The med is miserable in the summer. Its hot and very little wind ( just like long island sound!!!!!) . I would highly recommend going to england and scotland and the Baltic. The time to be in the med is in the winter. Cooler and windy.
Hi Tim! 27:47 I laughed when you said your channel sucks. You're a humble and genuine guy. I like and respect that you do your thing and not clickbait. You don't compromise safety on the boats you run. Lots of respect to you and keep the videos coming!
Tim be safe and enjoy - if we get confused by your video content, we'll just watch it again until we get the ducks in a row. Win Win as they say (your view count goes up! haha) Thanks for taking the time to make! R
Tim sounds like an adventure. You are learning with everything that happens, as to how it goes from here I am 70 and have been living by that's good enough since I retired.
This video brings back memories of my Navy days. Fun times but sometimes it gets on your nerves. Always interesting, informative and entertaining 😂 Captain Tim CUOTO
👍🏼 I dare say that is common for spending time on the water as opposed to the much more common "being on the water" (I'm not sure that reads right / makes sense but...). Then again, I think it's true of other pursuits once you get into the serious hobby or prosumer stage.
@@DougGoble I never served but got a "fun, but not always"/"fun, but work" vibe from what you posted and agreed with your "interesting, informative and entertaining". I was agreeing with you; I apologize if I came across as diminishing working on the water or your service at all as that's the opposite of what I was trying to convey.
@ no apologies needed. I just wasn’t sure at what you meant. Appreciate you clarifying and your time. I will tell you a story about some of the guys didn’t even know how to swim and they joined the Navy! 😆
Hi Tim. I , for one, like your videography style. You don’t let perfect get in the way of the output. We all tend to forget that you are first a captain, then a videographer. CUOTO
Hi Tim. I too struggle with my electrical and electronic stuff. I bought the Predictwind but failed to get it working. Getting my old AGMs out and the engine mounts changed took so long for the yard to get done I never got the boat in this year. Not one day on the water! I love that you are going sailing for a year! I'm about to turn 70 and got the boat and the time but starting to feel the years. I would get a pole for your jib to prevent the flogging.
Thank you very much for watching Doc. I do have a whisker pole, but didn't use it on this trip. Are you an MD? If so, can you please shoot me an email at timbatsea@gmail.com. I need help putting together a med kit for the crossing and year abroad. CUOTO
I used to sail a heavy displacement boat and the water pump had problems surfing down waves in rough weather and the temps would increase....have a safe trip 👍
Glad to see you’re comfortable in T shirts. It could be and probably will be colder soon in November. Fair winds my friend, you’re a fine sailor. Intrepid I’d say!
Enjoy your trip south to warmer weather. Just curious, I'm a powerboater, your AP is very busy for open ocean travel. All of that back-and-forth motion is just wearing out your steering components. Raising the Sea State adjustment will deaden that with no change to the boat attitude. Cheers!
Thank you for watching John. It took awhile to get the AP dialed in, but it's been great for the past 10k miles. I have a spare linear drive but hope to not have to use it anytime soon. CUOTO
I agree - I dialed mine down but I prefer hand steering - it helps prevent sail flogging too as you can react quicker. Fortunately my yacht is very directionally stable and often comes back on course without much wheel input. The other reason I like hand steering is - I get bored just sitting doing nothing! Not a racer but 4 hours on the same tack ... I love upwind sailing! Wind astern .. well I prefer to put in gybes for fun and it makes me have to do more navigation work ;)

Wouldn’t it be great if they could dig a canal or something just inside the coast line so little boats could get from New England all the way to South Florida and hardly ever have to go out into the ocean in November? I think it would be a much nicer ride!
Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel. We did that exactly (well from Norfolk anyway) two years ago in the ICW. Got a bunch of videos of the trip if you'd like to see them It was a fun trip but mostly motoring. I usually prefer going offshore. It just was less fun this time. CUOTO

I have only used local NOAA broadcast. My cruising has primarily been US coastal cruising. Watching the bloggers with extensive blue water experience...they seem to use three weather models. Predict Wind, I believe a model from Great Britain, and a private router in the US. All said not one is 100%, but, integration of the three was the option. If you plan an Atlantic crossing, strongly suggest you query, Zatara, Winn's, Delos, Nohoa, for their opinions. Most meteorologist will tell you, three days is the max for any certainty. After that, any element is an educated guess. You've seen your polars. Trying to obtain is like trying to obtain the avg reported factory gas mileage for a car. I have over 6 years in the Eastern Med, you can not go wrong with Turkey and the Greek Islands in the Aegean. While it does get warm in the summer, ±40C if anchored, it isn't sailing in the Red Sea in the summer. Plenty of wind all year round specially the summer time from the Meltami (40+kts northerly). So the worst part of the breaking waves reef incident is it came out that they do not have insurance. He said it was too expensive and they opted to leave mexico without insurance. Between that and stopping to film it was very disappointing for sure. Im not sure they would have gotten off the reef if they had not filmed and went right into action, but i agree they should have tried. They did get the boat off and are on their way to a bigger island to get repairs done. The other really odd thing is that it was a total clickbait title because it also came out that this happened 6 months ago so they are putting out videos way behind real time which is not an issue but they already knew the outcome so saying they lost their boat was a BS claim in my opinion. People tell my wife and I that we should do a youtube channel and i agree the only big ones are because of T&A, so i jokingly say to people if we did one we would cal it Fat and Fifty!!!! I appreciate your channel as its real and no BS its just you guys and your boat with what ever happens to be going on at the moment. We too dream of the south pacific and europe but we will have to see how far we get. Insurance is a big problem, it is expensive and getting more limited on scope of travel. have you looked into insurance for europe or the south pacific?
