Good thing Judit wasn't playing a computer! I believe you have given us a Christmas/Hannikkah gift with this most excellent tutorial. Always a pleasure to come to ChessNetwork. May the new year exceed your your dreams of the future.
I think that Polgar's initial play was against Black's idea of bringing a knight to b6. Taking cxd3 stops ...Nc4. Then, Black was mistaken when he took on c5 with his bishop, fataly weakening his dark squares. Loved b3! Black is left with knights that are stepping on each other's toes (hooves?) and now have nowhere to go, and White's dark squares bishop suddenly has a bright future. Judith starts to pressure, Black has more and more problems defending, until finally Judith finds a really nice tactic, starting with Bxc6! Thanks Jerry, as always!
Nice game with Nice analysis with multiple variations ❤, will have to repeat to retain the maximum. Queen threatening rook and knight similar to the question already in my mind that is can rook and knight defend against Queen in the endgame. Thanks Sir.
Thank you. The rook and knight cannot compete with the queen in this situation. There is a great lack of coordination, which will almost certainly result in the loss of material. Pawns will fall.
For anyone wondering the losing move here was QC7 on move 21 black actually played quite well in a bad position before that. Needed to put the knight on c6 right then instead of wait a turn
White's central pawns were killing White's bishop pair, but Black's disruption of the pawn chain was not effective, because it helped Judit repair her central structure by releasing her pieces. Two errors that generated an instructive game. With the help of Jerry's magnifying glass, of course.
One would have thought that creating the doubled Pawns for White would have been ugly enough to shy away from instinctively - surprised, actually, that a player of Pulgar’s strength tried it. The “answering blunder” by Black was much easier to understand. (Perhaps Pulgar was counting on this oversight? But again, that is not a normal practice in chess.)
I saw a Magnus game not too long ago with a similar opening pattern where you get an early nb3 in the advanced Caro and i always win these positions as white it feels

Nice. Instructive show of the x factor bishop's mobility. Also, great attack by Polgar!
Merry Christmas from Ukraine, Jerry! 💙 💛
Neat game, nice analysis.
Technical question: Which is worth more, a monster knight, or a knight that's a beast?
Very tough call. 😎
