Getting a lot closer to the finish line. Body working isn’t my area of expertise and it takes me quite awhile to get it dialed in.

To ME Jon, the hardest area to block of a 67 to 69 is the front hood. Of course, a 400 hood is even worse. I just never have been able to get one dead on perfect as most times you're dealing with a beat up twisted used hood to start off with. I get them to a point I just get burned out trying, and just seal it and paint it. Won a few car shows that way, but to me, I am not really happy with the hood. Another thing I do, as you did on the front fender, I put one strip of masking tape on the center fold line on the opposite side of the side I am blocking all the way from the 1/4 to the front fender well to sand in a overly sharp, razor sharp line all the way down the car, then after everything is finished blocked, I pull all the tape and just dull that over sharp center line with 320 to match the correct factory look of that line. Always works perfectly for me. So many guys have that lined to rolled over way to much because the aliment of the fender & door do not match the 1/4, so they just round that line over to hide some of the problem.----- and we can spot it from a mile away as it looks like hell ! that is if you really know what these F bodies are supposed to look like. Yes I know, we are both very picky ! as we know that we like and go out of our way to get the car that way. My opinion, you SHOULD show ALL the sanding on each & every panel as that is what really gives the cars it's over all sex appeal as much as the paint job.. P/S yeah,---- I like that high build primer to as it lets you know when to stop sanding . I will ask about it next time at the auto paint supply store. 😀 I have been using Dupont Vari prime for years, but it's getting veeeeeeeeeeeery pricey.
I really like the lines of these car and they should be clean and straight. It can be as simple as a few Bucks of masking tape so why not. I will be using this primer from now on. And it’s under $300 fir the gallon. Still a little spendy but you get what you pay for I feel with this one.

Super clear explanations again Jon. Especially appreciate the low spots explanation. I gotta ask, are you keeping track of your free, er.. I mean labor time? Sanding looks to be a major part, so just curious if that is correct.
Yes I have a large amount of time sanding and working panels. This part is very time consuming. Just block sanding 25 hours and then body work 15 hours of filling and hammering dents. This part really makes or breaks the finished paint job.
I like to use a brick for my block!! 😂

After the shot the grey primer could you have used guide coat , and blocked it out then to find your low spots and then 1 final prime and spray ?
Potentially, I had a feeling my body work wasn’t ready yet and would need more filler work. It was wishful thinking on my part. I did get it all fixed up and primed again and doing the block sanding this time looks like it will make it.
I wonder if some of those low spots you are finding on the fender are there from the factory.
Good point Very well could be. These where mass produced not perfect. It’s a great example on how to make it look good.
I've never had a vinyl top car. Do you spray the the car color under the top, or does matter because it doesn't show anyway?

Vinyl top cars from my experience the roof metal needs painted. My friend Brian in Arizona i helped him replace the roof skin on his bird, it was completely rusted away because it was left in only primmer under the top and it destroyed the metal. Now the body work doesn’t have to be Perfect. Fill the dents but minor imperfections and sand marks don’t matter as much. But I plan to put one coat of color and two clear on the roof panel but it won’t loom as nice.

Are you going to spray the color on the car in your garage and if so do you have to use special exhaust fans Thanks
The plans are to paint in the garage,
First off a good and correct for the type of paint respirator is a must. Other then that I just leave the door wide open and set the paint gun as low as possible to keep overspray down so as not to fog the garage. I have created “paint booths” in the past with plastic, filters and fans but I seem to have had more issues with debris in the paint

I have issues with my Durablocks being able stay sticky. I clean them with laquer thinner but it doesn't last. Suggestions?
I have not had that issue yet. I have the opposite issue the paper sticks to good and separating when I change it out. So I find myself dusting the face a little to help reduce the adhesive from sticking. I use the sungold brand rolls.

Wow that thins is getting close. Great explanation as always. Quick question though, would another coat of high build help to prevent putting extra filler on it?
The answer is yes, i have been fighting an issue with the primer shrinking and showing blemishes two - three years later so I try not to use primer to “fill” things. I also switched to a polyester primer instead of urethane so hopefully it helps with that issue as well .
