It's really hard to find tear rulers in stores now. I came across a youtube video recently showing how to make one so figured I'd give it a try. I used a metal file to make the little indents. My first attempt wasn't so great because I made them too large and ended up with an edge that looked more like triangles. I made them smaller on the other side of the ruler and now I have a workable tear ruler . It's such a good idea and so easy to do.
I know! I’ve looked and looked for them and I’m pretty good at just tearing by hand, but this really does make it a bit less random. Thanks for reporting on your experience. I thought about trying to dent metal somehow, but this really seemed easy. The metal ruler may make a nicer cut though.

Hi, Kathleen. It’s great to see you after your busy spell! I prefer the smaller torn look, too. Some of the rulers spoil the edge. I’ve seen the rulers created with an edge a couple of times before. For the life of me, I can’t remember by whom or what they used. I’ll have to dig deep in the memory bank! 😘🤞😀💞
I might try to make one this way. I made one using my soldering iron to melt little divots in the ruler and it’s OK. I think my favorite one is I used my drill press. I just turned it on with a small drillbit running in it and just held the ruler up and just bounced it along the drill bit. I’m sure it was totally unsafe but that’s my favorite one, it also could be the material the ruler was made out of, my favorite one is one of those triangular rulers I think engineers maybe use them.
I thought about my wood burning tool, Lyn, but this seemed a bit easier and I think it worked great. I have to laugh at the drill press!! I think if OSHA ever tries to regulate artists we are going to be in trouble! I agree that a thicker material than these flexible rulers would probably be a better choice.
A steampunk sunflower journal is a great idea! I like the way you made your ruler into a tear edge ruler. My husband has a drumel tool and I think that could work too. Thank you for the great idea!!!

I have a set of the metal ones like yours. I also have a WRMKs one and I'm not really happy with either. I just use my regular metal ruler with no edge design. Maybe I'll try one your way. You can't go wrong with 1.25 for 3. Hugs * L
Welcome Pennie! I’m so glad you found me. Kate is just in that young mom stage and is so busy with work and family that UA-cam got a bit demanding, haha. She is well and happy, just not doing much crafting in this stage of her life.

I've used my dremel or wood carving iron on the cheap dollar store rulers to make my own tearing rulers, they came out pretty good. TFS🌹
