    iFixit: Non-removable battery, 0/10 repairability score.
    ChargerLAB: Hold my beer…

      @veccio Рік тому +10

      I’m guessing iFixit is aware of this but doesn’t recommend the fine soldering work and risk of an average user overheating the battery too risky. You’d probably want to find the soldering gun, heat resistant tape and an infrared thermometer at the very least and most people would probably wing it with a hair dryer, posing a risk.

    • @BengalGecko
      @BengalGecko 8 місяців тому +4

      @@veccioI winged it with hot hands and a hairdryer and it worked great. Battery came right out. I also just clamped the AirPod into a small electronic clamp stand with magnifying glass and did the soldering. Thankfully though I have extremely fine soldering tips, that’s the most important part imo, oh and definitely take some anti convulsants and maybe a benzodiazepine so your hands don’t shake LOL one twitch and you’ll melt through the side of the AirPod haha

    Nice work. The fact these are so hard to repair and sold in such big numbers, most of which first gen are probably in landfill, is pretty depressing.

    I definitely recommend zooming a bit for a clearer picture. It was kinda hard to see where you soldered, for example.
    But nonetheless, excellent video!

    This year I was the last person to be re-gifted a set of Airpods that have apparently been circulating for 6 years. They are not taking a charge. With this guide I believe I can at least try to get them working.

    Now, if Apple actually cares about the environment they will open up replacement parts and tools to 3rd party repair shops and to individuals.
    Good video though, glad too see this is still possible till Apple pairs a chip in the battery with the headphone unit similar to that of the iPhone batteries. Making replacements impossible.

      Law should prevent companies like Apple from making products that cannot have batteries replaced easily. It is contributing to planetary destruction!

    Hi! Thank you for the video, very useful! I did it in one airpod but now it takes a lot of time to racharge.. maybe some contact with the plate that is behind the metallic closure of the airpod?

    Thanks for the video! I’ve been replacing batteries in phones, computers, and various other electronic devices for some time now, but the time has come for me to learn this delicate repair. I can’t bring myself to discard my 1st gen AirPods, as it feels like a waist with all other components besides the batteries being perfectly fine. Heat gun, patience, and probably more heat gun.
    Is the flex that connects the bottom charging contacts and microphone integrated with the battery connector flex tabs? The battery tabs appear to “sandwich” it.

    Hi man! I have Airpods gen. 1 with dead batteries. I’m confused cause I saw on aliexpress that those battery (A1523, A1722, A1604, A2032 and A2031) are all compatible. Is that true? Because it makes no sense to name them different way…

      Edit: This is the original repair video, where they make their own clamp jig: ua-cam.com/video/pE9aB5aPbMM/v-deo.html
      Just need to design one on a 3D printer. Otherwise, I'm sure you could put some soft material around a clamp. There doesn't seem to be a lot of pressure required to pull the battery out.

    These are an improvement over the 1st gen buds. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxK5mc3yw4xA7Mf2j6k6n1Uqv_KUgrKdeM Pros: The fit is fantastic. This is the biggest plus. They stay in my ears when running and become unnoticeable. They are tight but comfortable. The sound quality is about the same as the 1st gen buds. They pair more easily with my LG G8 ThinQ and immediately reconnect when removed from the case. The sound balance is excellent, good but not overpowering base and clean mid tones and highs.Cons: The noise cancellation is good but perhaps a little less effective than the Bose ANC on the 1st gen buds. Passthrough mode as not as good as the 1st gen buds making it a little more difficult to hear conversations when in passthrough.
