@@Methilde Not really! It was the most obvious ending in the world. As soon as I saw the other people in the café, I knew exactly what was going to happen. And Dave Allen was Irish, although this was filmed in Ruislip. But, apart from that, you're right! Cheers.
@@onesong2001 yes he was, but this is still a British comedy clip broadcast by the BBC. He didn't do any much TV in Ireland, in fact RTE banned him, lol.
@@aclark903 Yes, that's true. Dave Allen lived in the UK from the 1950s until his death in 2005, and English writers contributed to his shows, including well-known names like Graham Chapman and Terry Jones (later of Monty Python), Barry Cryer, and Chris Langham. Cheers.
Quite a few English comedy and crime programmes had seasons filmed in Australia in the 1970’s. I suppose production costs and budgets allowed for it during that period. There was the notional attachment between the two countries as well. Britain as ‘Old Blighty’ and Australia as a member of the ‘British Commonwealth of Nations’. Tastes seemed solidly fastened to Anglo-Australian preferences. Still, it resulted in some pretty good British comedy that we may not have been enjoying in other circumstances.
This is Ruislip, junction of Ducks Hill Road and Reservoir Road. The cafe closed years back but the building remained until 2020. The two women pushing the prams were not actors, they were people who lived a few houses up the street and were unaware of any filming .
Loved watching Dave Allen at Large. I remember him doing a monologue telling a joke about a Protestant and a Catholic. He had a cigarette in one hand and a drink in the other . Classic stuff
He would take puff and then a drink. He sat the drink down and after he took another puff he went to remove the cigarette but dropped it on his coat with the ashes getting on it. Laughed about using the wrong hands while drinking and smoking. (He had part of his finger missing lol)
I watched this on TV a long time ago as a child, and for several years after I somehow remembered it as being a Stanley Baxter sketch. Strange how memory can play tricks like that.
I never supposed a similar end😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.......british gags are always the best way to make laughing!!!!!!Too much amazing!!!!!!😂😂😂😂😂thanks so much!!!!!I laugh till next week, sleeping also!!!!!
Dave Allen was a comedic genius. Of all his sketches that I can remember, the two competing funeral gigs racing each other to the grave site was the most memorable, at least for me. And his tale about the earthworm and the whiskey.
Heh heh. I saw this long ago. But I couldn't remember the ending. So just now I experienced the surprise ending all over again. Very cute sketch. Classic.
My fave Dave Allen sketch is when a man is shown to lead a WILD life, then falls off a cliff to his death on the rocks below. When they turn the man over it's apparent by his collar that he is a priest, LOL : )
Epic. I thought he'll be looking for the owner in the cafe, who will want to be bribed with his usual morning coffee to move the car, but then when he does move it, he'll pick up the money right away.
Classic British comedy, classic Dave Allen💎I remember an interview from a Sunday paper in the late 70s where early in his career one of the most difficult things he had to do was keep a straight face outside in the rain while taking into a microphone covered with a condom .."it was the only way we could keep out the water!" he said 💎RIP Dave Auckland New Zealand 2024
Me & my mum used to watch this but my dad was straight laced and hated it. He didn't like the funeral sketches. He'd always leave the room while it was on!
Holy cow, now this right here is classic comedy. We will never have humour again because, to top this, is just impossible. If i had a nickel for every time I laughed outwardly I'd have 10 pounds (get it, like in the skit). Anyways I'm gonna go cry into my hands because I know I'll never laugh or be happy again.
There is something about these types of skits that make it just that much classier. No words spoken, smooth, slow, but so perfect
That's why I enjoy watching Mr. Bean. No cheap jokes or vulgar languages. Just pure foolery.
I agree
Maybe the music
witty and smart
No words spoken..?
British comedy, not many words, smooth and well build up to the end. Just love em
The best side of britain :)
Unexpected ending, great.

Dave was Irish, not British.
@onesong2001
South Irish?
@@onesong2001 yes he was, but this is still a British comedy clip broadcast by the BBC. He didn't do any much TV in Ireland, in fact RTE banned him, lol.
Oh dear, hadn't seen this for years, classic Dave Allen 🤣
Now seriously, I didn't expect that!
same
same
Right 😂
I seen this clip many times and it's still funny
the wind blew the bill away and landed right where a car was going to park and the same procedure was repeated. That was my guess
Would've been even funnier if it turned out the cafe owner had set this up each time. :D
Brilliant
That what I thought! I was expecting that twist at the end…
Wouldn't surprise me if any actual Cafes got the idea from this.
lol just thinking the same 😂
Yes.. that is exactly what i thought. I was waiting for a thumbs up and a smile from the café staff/management
Undoubtedly a class apart.Never be another Dave Allen.May his God go with him😅😅❤
thats one good way of getting the customers lol
everything was so subtle. absolutely hilarious!
I was pleasantly surprised by the conclusion. Usually one can spot where such a thing will go. 🤣
You just cannot beat British comedy. Brilliant!
Especially when it's made by an Irish man 😂👍
Dave Allen was Irish, but go on.
@@NilguiriI suspect not all of his writers were..

This would never appear in Ireland at the time. Irish broadcaster RTE banned him in 1977. Like Father Ted, this is as British as chicken tikka masala.
Not a single swear word, no nudity, just human nature and big laughs. Well done
Yes, it would have been nice to have a little nudity in this scene.
Dave Allen was a classic. Did a TV show here in Australia too.
Loved his work, I consider myself lucky that my parents let me stay up to watch The Dave Allen Show on Friday nights.

I found it predictable.
This is the definition of old school comedy this is for sure something my dad would have laughed at lol
Mine too, had a great sense of humor.
British comedy is the best. Mr. Bean, Fawlty Towers, and the skits like what’s posted here. Thanks for a laugh today.
Dave Allen - great Irish man. He was brilliant.
That's the best ending ever😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
British humour knows no bounds.
So does Bangla humour.
@Brian Howard humour* and also you forgot your gazillion laugh tracks to go alongside that comment.
Ironically, Dave Allen is Irish.
@minicle426 English mother though, and moved to England when he was 14, and died in London.
I'm not trying to claim him, half English/Irish myself 😎
@@minicle426 maybe so, but this sketch is British. Dave's standup is uniquely Irish. A wonderful comedian.
Well that's one reason to sit down for a cup of tea... They're all very classy... 😂

Thank you, just found it on Streetview thanks to your info. 🙂
I wonder why they chose to film it there. It's miles away from the BBC.
Love inside information
Thank you ,for the information. I found it on streetview. Greetings from Brazil.

The comedian's name was David Allen, I believe . . .?

Dave Allan was in a league of his own.
I was waiting for the waitress to go move her car and retrieve her money, then come back in and say, “It works every time…”
It is the best ever. Not a huge fan of the late Dave Allen, but this is still top-drawer material.
