- I get so many questions about the basic wardrobe that I think it’s time we understood what is a basic wardrobe and if we really need one. Also inside this video, you'll find a wardrobe exercise that can be a great starting point towards expressing your true self without making lots of changes in your wardrobe.

I agree with you! That's what I dont like with most capsule wardrobe I see on youtube. I'm glad to finally found a channel that I really need. I like colorful wardrobe but minimized coz I'm a mom now and don't have time searching forever for what to wear.

All great points!One idea about the So called basic wardrobe is, avoiding spending cash over and over, on fast fashion trends.I like the idea of less and am actually building a simplistic wardrobe.However, my take on it, is choosing pieces that are simple, tho have a classic style, that will suit me now, and in the future, Pluss adding accessories that say more about my personality.Too much pattern, frills etc have never suited me, so simple is best for me, I don't like the whole spend spend spend, to keep up with trends.Enjoyed your video, I'm a new sub, from Australia, all the best, wonderful creative ideas!

Дашенька! разгребая гору вещей в своей последней зачистке гардероба, путем составления сразу капсул (а не так как многие рекомендуют эту вещь в одну кучку, эту в другую, эти базовые, эти парадно-выходные) я получила наглядное подтверждение Вашим словам т.к. (о Шок!) единственная и последняя вещь которую я не смогла куда то приткнуть была - белая рубашка! (купленная год назад под влиянием ютуба и так и пролежавшая с ценником и биркой в гардеробе). но! ведь профессионалы уверяют, что это самая универсальная вещь🤔 "пробежалась" по капсулам еще раз и везде вместо этой белой рубашки находиться что то, что смотриться более гармоничнее конкретно на мне. юбка- карандаш и водолазка тоже не прижились. т.к не комфортны и не подходят для фигуры перевернутый треугольник впринципе. поэтому да, я с Вами согласна, что "база" это не совсем то, что пропагандируеться в массы. и вообще "индивидуальность" рулит!)
Все верно. У каждой из нас свой тип фигуры, внешности, стиля жизни. И вообще предпочтения даже по цвету одежды, не говоря о функциональности и сфере, где мы часто что-то носим. Я например до родов имела идеальную фигуру песочные часы аля дюймовочка (правда с красивыми бедрами), и была вся бизнес леди. теперь многое изменилось, я мама в декрете. Ребёнок все запачкает, и сама пока бегаю с ним, крч ни каблуков, ни шик блеск платья, тем более футляр или карандаш. Но тем не менее я всё думаю о себе, будто я та беззоботная девочка и хочу снова накупить красивых шпилек, босоножки, лодочки, забывая, что мне сейчас наоборот нужны несколько приземленные и практичные вещи. И минимум, чтобы ещё это всё сочетать и при этом выглядеть красиво, элегантно. Сейчас идёт внутренняя борьба. 😂🤦🏻♀️
Basic wardrobe is a starting point for people who haven't figured out their styles. A "dream wardrobe" is much more vague and confusing for me. As a minimalist, basic and classic pieces are all I need because I don't want to spend so much time and energy thinking about "wardrobe" that often. It's just a tool for me, not a passion like it's for you.
Thank you for that refreshing point of view for a basic wardrobe. Sometimes I find this wardrobe definition confusing and not really relevant to me.
Yes! This need to have lots of basics is, IMHO, one of the many misunderstandings about minimalism.
Another amazing video from you that is so clearly explained and well thought out. I like the ideas of essentials since certain items are a necessity for me such as good ankle boots, a great pair of dress pants etc. On to figuring out outfits rather than stand alone pieces.......
Is it okay to have collectors pieces? I have a few pieces that I collect because I love them but I don’t wear them very often-if at all.

Hey Daria, I've been following you for more than a year now. But I didn't exactly need a new wardrobe until now because I'll be starting a new job next month. I actually rewatched a lot of your older videos and now I feel fully equipped to pick some new pieces to incorporate with my existing ones. I do struggle a little with the choices because I live in India and sustainable fashion is still quite expensive here. And the secondhand clothing market is still growing. But nevertheless your basic guidelines have made my shopping process so much more easier. Thank you so much! I will hopefully take up your full course in the near future. Keep up the good work. Your ideas are so refreshing and I totally agree with you. I used to think there was something wrong with me when I thought basics were so boring and I would rather have the sequin sweater than the grey turtleneck. Now I know I can still build several outfits around a sequin sweater!
I loved this video! I am trying to focus more on what I wear and how clothing makes me feel. I'm all about comfort, but I want the style too! I never thought of looking at your wardrobe as outfits instead of individual pieces, but that makes everything so much simpler!

И получите 44 аутфита. Нужна эклектика, а не скучная классика бла бла бла, научу за куеву тучу бабла. Из того, что у вас есть. Сорри, но что у меня есть я уже умею между собой сочетать. Но хочу свежести, побольше индвидуальности и именно для этого мне нужна информация. И все. Все гениальное просто. Ракмет вам за вашу работу и сегодня я услышала именно то, что хотела. Почему бейзик должен быть "скучным" и почему обязательно трендовые вещи должны быть крейзи и это типа два разных берега. Вы наконец развеяли этот миф. И между прочим, некоторые помимо этих маст хав 30, 50, пишут и для каждого сезона, мать! Для каждого сезона 200 вещей? Это ещё помимо аксессуаров и множество видов верхней одежды. 😂🤦🏻♀️

Дарья, огромное спасибо за этот ролик! Только сейчас до меня дошло, что я не хочу носить чёрное платье, которое, якобы считалось базовой вещью. Я не чувствую себя в нём комфортно, как и во многих вещах чёрного цвета (как бы ни был он универсален). Вы сказали важные слова, что все люди разные! И мы имеем право самовыражаться в том образе, в котором нам комфортно.

I'm pretty happy with it yes, I guess it's the parisian in me that tends to gravitate towards more classic pieces. Sometimes I do wish I had a statement bag or shoe to elevate everything
If your style is classic your statement pieces might be a perfect fitted blazer, high quality silk blouse, ideal pair or tailored trousers or some gorgeous camel cashmere coat. And yes, of course, the accessories can also be your statements.

Watching this seven years later and it is still so true. I also consider basics as foundation items for the wardrobe, not the goal of my wardrobe. This is the reason why so many people dress the same, they just follow recipes that do not reflect their true personality. Basics are the building blocks, not the finished building.

I would like to you to go into someone's closet and demo your approach. I have work clothes and everyday clothes. The work clothes are boring but appropriate. The everyday clothes are relaxed, worn all the time but not really flattering. Work is becoming more important but I really don't feel comfortable in those. But budget is significant, I need a plan. And I need plus size age appropriate (50+). I am broad shouldered and I used to be a pear but now am now more apple shaped, but I am tall. A lot of clothes just look like sacks or are too revealing.I like classics but they don't like me... what to do?

I loooooooove your opinion on the subject. I found myself in a situation when all of my pieces are „basics”. I always find it easy to make outfits but still, I NEVER FEEL SPECIAL and beautiful in them!
I love your idea Daria, I do think the a basic wardrobe can't express our personality, I think there's so many 'basic wardrobe' on the internet is because people need a formula to copy and basic ones are easy to find... but personally, I LOVE original, colorful pieces, they make life more tasty!

I agree...personal style and how clothes make you feel when you put them on...love color but my 68 ad i enjoy playing with my capsule or personal wardrobe...I'm retired so I enjoy colorful, matched leisure clothes not always knit or exercise wear..easy yoga is my favorite exercise..stretching and twisting, etc. I do love my clothes and assessories. Keep up your videos!!!

I really needed this, honestly. I've been told all my life to get a so called basic wardrobe, but it never felt right and whenever i wore my non basic pieces i felt bad about myself. it opened my eyes and that's why i like you and especially this video. It's better to have less pieces that I enjoy 100%instead of a basic wardrobe that makes me uncomfortable:)
I really like the idea of building a basic wardrobe to an everyday look, but i also believe in being personal.
At least my goal is to have really basics first (white tshirt, blue jeans etc) and then go ahead and buy the personal things i like, to wear them combinated everyday
Indeed, i personally, have the " essentials" - i buy and wear what i fancy that makes me feel good and express my personal style. I have only few clothes.

So, this seems to be an older video. In the more recent ones, you do talk about a basic wardrobe. Nowadays, I see a trend among fashion vloggers in the direction of paring down their wardrobes drastically. My question is what do you do after you achieve your dream wardrobe? Do you never buy anything again?

Oh and yes, eventually you buy only what's needed. After 5 years of using this system I purchase 1-2 items every 3-4 months now. I don't need more than that and I am very happy about it.
This is an important video that I’ve come back to several times, over the past year. You were one of the first people I encountered on UA-cam to express this belief so firmly and cogently (versus throwaway videos by people with colorless wardrobes trying to talk to other minimalists about maaaaybe adding a single splash of some pastel or other inconspicuous color for the spring season). Hi Daria, i have just started watching your videos . Loved your concept about basics and being yourself. I would like to change my tomboy wardrobe to a more classic lady like wardrobe . From scratch if i need to start building my wardrobe , also being an India i am little confused about what western wear would look good on me as I have all my life been wearing JEANS AND TEES AND SHIRTS. can you suggest anything for a complete beginner
Don't worry, we wear jeans and tees and hoodies here all the time too. Daria's capsule wardrobe are generally more dressed up and fancy as those of the average European.

Exactly what I need to hear, I decluttered my wardrobe, but realise that everything I truly love are mainly statement colorful outfits, which are the opposite of every minimalist wardrobe.

Love this advice! I lost 30 pounds a couples of years ago and have slowly been building a new wardrobe. I ended up with a small collection of boring black, white and neutral basic outfits. My husband and boys keep telling me to stop buying black and white. 😂

Great video Daria! I totally agree with you. I'm so sick of seeing people wear black clothes all the time when there are so many wonderful colours to choose from! I can't understand how someone's favourite colour can be black! And if I'm not wrong, black is not a colour , it's the absence of colour!
