No... Many people have asked why you have stopped posting. You're my favorite channel. I don't really care about all the other channels. You and Admiral Z are true and honest. Thanks for sharing. See you next time.
I hate to say it, but, there was a problem with a few of the AMEL leaders (BILL**2). I just wanted to lay low for a while. I'll be getting back to the boat next week in Trinidad to get Aquarius ready for the season in the Caribbean. Thanks for the nice comment!
Fantastic update of the insurance process. I had no idea that you had to fund all the upfront costs, like mast stepping etc. If you didn't have available money the whole process would be delayed significantly. Wow. All I can say is I'm still staggered you achieved so much in such a short time to get your yacht back up and running. The whole process, working 10 hours a day none stop for week after week must have been mentally and physically exhausting, no wonder you pair have taken time to chill and enjoy different travels. Whatever you did in your career / personal life prior to sailing full time , it clearly paid dividends in having a great skills base during this project, well done 👏
Thanks for the informative video Ken. I have been wondering what in the Heck has happened to Aquarius as I've not seen you on You Tube for what seems like ages. Looking forward to seeing you two back on the Big Blue. You should go onto Blue Water Cruising with Keith Whittaker from SV Zatara and explain to the up and coming new cruisers on Boat insurance. Hope to see you on the water sooner than later cheers
Great to see you guys managed to get a good outcome. It's especially gratifying to see you're keeping Aquarius and didn't just take the money and run to buy a catamaran 😎
Great advice from Captain Ken!! It was nice to get an update on Aquarius and how the insurance all played out and glad to see you guys coming back with more adventures to come! Stay safe out there and have a Happy Thanksgiving!!
Ken, Nice to hear from you again. I am happy to see that all went well with the insurance company. I understand Gal was the broker but can you tell us who was the actual insurance company? Thanks in advance, Richard
Professional amateur, lazy, armchair Captain here. I appreciate this presentation. Fair Isles has done a similar one recently 😊. Fair Winds etc.☝️❤️✌️🌍🙏.
So many times I hear people say , " I have insurance that covers me". They forget deductibles and all of the other associated costs to a loss. Have good insurance. In addition to having good insurance it is also best to avoid conditions that could cause a claim. Insurance is to cover losses you can not afford to pay.
We have already finished with the insurance claim. Completed, and we are happy with our insurance company, our Broker Gal, and the settlement.. Cheers.
Very informative video.nice to see you back.kinda curious as to what will become of the donor boat back in Trinidad. Nooooo,I'm not interested in buying it lol.
For insurance purposes, do you get a discount if you have extensive security and monitoring service? Thanks for your video. Hurry and get back on the water. We miss you both!
There are so many things that will change insurance rates. Experience, location, size of the yacht, cost of the yacht, how the yacht is fitted.... So, what I pay would not be a good place to start.... You really need to talk to a broker. All the best Ken
We have been pretty busy, but will be back in Trinidad next week to work on the boat. Then we will spend Christmas off the boat this year.... Then Sailing the Caribbean....... Can't wait!
Because, at the time they paid $65K, I had already paid out $85K. But after completing the work, the insurance company paid the rest of the settlement. Which covered everything that the insurance company owed to us regarding Aquarius' dismasting. I was very happy with just about everyone involved, The broker, the Insurance company, and the Surveyor!
@@SailingAquarius Thanks. I thought they screwed you over like they usually do with auto accidents when it comes to replacing your vehicle. They never make you whole.
The insurance company paid what I thought they should have paid... in the end. I took about a month longer to get the settlement than others thought it should take.... But, I was happy.
@@SailingAquarius I'm glad that they came through. I hope that this never happens to me but if it does than I guess I'm going to have to talk to the insurance company about what my payout might look like but they never seem to know the answer and when I've dwelt with this with my vehicles, it seems as though they pay something like 80% after paying the deductible. In other words, they squeeze you.
Why do people even bother with boat insurance? Can't you just get Liability and ditch the Comprehensive, Collision, Uninsured , Underinsured, and Personal Injury Protection? I only get what is required by law on my car and if there is an accident, I expect to pay for the damage done to my car. Why not drive or sail what you can afford to replace yourself?
Yes, there are many owners of boats that do just this. They get 3rd party liability, and this coverage is relatively inexpensive. But, we opted for the normal coverage, and will continue to do so. Thanks
I have comprehensive insurance for my 40 ft boat I keep in a marina in the Chesapeake Bay. We were planning a sail to Bermuda but my insurance would not provide any coverage beyond 75 miles offshore. I looked for liability only coverage for a cruise more than 75 miles but I’ve been unable to find any company willing to provide it.
If you want to cruise, Call Gal for insurance :). But, if the insurance company is not offering you insurance because you have never done a crossing, then maybe you will need to get some time with another captain.
IMHO the bureaucratic quagmire that you just described in this vid totally negates the “freedom, and care free lifestyle” associated with sailing. Add to that the fact that most of the sailing post on youtube involve a constant battle of repairing, and replacing parts, fighting rust etc…….what a damn nightmare and money pit. NO THANKS !!!
To each their own. Get a trailer, but you will find there will also be expenses, and governmental limitations. Buy a house, and see what the government tells you what you can do, and what you can't do to it, and you will have to pay 1% to 2% per year in rent to the government for the right to own a home in the USA. Believe it or not, there are less limitations on a boat, but there would be no convincing you... Cheers.
I think at one point, I will have a trailer in the USA. It's a great way to travel.... I could imagine taking the trailer up to a ski resorts for 3 months, and board everyday I could get myself out of bed. Armed with a season pass..... I think that would be AWSOME!
@@SailingAquarius a quick check of UA-cam clearly demonstrates that the vast majority of these people who mistakenly opted for a life OFN care free living on the water quickly realized how WRONG they were. Much like the “van lifers” who realized that driving aimlessly around was NOT Nirvana, so too go the sailors. Your ridiculously convoluted insurance nightmare is PART of the problem, BON VOYAGE Popeye !!!

I miss Zivile and her experiences through this unfortunate experience. Am glad you are back and okay. Snowy and cold here in Juneau, AK.
We may be planning to take a cruise up that way in July 2025. Ken's mom has the Alaska cruise on her bucket list.... So, Alaska here we come.
Very valuable advices. I am sure this will be good guide for many sailors before proceeding for an insurance for their boats. Thanks a lot.❤

Nice to see your vlog again❤, interesting🎉
Glad you liked it!
Ken, what did you do with the other Amel that you bought in Trinidad? Also, thanks for this info on insurance.
Good to see an upload again.
Glad to be back!
Very informative video.nice to see you back.kinda curious as to what will become of the donor boat back in Trinidad. Nooooo,I'm not interested in buying it lol.
The boat has a new owner, and being repaired.
Great information. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you found it useful!
What happened to the boat you bought for the masts? Did you strip it? Are you still paying for storage?
sold
Great video. Thank you! Out of curiosity, what happened to the boat in Trinidad?
Sold, and the new owner is fixing it up. Should be a beautiful boat when complete.
Thanks very much that was great
Very Happy that you enjoyed it!

We will be back on the water soon! I have not heard of any discounts offered for boats with a security monitoring service. Best to ask your broker.
Turn the lights on!
It was a dark video, and that's the way I wanted it. Best.
Great video.
Thanks Tim!
Got it... thanks :)
No problem 👍

Hi Teun!! Thanks!!
You spent 85k and the insurance company paid you 65k. Why the 20k difference? You spoke about that in the beginning of the video.

He probably overpaid hence the insurance company refused to reimburse. 23K just to get the masts removed 🤯

I live in the USA and cannot find an insurance company that will cover just liability.
@@rmbriggs52 Is it a requirement to have insurance for by the USCG or the state or marina you dock at?
