Elijah Espinoza The while film from screenplay to cast is Wonderful. The chemistry between Franck and George is comical! Welcome to the 90s Mr Bonks 😂😆
Henry Salisbury Watched these again recently, lockdown alone. But seriously every time I am shopping and have to buy buns or hotdog rolls, I always start a patchy version of his rant. Unfortunately not many people are as familiar with this film as you would hope.
I remember watching this movie the first time in the 90s. I fell on the floor crying from laughter. He just came out of nowhere and owned every scene. Steve Martin is just parked in the shadow the moment Short arrives. Legend.
@@lisayerry3694 Agree. Those two have incredible chemistry, and Steve's reactions make Martin seem even funnier than he already is on his own. Everything those two do togehter is gold, and we are fortunate that they are good friends and constantly work together. If you haven't already, check out Only Murders in the Building. They are outdoing themselves on every new season of that show.
I noticed usually George his wife and daughter are in one shot and Martin short in another. They could have recorded those particular takes separately (they did that with chevy chase's rant in Christmas vacation).
Steve Martin, the dad, expression when he can't understand a word Martin Short says, and when he sees $1200 for the wedding cake......funny freaking stuff.
Fun fact: The famous “Franck” voice was kind of an accident. During the making of Father of the Bride, it was suggested that Short’s character, eccentric wedding planner Franck Eggelhoffer, had an accent that was so broad, audiences wouldn’t be able to tell where he was from. Relying on his improv skills, Short played Franck a handful of different ways, giving director Charles Shyer a number of versions to choose from. Shyer ended up going with the heightened presentation seen in the movie, thus creating one of Short’s most memorable characters🙂
Love their chemistry!! Such funny guys! "Let's just choose a cake, ok? A cake, Frahnk, is made of flower and water. Welcome to the 90's, Mr. Banks!!" Fab-oo-lous! LOL

I used to watch this movie with my sister and mother, and now there is only me. I have some great memories of lazy Sundays and the three of us , sitting on the couch, laughing our asses off.
Dragonfly0010 B.D. Wong's first-ever appearance in a film was in "The Karate Kid, Part 2". He was the boy who walked up to Daniel and Kumiko on the street and invited them to the dance. ua-cam.com/video/XE6LnmR37C0/v-deo.html Timestamp is 0:51 😀 (in the final credits, he was listed as "Bradd Wong")
Trust me , it really isn’t. Like obviously it is for a cake, but in context of how much Wedding Cakes cost, $1200 is an average priced wedding cake. Welcome to the 90’s.
My son asked me what the difference between pie and cake was and even though I haven’t seen this movie in decades “wahhhding keck” popped into my head and I had to find this clip. This was a favorite movie of my mom and dad, neither who are with us any more, and I can still hear my dad laughing at Honk and Fronk in my mind. Good, good memories of a great film.
Many of the scenes are shot from two angles and they may have used stand ins to do Shorts dialogue. In big movies like this one they use one camera only and have to shoot every scene several times from different angles. It's very common that actors act to a crew member reading the script and they edit the two angles into one. Except for the scenes where they appear together I bet they struggled not laughing. Maybe there are som blooper video somewhere.
Martin Short created the ultimate "impossibly gay German in America" stereotype; watch anybody making a gay German accent and that's him in this movie lol
His best movie performance IMO! I can not imagine how the crew could have continued filming without losing it and laughing during the take. Amazing talent.
OMG I forgot how fabulous Marty was in this film. And how Steve just simmered throughout the whole shebang, lolololol. And it's even funnier now that we know Marty as the funniest man on Earth, with his endless comedic shtick. I challenge anyone to watch this who's having a "bad day." You will soon be rolling on the floor!
I hurt my back last and boy am I ever in a lot of pain, everytime I laugh, it hurts, I just can't stop watching Martin Short and Steve Martin here! Great scene with Diane Keaton and Kimberly Williams-Paisley!

"Uh-oh! HELLLLOOOOO!!!" years before "Uh-oh! HOTDOG!!!" and his good-natured/exasperated/laughing build up to "welcome to the 90's Mr. Banks!" is just superb. Hilarious. And I love how Marty will always trys and work in being cross-eyed at least once during his character bits. Just for comic effect. And he does it briefly here with "ok please! The original Father of the Brides were definitely better movies but Martin Short’s character in the modern remakes is downright hilarious. It’s still so funny after all these years.
When Martin Short is on screen, Steve Martin is his straight man. And he gets some 'fabulous' help from the great Dan Pasqueli as the tempermental caterer (you might remember him as Bill Murray's freaked out psychiatrist in Groundhog day) MUST watch Martin Short's scenes with Close Captions so you won't miss one warped and hilarious word of his fabulousness.
Martin Short should have gotten an Oscar nomination for this role. It's so hilarious and well done.

That's Steve's job here. He's as a good as the straight man as he is the funny man.
I have to disagree….they were the dynamic duo. If Steve hadn’t freaked out, Martin wouldn’t have been half as funny!!!

HALLO!!!
How on earth did everyone else stay in character during Short’s scenes. Zero chance I could’ve kept it together. 😂
Ever heard of multiple takes. It's not like they're filming this live.
I noticed usually George his wife and daughter are in one shot and Martin short in another. They could have recorded those particular takes separately (they did that with chevy chase's rant in Christmas vacation).
You realize this is clearly filmed in shot-reverse shot, right? The camera gets Short’s part in a separate take from the family reactions…
These are professionals. They don't care.

This was way before HIPAA. Way before
This film just lights up when Martin Short appears, even better in FOTB 2 they have become almost friends and still hilarious
