It should come as no surprise that I didn't solve this one. What irks me is that I never even considered pushing the pawn to c6. I saw that it would be taken immediately, which made me assume the move was pointless. I must learn to dig deeper.
My first idea was 2. Rh1+ Kb2 3. Ra1 Kxa1 5. Kc2 but after d5 4. c6 d4 5. c7 d3+ 6.Kxd3 there is a ONLY and beautiful defense for black to draw (I confess that I missed it) 6.Kb1!!=. This line gives this study even more beauty.
at 11:22 , you said , "if he goes somewhere else, he'll just lose his Queen". BUT you need to go through that variation also because he can lets say go to b3 , lose his Queen , and then go d8 , promote to Queen AND ITS A CHECK!
I have a new strategy to solve these. As soon as I solve the puzzle DO NOT TURN THE VIDEO ON AGAIN! When I let the video continue I find my brilliant solution has a flaw.
How about 1 Rxa2 ? After ... Kxa2 2 Kxc3 and White can shepherd the pawn on c5 to promotion and victory. If Black plays 1 ... Pc2 White plays 2 Rxc2. Moving the d pawn results in immediate capture.
What about this line? Rh1 > Kb2 > Ra1 If Kxa1, then Kc2 gives you an easy way to immobilize both pawns and the king, forcing his other pawn to move, at which point you advance to promote. If Pc2, then Kd2 lets your Rook safely cover the c1, and the king still has the same trap if the Rook is captured. If the d7 pawn is pushed you just advance. If the king continues upward, you capture the pawn on a2. Is there some reason this wouldn't work?
Hmm. I would have thought it was simple. KxP, and then if black moves d8(Q), Rh8 mate; if black moves a3 or a4, then Ka3... ah, then black gets another move before Rh8. That's why this is a tough problem.
@@TopherOKeefe Sorry about that. I have a cold/sour throat at the moment and I don't have the budget, nor the technical know-how on how to cut stuff like that out. I just try to edit out the worst parts.
@ lol Don’t get me wrong, I love your stuff! Feel better! Obviously, I have no idea what equipment you’re running, but a simple mute button is available from $25USD and up on Amazon. Cheers! 🍻

The most IMPORTANT "soldier" is (obviously) the PAWN ! Beautiful !!

Ra1 c2 is a draw, isn't it?
@@rhamnus05no) Kd2 and it is the win of white.
Ra1 is the great wrong idea)
Very nice! Too difficult for me but I enjoyed your analysis. 👍
Excellent puzzle as always. Thank you very much
Tough one but good one 😂
Great study. There was more here than "met my eye" !

1) c6 -- dc; 2) Kc --- a1 Queen; 3) Kb3 followed by unstoppable Rh1 ch mate. if a1 Queen 3) Rh1 ch -- Kb2; 4) Rxa1 -- dc ( ifKxR; c2 & c1 Queen) ; 5) Ra6 -- wins.
Excellent study - thank you.

2:07 This variant was covered in the Video: 1. Rxa2? Kxa2 2. Kxc3 Ka3 3. Kc4 Ka4 4. Kd5 Kb4 5. Kd6 Kc4 6. Kxd7 Kxc5 draw!
Ah that’s what I was looking at too. It looks like it’s just one move too slow
Not sure how I missed that!
Surprised. I solved the entire puzzle. Usually these are too hard for me.

Oops. Black started from the top, as usual; it's the a pawn that threatens to promote.
I did get the first move because that was the only possibility.
Very nice. Ta.
Solved
10:52 (after White's Kc2) What about *1 ... Qd1+ 2 Kxd1 d8(Q)+* ?
The pawn is black... Can move to d6

I think white rook C2.
Sir, may I make a recommendation?
Don’t sniffle, clear your throat, etc, on the microphone. Invest in a sneeze button.
