Thank you Sue. While refilling at the KOA I met a woman whose husband was running in the race! Fun small world. I’m glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for watching.
Thank you for posting. Been waiting for since mid May.Leah is such a trooper! You are a lucky man to have that enthusiastic support. Did not remember you having problems with hydration last year. I do remember last year you came across a Gila Monster. Been hiking in Arizona regularly for the past 17 years, only seen one on the trail.
I did have some hydration issues last year, but I also developed bad blisters last year. This race was a good reminder to be more careful and honest about how much water is needed for long segments.
Awesome run Wes! This is Jonny from Texas in the Bandera shirt. Good to meet you and share some miles with ya. See you on another one of these crazy adventures.
Thanks for watching Jonny! It was great seeing you around the course, we were near each other so often! I’ll be back at Bandera in January for another WSER qualifier.
Congratulations Wes! Impressive performance for your SECOND finish of this beast of a race. Nice work with your videos as well. Names and bibs of the other runners is a great touch.
Thank you I’m happy you enjoyed this video too! One of the things I love about this love distance is the camaraderie that develops between runners over multiple days. I feel very close to these people.
Another fantastic documentary Wes. You always capture the true essence of the race and surroundings. The soundtracks you choose seem to grab me and bring me into the experience along with you. As far as running documentary/creators go, you are on another level. Keep up the amazing work. 👏
Wow Wes another amazing film. You're determination is crazy. I can not believe to imagine the battle with your mind and body to complete something as crazy as that. I will never moan again when I do 10k when it is too warm!!🤣
Great work Wes. Also made me choke up when you said you want it to be over when you start but it’s also sad when it’s over. I know what you mean. Such a yin-yang. I just met two ladies who did this race and it really does take an incredible person to do it.
Grande Wes, você é um monstro das ultramaratonas! Parabéns . Adoro os seus vídeos, ficamos emocionados. Parabéns mais uma vez. Um grande abraço aqui de Indaial- Santa Catarina - BRASIL. 🤜🤛

I love the video, especially because I live in Prescott. I’ve done a similar route from Prescott to Flagstaff a couple to times…I chose to use my car! 🙂 Quite an achievement! Congratulations.
Amazing accomplishment!! I’m so impressed by the amount of mental and physical toughness and grit you showed to get this done! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Wow, great work on getting that second finish! It was great seeing you, although briefly at Tahoe. Drew and I will be rooting for you at Bigfoot. It’s going to be incredible!
The bad air/snot lung thing killed me at Tahoe. I learned by the Very End how to cope better but I wish I’d known it sooner. You and Drew killed it! Congrats!
@@wplate dude, the dust/pollen/elevation was a killer. Has to be the reason for the uncharacteristically low finisher rate. Everyone was just hacking nonstop. Won’t be a problem at Bigfoot. That course is perfect for you!
It can be frustrating when it gets really difficult. Why is this so hard?! I forget it is Supposed to be hard. I hope the perseverance I learn from the trail shows up in my regular life.
Incredible run and great shots. It is very inspiring to see your video and share this experience with you. Congratulations on this achievement 🏆 Thank you Wes 👏
I love your videos West. Your attitude during all of these runs is always so positive. What percentage of a 200+ miler would you say you run versus walk/hike?
I met a wise runner who told me the Henry Ford quote “Whether you think you can, or you think you can't - you're right." A sure-fire path to having a bad attitude is to have or encourage a bad attitude. I'm not always daisies and sunshine, but I do try to keep the nose up. Your percentage question is impossible to answer, I have no idea how much I hike vs run. It is all movement and I move between paces constantly. You're welcome to explore my mile splits for this race at www.strava.com/activities/7103691351 🙌🏼
I preface my comment by saying that anyone who finishes an ultramarathon is a certified badass, let alone someone who racks them up, so great job! I’m just curious how much of these 200+ mile marathons are actually spent running? I’ve watched several now and many don’t seem to be running, but mostly walking. That could just be the nature of filming is easier during walking stretches like uphill, or the weather conditions, but I’m still curious.
It is hard to say. For over 99 hours I was on the course, and including all stops and sleep my average pace was 23:35. Most of the time when moving I was under 20:00 pace, but there was some tough climbing and sleep walking in there too. Your best bet is to look at my Strava activity and there you can see times for each mile split. www.strava.com/activities/7103691351/overview
Absolutely amazing!! I love living vicariously through you! Was worried when you said you ran out of water, I’ve been there and it’s not fun. Glad it went well! Are you filming all your 200’s this year?
Thank you Olivia! Running out of water before Elden had be worried, but once I knew I had a plan to stop at that KOA, I stopped rationing and let at it knowing I’d refill soon. I would love to see a KOA-sponsored water drop there at the base of Elden. 😆 I am hoping to make a video of all the 200s. I shot stuff for Tahoe, so we’ll see!
The static overlay map that you see coming into aid stations? The course shape was made using some custom software my dad wrote, but you could achieve something similar using www.gpsvisualizer.com/ to create an SVG. After I had the shape, I used Photoshop to add the current location dot and to stylize the “completed” position of the course. Made PNGs from Photoshop that I added to my timeline in Final Cut Pro.
Once again I am back to watch the master storyteller Wes. This refuels my fire for spring and the summer. I am so grateful for these videos.
🙌🏼
Amazing Wes! Love the journey you took us on. I can't imagine having the fortitude to both run and document the race.
Thank you Kevin! It is always a challenge to remember to use the camera. :)

We all should appreciate the volunteers. It wouldn’t happen without them! ❤️ thanks for watching!
Way to hammer. 👊🏼 now you’ve got Tahoe down too, so only two left. Get it, brother!
