I can’t believe it’s been 8 years already! Time flies when you’re having fun 😄 Watch next 🍵 How to actually get rid of stuff you don’t need anymore: ua-cam.com/video/KK41B6aPeUs/v-deo.html
life is so much better since I found minimalism. you have helped me so much vera. I love being a patreon and getting all the extras thankyou 4 everything ❤ x
Fairyland Cottage is a minimalist that used her grandmother's crystal glasses, silverware and china. Minimalism is a way not a style and people confuse those I think.
I have more clothes than the most minimalist have, I cook I bake I like make up but I use all those things I don't care if I am minimalist I love practicality of minimalism and that is important to me Also ethicality
Me and my husband had to start minimalism. There was one time he was like I DONT HAVE SHIRTS TO WEAR! I counted all his shirts that night and counted 74 shirts and 8 pants. I told him afterwards, he was very disappointed with himself. We started to sort out his clothes, sold some and then donated most. Now he has 15 shirts and is very happy with it. He gets to wear all of them in 2 weeks (just in time for laundry) and we have so much closet space! IT is the way to go
Guess it gave u a laff after u checkd what he had in all and told him u got plenty lol. i am even aware i got to much since i try to wear and tear so to speak so as shirts fall apart or just dont fit right to me for any reason i try loose weight or if really dont like i have donated for space or funds any. certain tops wish still had but was woren at times so it served it time while i wore or had it any. now i down to 2 pants and some shirts i can wear anytime.
My husband is the same. Because he hates ironing, he will go and buy more shirts so he doesn't have to do it! I am quite new to minimalism myself, and am certainly not going to coerce him into joining in, but it will be great when he finally 'gets it;!
Dear Vera, you help me so much in the last six months. I decluttered my clothes and my books. What I didn’t expected, are women in my church who come to me to say how happy they and their daughter are for the good clothes they received. My heart feels truly happy!
Hi! My minimalism journey began as a way to be able to keep my house cleaner. I also grew to intensely dislike the idea that middle class, like me, were the biggest consumers. It made me feel cheap and trashy. I love my house now that the rooms are clear of clutter and my closets are intentionally packed. Now, I can clean a few minutes every day and be satisfied. My garage is the only room left and I’m making progress there, too.
I started with the why of not leaving my adult children with the stress of figuring out to do with my lifetime of stuff... And then as I went, I started enjoying the freedom and intentionality so much that that is now equally part of my why. Great video!
I will start by saying...I’m NOT a minimalist! But I have learned so much from your channel ! You have helped me to organize my belongings and declutter my home of so much! I look forward to your wisdom and advice on how to view my possessions. Thank you so much! You are valuable not only to minimalists but to the rest of us also!
I was never a person that had a lot of extra clutter around but since I became a minimalist I’m amazed at how much I have sold, gave to someone else or donated, especially clothes that didn’t fit, it seriously was 3/4 of my wardrobe, now I have stuff that I’m happy wearing every day and less than 40 articles of clothing and I feel like I have more outfits than before. I don’t go mindlessly shopping anymore because I’m bored. I have saved money and precious time. Now I spend my time doing things that bring me joy and I have a little extra money to take an online course, purchase books or just get takeout. It’s wonderful and I’m helping the environment. 🤗 I love this lifestyle.
For me minimalism meant decluttering and donating all my excess home decor and holiday decor (I used to decorate for every holiday). Now I keep my decor simple year round and have lots of houseplants. It might not be everyone’s definition of minimalism but it feels right for me. My home feels bright, airy and happy❤️🪴
This is how I think too! My daughter and so many young You Tubers fill their houses with SO MUCH decor, (all from the same Hobby Lobby type stores) and so much for every season and holiday. I'm SO glad I'm not in that trap!
I have started my journey just about 10 months ago. It was hard to make my parents understand I'm letting go of all kinds of items that fall in different qualities, especially clothes and some even purchased recently. I wear loose fitting all black clothing now and I'm glowing because I'm so happy in what I wear and use and feel so free and relieved after letting go of everything else that I just didn't resonate with. Thank you for being a part of my small slow journey towards being a minimalist 🌱
Regarding things weighing us down - In my very minimalist apartment I had ordered a beautiful handmade piece of furniture (maple) 13 years ago when I did a complete renovation. It was 300 cm wide and 48 cm tall - It was a beautiful piece and I must have had a moment of madness when I bought it for close to 5,000 chf. The idea was that it hid all of my papers, photo albums, CDs, DVDs and at the time stereo equipment. This winter I managed to empty it out, letting go of many things and reconfiguring them in a few other already built in drawers in the kitchen and coat closet. This huge beautiful piece of furniture was now empty, and just sitting in my otherwise minimalist living space. I thought I could not possibly part with it after the money I had spent and I tried to advertise it for a month for pennies (comparatively). No luck. So I started calling people I know and making them aware that I was offering this piece of furniture to anyone who would give it a good home! The first person I called who runs a big home renovation business, and who has warehouse like office space said he would take it. He sent 3 guys up here yesterday to take it away. A reminder that sometimes it is necessary to let go of things without expecting to get money for the item (paying it forward) and not make the same mistake in the future. I probably could have gotten something half way decent at Ikea for a 5th of the price. The moral of this story is that now that it is gone, I don't know how I managed to live with it for 13 years - as aesthetically pleasing as it was. I now have a big empty space with room to move and loads of sunlight. Most significant is how it was weighing me down energetically. I had gotten so used to it being there that I never imagined what it would be like to no longer have it. Now that it is gone I feel so incredibly light and free without it.
@@SimpleHappyZen - my apartment is very small and the older I get the less I want (also read the art of Swedish death cleaning! ;) - I'm just about furniture free at this point. Dining table, 4 Danish chairs, and a Danish chair in the corner of the room. It is foldable and weighs nothing. Everything extremely light which is the idea. I want light! After sleeping on a futon for most of my adult life, I recently switched to the floor on top of a washable cotton rug and a thin folded cotton duve (shoe free apartment!). I have radiant heat so the floor is toasty. Sleeping on the floor is obviously not for everyone, but it has cured my back pain, and now even the futon has become obsolete. This whole process has not been easy. Its taken me about 50 years to get to this point. Better late then never! :) Thank you for your wonderful videos!!
When I first following you, I was starting from the very beginning to simplify my life. Now, I am still in the journey but I am grateful for every baby step I have taken so far. So very thank you, Vera
I just realised how similar the attitudes towards minimalism and veganism can be, where the ‘true’ practitioners never think you are doing it right. Thanks again Vera.
Thanks to being more minimal, we are purchasing our dream home and moving into it at the end of this summer. We ignored the comments of our house being furnished with second hand items and making our space work for us for several years until we were ready and now we have our dream life ready to move into our dream home. Thanks for the advice, it reminded me why I started this lifestyle in the first place
Second hand doesn't have to mean junk. The luxurious leather couch set we bought 12 years ago was 1 year old and the owner had paid over $3,000 for the set, then sold it to us for $300!
You are one of the most motivating people I have ever listened about minimalism. I am on the way to minimalist life, and trying to do my best. Thank you for your inspiring video.
This is such a good video. I often use the tip about imagining I wake up and something is gone. I have spent the whole day pulling my kitchen apart to be painted, and boy it has shown me how much stuff I have. The kitchen now echoes! That sound is music to a minimalist's ears! I'm going to be putting back a lot less than I took out. I really recommend completely emptying a room then putting what you want to keep back. It makes a refreshing contrast to the usual process of removing things one at a time. It makes you really think about what you are keeping because you truly experience how each thing you decide to keep adds to your possessions and 'clutter'. Of course, it's especially rewarding if you are doing it with a purpose like painting. I can't wait for my new perfect walls and emptier room. Bliss.
@@SimpleHappyZen It takes a fair whack of motivation because it's not a job for the lazy, but once you see the room totally empty i.e., 100% minimalist, it inspires you to get rid of as much as possible. It's so worth the effort.
It's so good to pack up and let go excess items and have spare space in the pantry or cupboards. I've still a long way to go but am enjoying the minimalistic journey. Your videos have been so helpful, Vera!
This video is very inspiring! I am at the beginning of my minimalism journey, and now have a more clear picture that minimalism is about the mindset and philosophy but not only about decluttering items. Thank you for sincerity and useful tips Vera!
I was on my way of living a simpler life I guess, when I found your channel, but I found so much more. Self love, self acceptance, the invisible pressure we put on ourselves by things we own/buy. Since we look at them and think I should/want to/ have to ...be/read/wear/FIT this. While it is much simpler. I “choose”, with “consideration” to my “needs” and therefore it will bring me joy AND growth. And it comes naturally, I don’t have to do force it. So, things like that. Minimalism has so much to offer. Hope I remember the lessons I learn.
You have a charming way about your communication skill. I found you by accident today and enjoyed every minute. I'm in the process of downsizing and find it painful. I'm 82 and simply can no longer keep up with everything. A lot of it is about attitude. I wish you the greatest success. ❤️🙏🍀🙋
Hi Vera 🙋♀️ I must say...you are Simply Happy Zen Beautiful in this video!!! 🤩 8 years of living a life as a minimalist has a lot to do with how you look, how you very well maintain your place tidy and clean, the way you are able to express yourself in every video you make...all positive outcome. It is only my 1st year working on my minimalist journey with my hubby and you are certainly my best/most liked!! Loved, in fact!! Take care Vera. Stay happy!🙋♀️💞 Please continue to do what you do.
Aw thank you so much Minnie for writing this comments and sending me so much support and encouragement 💖🌺 I really appreciate it :) Sending you a big hug!
I don’t usually comment on UA-cam, but I felt moved to express appreciation for this video. I think it’s absolutely one of your best. In my opinion, world around us seems to be driven by materialism and the physical display of one’s means of life. So I really enjoyed how you applied minimalism to our every day life. I see how it applies to having focus and a purpose in life. And ultimately, we all need to achieve that. Physical things will not make us achieve our purpose. Thank you for your thoughts!
I like it when you mentioned about being a minimalist in your own way, and every minimalist styles or approaches are not the same. That's a good point, Vera. Well, almost every points that you stated here were excellent! Thank you for this video. :)
finally got my husband on board! 🥳 it took some time and buying our dream home to do it but he declutters just as much as me now and replaces things with more sustainable options. Yay! Ps. I really like your hairstyle! It suits you 😊.
Thank you SO much for talking about future purchases/bringing items into the home. It is important to dispose of things sustainably, but the impact you make by reducing consumption is far greater!! 💜
About getting rid of things mindfully...as organising guru The Flylady says, your home is not a landfill. Get rid of the stuff in the best way possible, but don't let the lack of a charity shop or recycling stop you from decluttering, because getting rid of clutter is the first step on a journey that will lead you to have a much smaller carbon footprint in the future. Once you've decluttered, you don't want to waste money or fill up your home with tacky stuff that doesn't mean anything.
I like your point about how things change in your life. When I was in college and then in the military I could put everything I owned in my car and move! There was a wonderful feeling of freedom. However, now I do like having furniture and other possessions! I have been downsizing from a peak of having a 5 bedroom house but that was my life at that time. Now moving to another phase of life, living with less. ☺️
I started my minimalist journey during the Christmas break. I had no idea what a positive impact it would have on my life and how much more efficient it would make my house/life and how much extra time it would give me. My 'why' was just making it easier to 'deep clean' but I got so much more from it. Thanks so much for motivating me!
With pandemic many of the charity shop in my area do not accept donations. I came to decision to toss it😟 Hanging on meant I would open the box and start to rethink my decisions. We have shared laundry area and I leave items that others may want, use or need. If it sits for few days I give up and toss. The money has been spent and I have stopped beating self up for poor decisions and use it to learn from my mistakes❤️
Great advice. People should just live their lives and let others theirs. I've been a minimalist for only eight months, just at the beginning of the journey. With everything I declutter I feel very "lighter". The journey is very positive for me. Thank you for all your videos. Stay safe 😘.
I love your videos so much. You showed me the way I wanted to go, but have never seen before. During the first lockdown one year ago, decluttering was just a freetime activity. But now, after dozens of trash bags donated or through away I feel so much better. I still do not understand how is that possible that I decluttered so much and eventually, I miss maybe one item which can be easily repurchased. And now I am incorporating the minimalism psychological aspects and it came naturally.
Knowing that you don't have to get rid of everything makes me more interested in minimalism. I am not a minimalist, but I have drawn a lot of inspiration from it!
Well said..Vera..everyone has their own journey in minimalism..it has been helpful to define our choices and enjoy them..also donating along the way has been very satisfying..thanks for the video..great tips as always 😊💖
I so needed to hear your words of wisdom today. I have been working hard to declutter (using your videos as inspiration) but yesterday I went back to my “old” self and went shopping just to make me feel emotionally better. My husband is unwell and is currently having scans etc at hospital - I must learn to comfort myself by not buying material things. This is my journey and I will find my way. 👊❤️
I just subscribed after binge-watching some of your videos the other night! ☺️ I am very new to minimalism (stumbled upon my first minimalism video just a couple weeks ago). I am so intrigued and inspired by this way of living, and I have already made a significant dent in my possessions, which got donated to our local hospice thrift store (who were most appreciative)! I was honestly expecting at least some negative comments from friends and family - but it's been quite the opposite: many in my life are also on board with the concept of minimalism, and are considering making their own changes in their own way (and at their own pace)! I am so looking forward to enjoying more of your videos, and appreciate the inspiration and advice you provide!
Thanks so much for sharing your story and for subscribing! It's amazing that you've already made such progress and you're inspiring people around you :) Have a lovely day
I moved away to a smaller house after years of decluttering. With the move lots of stuff and furniture is gone too. I am celebrating the overview. It is an ongoing process.
I always love your videos and I've been watching for a long time, but this one is truly amazing. There is such WISDOM in this one and it truly feels profound. Fantastic job, my dear. Keep it up!!!
even though i have been a minimalist for about 4 years, i still struggle with some of the things you have mentioned in this video. this had helped me so much and makes me feel very at peace for exactly what i have and i’ve learned that i will never be a “perfect” minimalist. i need to stop feeling guilt for buying something that i like, even though i don’t NEED to have it!!!
I'm a minimalist but one wouldn't say so when one sees my house. It's such a personal thing..... what really caught my attention is your comment on WHY one wants to hold on to something; what does it say about oneself............ I find an excuse like, there is enough room to keep it, it's not in my way....... but WHY am I hanging on to it!!! I really don't know. Security? Association with happy times? Anyway, I'll probably work it out one day. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
The why question can be important :) It has helped me to shift interests and parts of my identity in the past, it helped me to be open towards exploring new interests and letting go of interests that weren't exciting to me anymore.
I loved so much this video!! 2 year long minimalist here and I can say that minimalism brought me SO much knowledge and helped me a lot to make my life more simple and easy, besides that it helped me a looott as well with my anxiety, depression and being my true self!!!
Wonderful video to wake up to here in America....thank you for all your sharing and guidance....i am a 70 year old female full time RV ing for the last 4 years....though my possessions are greatly reduced I decided to reduce even more and have found 2 of the biggest benefits are sitting with a possible purchase for at least a day or 2 and the change in mind set as to what is important in my personal interactions....again than you
I have decluttered a lot over the last few months- it gives me such a feeling of peace when I get rid of unnecessary items in my house. I recently got rid of so many shoes that I haven't worn in years! Another positive aspect about decluttering is that it doesn't take so long to clean my house! I don't have to move around useless items to dust shelves / counters off :-)
Cannot love this enough 💓💓💓 so appreciate how positive healthy and how well presented this is and how focused it is on what really matters and is really important
Having to throw something away really makes you think about your consumption habits. I am by no means perfect and still have a ways to go but I wonder if the frequent mega declutters that have gained popularity are setting the best example. Like it's becoming a competition that encourages people to fill their spaces with more if that makes sense. Maybe that's why I'm partial to your channel. You're already well into the lower consumption, less decluttering needing to be done, enjoying life more stage. I've been moving at a turtle's pace decluttering because I've been working more on the consumption side of things. I do not want to waste or buy things I will regret.
I completely get what you said. And slow and steady wins the race, I think :) It's great that you're focusing on the consumption side of things, instead of just the mega declutters and subsequent hauls :)
Vera I think this is one of your BEST vlogs! To answer what has minimalism made room for in my life? Right now minimalism is allowing me to see what IS in my life! People, hobbies etc I want to invest in and some I can now see are simply cluttering my time. Amazing how decluttering helps clear your mind. Also I wonder if negative people are trying to play devils advocate. Maybe your response to adversity helps them process it all. Some people are wired that way.
I literally learnt about minimalism from you and I am continuing that path.. Often I have to listen that I have no respect for the items I have bought as I am discarding them. But I keep on telling myself that I am respectful to them, that’s why I am sending them to others where they will be of some use.
I have so much to say about how I live my life, realizations and challenges as a beginner minimalist. But one thing for sure sure stands out in my journey, that is, I'm starting to love the process. Everyday, I see to it that I'm happily simplifying my life. My girlfriend started to learn about minimalism and she's so excited about it. Now that's a bonus! Minimalism always reminds me that everything that I need to live a happy life is already in me. The most challenging part for me, at my current stage, is consistency. I guess "human nature" is the one who tempts me. 😁 Thanks you so much for sharing this!
We have been on our minimalist journey for almost 4 years. We spent a month traveling around Portugal in a campervan with our then 2 and a half years old daughter and realized that we really didn't need a lot of stuff. When we returned home we started to get rid of things that we obviously never used and it was slow going at first. 2 years ago we moved continents and sold, gave away or donated most of our possession. We now have a home that is half the size and it still feels big. It's an ongoing process, we want to have more time to do the things that we like instead of always cleaning, organising or looking for our stuff.
You were one of the most effective people who started me on this journey. Sometimes I feel like I am not minimalistic enough and sometimes someone says that and I feel really bad but I remember what you say and tell myself I am learning. 😀 So yes....thank you....a lot.
Thanks so much for including me on your journey and I'm so happy my videos have been helpful for you :) No need to feel bad, just keep doing what feels good for you :)
Hey there! I’ve been one of those people who haven’t been clicking on your videos as often (and other creators’ videos). I think its been because I’ve seen so much of the same. But I just wanted to say this one was great and drew me back! Your title really caught my eye and I loved that you said you can be a minimalist at any stage.
Thank you so much Emily and I'm happy you're back! :) I've been trying extra hard to provide new information in all my new videos that I publish :) Have a happy Wednesday!
I would love to have space to create. Create jewelry or crocheting or paintings, but I don't pursue these interests because I feel guilty for wasting time when there is so much clutter and disorder around me. I need to get rid of most of my paints because they've gone bad and dried out now. I do feel that once I have removed the things that don't mean as much to me, I will have time to pursue the things I love to do and to develop those talents by learning more about them and perfecting my skills.
Another excellent video full of new information. I like the points that what you learn about yourself may be more important than whether you throw one item away, and there's no one way to be minimalist. Different people prioritize having only 100 posessions, or saving money, or spiritualism, or reusing what you have rather than buying things, or being slow to adopt new technology, or being a maker, or nomadism, etc, and they all lead to different conclusions and sometimes contradict each other. My minimalism has been about being able to fit everything in a couple pickup truck loads, saving money, and not adopting new technology until I have a compelling reason to. Others want to keep everything on their phone or have a tiny wallet with only cards (no cash). So we end up having different things but a similar motivation, and a different definition of success.
I thought very important the reassurance of 'minimalism starts as soon as you call yourself a minimalist' because there is always a thought, even subconsciously, that you need to reach some point in order to call yourself a minimalist
Vera, you are very beautiful, I feel you have an inner beauty. I am on the road to minimalism after many years of hoarding. I think your message is very good to enjoy the process of decluttering or designing the life we want but as the quote goes, "life is what happens while you are busy planning. I have decluttered the garden there is still more work to do but this has given me the opportunity to spend more time outside in nature it is very green and beautiful here. Sending you positive energy from Ireland.
Minimalism definitely helped me simplify my life. It made me realise that I don't need a lot of physical things to be happy, which had a knock on effect on how I look at my job, income, etc. It also helped me become more intentional and grounded. I feel that for the first time in my life I managed to figure out what actually adds to my happiness, and what doesn't. This simplified some very important decisions for me, e.g. on buying a house, having children, etc. Vera, you share really good insights, and I always look forward to your videos for your thoughts and inspiration! Thank you!
Hi Vera I have downsized and found the letting go of things quite difficult initially, but I now appreciate everything I do have so much more and actually have more quality time to enjoy life ❤️ everyone has their own opinions on minimalism but you are inspiring and I love your channel 😃
Eight years ago I took the decision to declutter. Mainly out of necessity rather than anything else but it was the best decision ever. Today, I call myself a minimalist. I love a tidy home, few decorations and only items I find practical and useful (and pretty too!). I have a family and we all have our needs/wants and some how, it all works out. Because of constantly staying on top of "stuff", we fit in a 80 m2 flat and we're happy. :)
I loved what you said about you are a Minimalist as soon as you say you are! I have been saying and thinking that for nearly 4 years even though people coming into my house would not think so as my husband is not minimal and I cannot get rid of our dark, fussy French style furniture which keeps me from the little more Scandi style I'd like. But I've been able to greatly reduce decor and pictures hanging on the walls and much less in closets and cupboards and drawers, so it still looks and feels calm and simple, in spite of the furniture style.
Thanks for the wonderful video Vera! Your channel was one of the first minimalist channels I started following before Christmas when I began my minimalist journey. I never took pictures or counted % of things I let go of, but my home has transformed into a place of peace and you are one of the people I have to thank. So thank you for making these videos and helping so many of us live simpler happier lives ❤
Aw thank you Dana, I appreciate that!! Thanks for inviting me on your journey and congrats on transforming your home, I'm excited for you! :) Have a lovely day
This was a great video, Vera. I've only stepped on the path of minimalism in 2019 and I feel that it is an ever changing and evolving journey for me. Everyone is different as you said and everyone has their own pace of doing things. For me it took a while to get down from the hoarder collector state to the level where I still have some possessions but they have deeper meanings now. I also agree that there's no right or wrong way to do this... only your way, and no one should be judging. I am taking my time and it turned out to be working for me as that allows me to really reflect on the things I own and the things that does not have any place in my life any more. Anyhow, I'll stop rumbling about things that you know yourself very much and instead just wish you all the best as before, this was a great video and here for more in the long run. ;) Gary
Thank you so much for this! I'm new to minimalism and I have been binge watching your videos and they/you are so helpful and inspiring! Thank you so much for all that you do! Sending lots of love and light 💕
I loved letting go of so many clothes. It’s wonderful to have things I actually wear in my closet and dresser. Also, old jewelry- paper clutter, office supplies, toys, just starting the process makes it easier as you go. I still don’t have clean countertops though.
Thanks Vera you're always inspiring. It doesn't matter what other people think about your journey because it's your journey not theirs. Hugs from across the ocean ❤
I have many beautiful things and started a hobby that made me buy too much last year. I am often struggling with working towards an airy home, and not buying new things and filling it up agian. I learned that I need to respect the limits like a box or cupboard. It if fits in there in a good way, it's okay for me to keep, if I want and use the item. At the moment my hobby does not fit into the two cupborards that we bought and decided to be the limit, so I need to get rid of some hobby things. I realize I just create a problem with buying to much. Now I am selling some of the hobby things when I am done with them. You inspire a lot, and our home is so much more beautiful and calm since I started looking at you and Sarah at Abundantly minimal. You two get me back on track when I over spent or just put to many decorations up. I can let thing go after watching you two. I both give to chairity, friends and sell, it depends on the item and the time I want to spend of getting rid of the things. Your channel is so lovely. I should write under every video you make, but I just thank you every now and then. I love your content, and channel, and sometimes share your videos and look at them again. Thank you so much! ❤
I just love you! So much great advice. When I look around at what I want to accomplish...it is overwhelming. When I try to explain this need to my sister, to have and see simplicity around me and my need for a CLEAN and uncluttered home, her comment is always, "Oh Lynn, you are sooooo OCD." I try to explain the reason I am striving for this has nothing to do with OCD, but everything to do with a clear and happy mind, heart, and soul.. I finally gave it up and stopped trying to explain this need, because I am tired of being labeled neurotic or OCD. Maybe some of you out there are experiencing the same thing with family and friends and will understand.
I am not a minimalist but I have learned a lot from all of you. I am more intentional with my purchases now. I will always have more stuff than I need. But now I feel rich on a low income. More contentment with my life and the non-material things I have. Kathy B. P. S. I never decluttered my husband's stuff. I don't worry about his personal stuff. It's not him.
Hi Vera, I hope you are well. It is SO true about throwing things in the rubbish. I am going to have to do that with a few things and it has really made me think harder about the future purchases I make, as I ask myself how it will be disposed of in years to come. The hassle of getting rid responsibly is a real buying deterrent! 😬😬😬 Have a lovely evening. x
Yes exactly! :) I do that too. It really helps to think about how this item will eventually be discarded, before buying it. And that little question alone can help us to prevent unnecessary purchases. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful weekend!
Growing up I always had the smallest bedroom and my lil sister always had the bigger bedroom. I'm so use to living with not a lot of stuff. I was always outside enjoying sports with neighborhood kids. Now I live alone with my stuff and its amazing how stuff just accumulates cuz u think you need something and then never use it.
Another good video 🥰. Thank u Vera!...been watching and following ur videos for a long time...hugs from the Philippines. Simple Living is ❤️❤️❤️..btw..love ur hair 😊...
Thank you for this video! I have started my journey and it has been difficult because my husband is the complete opposite. I’m trying to learn that I am responsible for my journey right now.
Hi Vera, congrats for your video. I've considered you much more confident and the structure of the video much more exciting. The video is also more dynamic. I've felt you really happy and inspiring making this video. Of course the subject is also quite relevant. Once again I congratulate you for your video and I wish you plenty success.
Great video.my biggest challenge is books. I can declutter everything but books. Working on it though. I now try to think library before purchasing more. Also, your hair is so pretty!
Thank you Kim :) Yes books can be challenging haha. But there's room for a book collection within minimalism, if you ask me. For me personally, my e-reader is one of the best purchases I've ever made.
Thank you Vera this was a good one! I have been at this consciously for 5 years but I have yet to have the guts to call myself a minimalist. I don't know why that is... I guess I just don't want judgements. This inspired me. I'm a minimalist! 😎Have you ever done a home tour? I missed it if you did... I love those minimalist home tours they're so inspiring
Thank you Gail, so happy you found this video helpful! :) I've never done a complete home tour on the channel before... It feels a bit too personal to share all the nooks and crannies of my home with the world. Maybe some day :)

life is so much better since I found minimalism. you have helped me so much vera. I love being a patreon and getting all the extras thankyou 4 everything ❤ x
Fairyland Cottage is a minimalist that used her grandmother's crystal glasses, silverware and china. Minimalism is a way not a style and people confuse those I think.
@Chic Vintage Gift Thank you!! 🤗💕🎀
I love this!!♥️
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Minimalism has given me a chance to say yes to my children more. Yes we can paint, yes we can bake, yes we have time to go out etc.
Beautiful indeed :)
I love how minimalism has improved your relationships with your family
I’m a new mom and this is what I hope for 💕
I have more clothes than the most minimalist have, I cook I bake I like make up but I use all those things
I don't care if I am minimalist I love practicality of minimalism and that is important to me
Also ethicality
@@nikoletacude8721 I am this way too, no one should strive for the ideal minimal ‘perfection’, it’s about keeping what’s important to YOU
Me and my husband had to start minimalism. IT is the way to go
Love that story!!!
"My husband and I ..." Now you need to learn grammar. 😂😂🤡🤡🤡
My husband is the same. Because he hates ironing, he will go and buy more shirts so he doesn't have to do it! I am quite new to minimalism myself, and am certainly not going to coerce him into joining in, but it will be great when he finally 'gets it;!
I have 8 shirts, one pair of shorts one pair of jeans, I do laundry every 7 days
Dear Vera, you help me so much in the last six months. I decluttered my clothes and my books. What I didn’t expected, are women in my church who come to me to say how happy they and their daughter are for the good clothes they received. My heart feels truly happy!
That's absolutely beautiful Laura!! :)
That's awesome, congrats on all the progress Kristin and good luck tacking your garage! :)
👏👏👏🙏🤗
I started with the why of not leaving my adult children with the stress of figuring out to do with my lifetime of stuff... And then as I went, I started enjoying the freedom and intentionality so much that that is now equally part of my why. Great video!
I love that! :) Thanks for sharing and have a lovely rest of your weekend
🤗👍👍
Is that swedish death cleaning?
I love your laid back and guilt free take on minimalism. Thank you.
I love how you worded that, laid back and guilt free :) Sounds great! :)
Very nice wording indeed.
Aw that's so nice to hear, thank you! :) Have a lovely weekend
I'm not a minimalist, either (especially with books lol), but these videos are still inspirational!
It's so funny that people will say "live a little" when they think you should buy something. As if buying stuff is living.
Hahaha yes that's indeed funny
I love love love it! :D Thanks for sharing Joan. Hope you're doing well
Have an awesome weekend Vera! 💗
I love it, it sounds wonderful :)
This is how I think too! My daughter and so many young You Tubers fill their houses with SO MUCH decor, (all from the same Hobby Lobby type stores) and so much for every season and holiday. I'm SO glad I'm not in that trap!
I love decorating with house plants! They feel practical and bring me joy.
I have house plants but hadn’t thought of them as part of the decor. This gave me a sense of peace. Thank you.
Thank you Mia for sharing and for including me in your journey :) So happy you're feeling good in the clothes you own!
Thanks for sharing this, I loved it, very inspiring :) I'm excited for you now that you have all this room and light and space :)
This reply is awesome. And interesting! Thank you for sharing it!
When I first following you, I was starting from the very beginning to simplify my life. Now, I am still in the journey but I am grateful for every baby step I have taken so far. So very thank you, Vera
That's amazing Verena, thanks for inviting me to be a part of your journey 🤗🌺
I just realised how similar the attitudes towards minimalism and veganism can be, where the ‘true’ practitioners never think you are doing it right. Thanks again Vera.
Haha yes I think there's no need to criticize each other for trying our best and not achieving 'perfection', when there even is no such thing :)
Wow that's amazing, congratulations!!!!
Second hand doesn't have to mean junk. The luxurious leather couch set we bought 12 years ago was 1 year old and the owner had paid over $3,000 for the set, then sold it to us for $300!
I embraced minimalism for myself and hubby saw what a positive effect it's having on me and he's now embracing it too.
You are one of the most motivating people I have ever listened about minimalism. I am on the way to minimalist life, and trying to do my best. Thank you for your inspiring video.
Thank you so much! :) And lots of luck on your minimalism journey!
Bliss.
How clever! I love this tip :) Thanks for sharing and good luck!
I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the journey :) Good luck and have a great day!
This video is very inspiring! I am at the beginning of my minimalism journey, and now have a more clear picture that minimalism is about the mindset and philosophy but not only about decluttering items. Thank you for sincerity and useful tips Vera!
So happy to hear that! thanks Julia and lots of luck with your minimalism and decluttering journey!
That's amazing, I love your comment! And I couldn't agree more about the pressure we put on ourselves through the items we own. Life is too short :)
I watch Erica Lucas’s channel and she calls it minimalish. I really like your channel and your philosophy on minimalism. Thanks for all your ideas.
Thanks so mcuh Martha, have a lovely day!
A lovely way of saying you are in between is it, Martha. Minimalish
You have a charming way about your communication skill. I found you by accident today and enjoyed every minute. I'm in the process of downsizing and find it painful. I'm 82 and simply can no longer keep up with everything. A lot of it is about attitude. I wish you the greatest success. ❤️🙏🍀🙋
Thank you so much Freddy, I'm happy you enjoyed this video! Wishing you lots of luck
I'm actualy learning calligraphy and it seems like starting minimalism has lead me to this choice.
Hi Vera 🙋♀️
I must say...you are Simply Happy Zen Beautiful in this video!!! 🤩
8 years of living a life as a minimalist has a lot to do with how you look, how you very well maintain your place tidy and clean, the way you are able to express yourself in every video you make...all positive outcome.
It is only my 1st year working on my minimalist journey with my hubby and you are certainly my best/most liked!! Loved, in fact!! Take care Vera. Stay happy!🙋♀️💞
Please continue to do what you do.
Aw thank you so much Minnie for writing this comments and sending me so much support and encouragement 💖🌺 I really appreciate it :) Sending you a big hug!
@@SimpleHappyZen you are most welcome vera!🙋♀️❤🍁
I don’t usually comment on UA-cam, but I felt moved to express appreciation for this video. I think it’s absolutely one of your best. In my opinion, world around us seems to be driven by materialism and the physical display of one’s means of life. So I really enjoyed how you applied minimalism to our every day life. I see how it applies to having focus and a purpose in life. And ultimately, we all need to achieve that. Physical things will not make us achieve our purpose. Thank you for your thoughts!
Thank you so much Xaviera for leaving your comment, I really appreciate it :) So happy you enjoyed this video
I like it when you mentioned about being a minimalist in your own way, and every minimalist styles or approaches are not the same. That's a good point, Vera. Well, almost every points that you stated here were excellent! Thank you for this video. :)
Thanks so much Winnie, have a nice day!!
finally got my husband on board! 🥳 it took some time and buying our dream home to do it but he declutters just as much as me now and replaces things with more sustainable options. Yay! Ps. I really like your hairstyle! It suits you 😊.
That's amazing and congrats on buying your dream home, that's awesome!
I needed to hear this. I'm sneaking new stuff in. Slowly increasing that habit. While still.actively decluttering.
We all need a reminder every now and then :)
Thank you SO much for talking about future purchases/bringing items into the home. It is important to dispose of things sustainably, but the impact you make by reducing consumption is far greater!! 💜
Exactly! :)
Exactly!! Couldn't agree more
I like your point about how things change in your life. ☺️
Things can definitely change and it's okay to move with them and stay in touch with our needs :) Thanks for sharing!
I started my minimalist journey during the Christmas break. I had no idea what a positive impact it would have on my life and how much more efficient it would make my house/life and how much extra time it would give me. My 'why' was just making it easier to 'deep clean' but I got so much more from it. Thanks so much for motivating me!
So happy to hear that :) Thanks for sharing!
I think that's a great decision :)
I’m tired from beating myself up. Thanks for putting words to a feeling.
I am appreciating minimalism clears my mind.
Thank you for your valuable contributions to living in minimalism harmony.🤗
Thanks Catherine, have a lovely day! 🤗
Great advice. People should just live their lives and let others theirs. I've been a minimalist for only eight months, just at the beginning of the journey. With everything I declutter I feel very "lighter". The journey is very positive for me. Thank you for all your videos. Stay safe 😘.
Thanks so much Margarete and I'm happy to hear your minimalism journey is bringing you lots of positivity :)
Hi, I started in October and I feel the same!
I feel like my house should float away with all I’ve eliminated. I can do more.
The tips on mindful decluttered and the inability to do so sometimes was incredibly helpful to me!! Thank you for that great insight
I'm happy that was helpful :) I wanted to talk about that for a while, because of the comments I frequently receive. :) Enjoy your day Heather!
Thanks so much for sharing, that's absolutely lovely! So happy minimalism has already brought you so much :) Have a great weekend
Knowing that you don't have to get rid of everything makes me more interested in minimalism. I am not a minimalist, but I have drawn a lot of inspiration from it!
No reason to get rid of anything that brings you joy or value in some way :)

Thank you for sharing Amanda, I'm so sorry to hear about your husband. Sending you and your family strength 🌷
Your videos bring me much joy. Brings clarity and mindfulness that sometimes gets forgotten.
Excellent advice.
Thank you so much :) Have a happy Monday!
@@SimpleHappyZen You have a happy Monday too.
Love how you said minimalism can be applied to multiple areas of life - not just physical things! I often forget this.
🤗💕🌺
It's amazing that you've already made such progress and you're inspiring people around you :) Have a lovely day
8 years already, times indeed fly. We need way less stuff than we think we need. Thanks again, Vera, for the lovely video.
Yes, less is more. 🧡
Thanks so much Tineke, hope you're doing well! :)
I moved away to a smaller house after years of decluttering. With the move lots of stuff and furniture is gone too. I am celebrating the overview. It is an ongoing process.
I wish everyone would watch your videos...your approach is the best and most sensible! Thank you for all the wonderful videos!
Aw thank you so much Lynda, that's so sweet of you to say!
I always love your videos and I've been watching for a long time, but this one is truly amazing. There is such WISDOM in this one and it truly feels profound. Fantastic job, my dear. Keep it up!!!
Wow thank you Amber for that wonderful compliment! :) Have a lovely day!
even though i have been a minimalist for about 4 years, i still struggle with some of the things you have mentioned in this video. this had helped me so much and makes me feel very at peace for exactly what i have and i’ve learned that i will never be a “perfect” minimalist. i need to stop feeling guilt for buying something that i like, even though i don’t NEED to have it!!!
I'm glad this video helped you to work out some things :) Good luck and have a nice day Stephanie!
so glad I found your channel. I follow a lot of minimalism channels but you're very soothing and relaxing
Thank you so much Madelyn 🤗🌼
That's amazing, I'm so happy minimalism has brought you so much in life :)

Wonderful video to wake up to here in America....thank you for all your sharing and guidance....i am a 70 year old female full time RV ing for the last 4 years....though my possessions are greatly reduced I decided to reduce even more and have found 2 of the biggest benefits are sitting with a possible purchase for at least a day or 2 and the change in mind set as to what is important in my personal interactions....again than you
That's amazing! :)
I have decluttered a lot over the last few months- it gives me such a feeling of peace when I get rid of unnecessary items in my house. I recently got rid of so many shoes that I haven't worn in years! Another positive aspect about decluttering is that it doesn't take so long to clean my house! I don't have to move around useless items to dust shelves / counters off :-)
I love it!! Congrats Amy, I'm excited for you

That's awesome! Good luck with decluttering Chantal. Let the spring cleaning begin hahaha

Cannot love this enough 💓💓💓 so appreciate how positive healthy and how well presented this is and how focused it is on what really matters and is really important
Yay, thank you, that's so nice to hear! :)
Thank you so much, so happy you enjoyed this video :) And I love what you shared!
I love the video, when you speak about "letting go" and "sentiments" it enlightens me to a relief from the choices I've made to be minimalist.
Thanks Adam, so happy you enjoyed the video and found it helpful :)
I literally learnt about minimalism from you and I am continuing that path.. Often I have to listen that I have no respect for the items I have bought as I am discarding them. But I keep on telling myself that I am respectful to them, that’s why I am sending them to others where they will be of some use.
Thanks so much for sharing and I'm happy my videos have been useful to you! :) Have a great day
@@SimpleHappyZen thanks so much dear 💝 loads of love and wishes for you 🤗🤗🥰🥰
I have so much to say about how I live my life, realizations and challenges as a beginner minimalist.
Thanks you so much for sharing this!
Thanks for sharing your experiences Reymond! Lots of luck on your minimalism and simplifying journey
Great video, thanks! I really struggle with letting go of books, and you remind me that's okay!
I'm glad you enjoyed the video Anne, it's totally okay! :)
Yes! :) Thanks Mike
Thank you, Vera! Love this channel so much!! 💕🦋😊🌿
Thank you so much, I appreciate that Nena 🤗🌺☕
I thought very important the reassurance of 'minimalism starts as soon as you call yourself a minimalist' because there is always a thought, even subconsciously, that you need to reach some point in order to call yourself a minimalist
Thanks Gabi, it starts when we say it starts :)
Thanks so much for your kind comment and good luck with the garden, I hope you'll enjoy lots of nice weather there :)
Take a ... Picture 🤗 of Sentimental Items...Then DONATE or Sell.
I love that! Thanks for sharing Erin Mae :) Have a happy Wednesday
Love this! Thank you Vera, I love your perspective on minimalism and mindful living 💖
So happy to hear it, thank you!! Have a happy Monday
Minimalism is much more about our mindset than it is about our aesthetics :) Thanks for sharing Dana and have a happy Monday!

Excellent video Vera. Go easy is what ur saying about minimalism. So true..your videos have a soothing sense of calm..
Thank you so much Aparnaa 🤗🍵
This was a great video, Vera. I've only stepped on the path of minimalism in 2019 and I feel that it is an ever changing and evolving journey for me. Everyone is different as you said and everyone has their own pace of doing things. For me it took a while to get down from the hoarder collector state to the level where I still have some possessions but they have deeper meanings now. I also agree that there's no right or wrong way to do this... only your way, and no one should be judging. I am taking my time and it turned out to be working for me as that allows me to really reflect on the things I own and the things that does not have any place in my life any more. Anyhow, I'll stop rumbling about things that you know yourself very much and instead just wish you all the best as before, this was a great video and here for more in the long run. ;) Gary
Thank you so much Gary, I appreciate it!! :) Have a happy Monday
Thank you so much for this! I'm new to minimalism and I have been binge watching your videos and they/you are so helpful and inspiring! Thank you so much for all that you do! Sending lots of love and light 💕
Aw thank you so much, I appreciate that :) Glad you're finding value in my videos, have a great day and good luck on your minimalism journey!
I loved letting go of so many clothes. It’s wonderful to have things I actually wear in my closet and dresser. Also, old jewelry- paper clutter, office supplies, toys, just starting the process makes it easier as you go.
I still don’t have clean countertops though.
An extremely helpful video ❤️🌿
Thank you for being you!
Aw thank you Susy, have a nice relaxing Sunday!
I really like your side braided look.
Didn't realise it's been over a year now watching and learning from your experiences.. keep sharing.. cheers..
Thank you for being here for over a year!! :) I think I'll have the side braid a lot in the summer haha. Have a nice day
Thanks Vera you're always inspiring. It doesn't matter what other people think about your journey because it's your journey not theirs. Hugs from across the ocean ❤
Exactly! :) Thanks so much Cathy, hugs back!
Thank you! 🤗 Not always easy to know where to start and how. So many wrong choices along.
It's a journey, I think every step will bring us closer to our goals :)
Awesome advice! You look amazing in the red top! Thanks for all your inspiration and encouragement.
Aw thank you Tia :) Have a nice day!
I can't wait to watch this today for my "fun" me time! I just looked as well, and saw that Patreon was affordable, so I am going to join :D :D
Thanks so much for including my video into your fun me time! :) And I'd love to see you on Patreon
I'm so happy you're experiencing these wonderful benefits! :) Thanks for sharing Kathy, have a happy Monday!
Thank you so much for watching my videos and supporting my channel! :) I really appreciate it. Have a lovely day
Thank you for this video! I have started my journey and it has been difficult because my husband is the complete opposite. I’m trying to learn that I am responsible for my journey right now.
Loved this video! So important things to learn and keep in mind
Thank you so much :) Have a nice day!
Thank you Vera. You made some excellent points and gave me permission to enjoy the journey.
I'm happy to hear it Kathy, have a lovely week!
Hi Vera, congrats for your video. I've considered you much more confident and the structure of the video much more exciting. The video is also more dynamic. I've felt you really happy and inspiring making this video. Of course the subject is also quite relevant. Once again I congratulate you for your video and I wish you plenty success.
Aw thank you so much Irene for saying that, I really appreciate it 🤗🌺
Great video.my biggest challenge is books.
