I met Arty in Krakow in like 2015, before Remastered was even announced. I asked him and Tasteless about the possibility of casting BW, since it was all SC2 - and their eyes SPARKED. They said that they would love to when given chance. 8 years later, here we are. Thank YOU Arty for your commitment to this beautiful game.
Wow that was insane. I thought for sure the game was over when Light lost the bottom left. And then again when his army basically got wiped when he went cross map to the mineral-only.
In that JyJ game you're referring to he also had EMP alongside the Gols to zone the Queen's out. Also Zelots refusal to get Defilers on 8 base is nuts!
Hey Arty, been a long time watcher of these casts. This has been part of my daily routine for the last few weeks. I love these casts. Thank you for doing these! I also really love the insight you sometimes do at the end where you showcase the parts where the actions they took decides the game, so keep doing that!
Aggressive zerg vs Macro terran is my favorite matchup. It feels like how each race should play not just game wise but lore wise. Terran trying to establish a base of operations and hold the line against a mindless fearless swarm that slowly eats away at them.
honestly speaking I think this was a game played just for the sake of practice. There is no way Zelot being on 6-7 gases doesn't build a single defiler all game. He also splattered himself attacking when he really didn't need to, being up a full 3 bases at one point.
@ArtosisCasts: Btw, during the cast you missed on special thing. Zelot in fact did go for something agressive - his opening was 9h 9p. But being cross spawn it prohibited him from going some kind of liing agression. And I also think the marine moveout could have been related to this fact. Otherwise awesome game and cast! Thanks!
This was a really fun watch. Thanks for the cast Arty! On a slightly tangential question, do Zerg ever use Devourers? I feel like I've never seen them in modern sc comp, but I avoid zvz so maybe that's why? Is the unit bad?
12:15 Do you think that a pro player can distinguish which valk the scourge are following just by the movements and snipe them by splitting another valk from the group?
At this point.... if you're losing half your Queens bc you can't get to the tanks..... maybe is better to just broodling the goliaths at the edge?? .... I know it's not optimal... but at least you won't lose your Queen?... and probably you'll get an extra Goliath kill or two bc of SIege tanks friendly fire sometimes?..... I'm really asking bc I don't know. Seems like it could be the case for this game, is it not?
If he had used broodlings on Goliaths light would have killed him immediately. Mass tank with a few goliaths beats hydra-lurker super easily as we saw. Hydras fight goliaths, queens fight tanks.
This was the first Starcraft 1 game I ever watched casted. Been watching Starcraft 2 for a decade now, just never got into the original. To think that a game that hasn't been updated in 25 years still has creativity and problem solving going on and new metas being discovered....
@RT I think the early harassment is definitely a thing to copy for week players too. With his scouting scv he could get sure, that no lings were made due to the mass drones in the base and avoiding to kill the first scouting ling with his 2 marines should be the attraction for every player in the game.
That is the 1st game where I see a Mech Terran win in this ASL pro gamer setting... maybe the Irradiate was actually a really good choice over EMPing, he constantly reduced the Queens by that
That’s was something I always wondered about. My feeling was that a cannon rush that was executed that well couldn’t be stopped. I was wrong. I honestly don’t know if Best could’ve done it better and still Action kept his hatchery
What bloodsuckern said. Basically with hold position you can allow the enemy to walk over your lurkers without knowing and you can then order the lurkers to attack when it's too late for them to flee or spread out.
Vessels are just better, Valk's big benefit is their ability to deal with clumps of air units, and Queens do not clump up especially when they get their spawn broodlings command. A queen can move in, spawn, and move out before a valk kills them. Vessels can emp, d-matrix, irradiate and detect, which gives them an immense amount of utility. Just doesn't make sense to burn production time on Valks lategame (unless you expect a muta switch)
It's not about the gas (vessels cost a lot more). It's about the usage of the starports. Valkyries lose a lot of their value when mutas aren't being made anymore. Vessels are just much more versatile.
Hey Artosis. Commenting because you told me lol. But just a suggestion of what I want to see. How about casting some of your ladder matches every now and then? Thanks.
I thought zelot was going to lose when that happened, all the value he gained was lost in the hydras he sac'd you cant hold up 6 bases and have enough for map control.
Hey arty, why don't more terran players do this kind of valkyrie rush build? Correct me if i'm wrong but if light had been a bit more cautious with those valkyries until he got 3 of them suddenly aren't mutalisks basically useless since 3 valks will one shot? I feel like so often mutas kill so many SCVs and bio that having a "cheat code" to just not deal with them would be a no brainer.
its because you need Science Vessels to push out against Lurkers. The Valkyrie rush can be quite good but if the Zerg is able to get lurkers close to your base and contain it can be hard to apply pressure.
I figured as much, but i guess what i'm asking is how important is applying pressure after the muta harass? Is staying on two bases for a bit and macroing just giving zerg too much freedom to expand and max out?@@IanFanselow
@@Tungar111-mv2hw I think the big concern is to make sure a defiler can't dark swarm the natural with lurkers there. And if the lurkers are containing you it's a lot scarier because the Defilier can just waltz up. But definitely the valkyrie seems like a good thing to mix in, especially if the Zerg goes extra heavy on Muta cause that delays lurkers so you don't have to worry as much
I wonder if the Zerg should instead just broodling the goliaths when they are screening for the tanks that hard. Maybe once the goliath count is reduced you can hydra bomb the tanks with overlord drops like Protoss does with zealots? IDK. Seems like ZeLoT in this game just ran his queens face first into the goliaths multiple times. He still got value out of them, even still.
Did light know he was playing zelot? You said this was a ladder game? You kind of made it sound like light picked his build because he knows he is playing zelot. Zelots id is just a barcode from the looks of it
I don't think this was such great game. ZeLot got real lazy the last 10 minutes. just throwing away his armies for peanuts. Anyway nice cast, love the channel!
Why can’t why patch SC1 so you start with the same amount of workers like SC2? Would that break the game ? Wouldn’t we have faster games like SC2? Which is better ?
No, it would completely ruin the game. The 12 worker start was one of the worst things to ever happen to sc2. There is almost no variety in the early game compared to 6 worker starts.
This was a super interesting match. The map is different from what we usually see, and the unit combination for Light at the start was so cool, came out with everything basically. Really well played on both sides.
Watching ZeLoT play a solid macro game was a treat! I feel like he almost had it but didn't because he was missing just one or two things. Maybe using zerglings instead of hydras as meatshields for queens would have been more efficient. They cost less and move in faster, sometimes even mine dragging.
Seems like there were enough close engagements where the cost efficiency of cracklings would have cleaned up. At least provided additional targets for the goliaths to buy more queen spellcasting time. I really liked the parasite for the vision, allowing spell casting splits while controlling elsewhere.

I concur. BW might very well be the best game ever made, and Arty is the king of its casters. Thank you for your commitment.
arty with sparkling eyes . I m scared, dude
This story gave me chills.
best game ever brood war
thanks Artosisssssssss

Aggressive zerg vs Macro terran is my favorite matchup. It feels like how each race should play not just game wise but lore wise. Terran trying to establish a base of operations and hold the line against a mindless fearless swarm that slowly eats away at them.
And then sometimes they just suddenly deliver a knockout blow on the zerg out of nothing
Your casts are always awesome! Thank you for making content, you are a StarCraft legend!
Glad Arty moved to Canada. I can see the sorries kicking in ❤
This is the kind of game you want to show someone asking about Starcraft! Great stuff, thanks for casting.
Glad to see you back. It was hard to get by without my daily fix of Starcraft
Such a great game! Thanks for casting
Clean game from both players! Very enjoyable match with battles and troop movements all over the map.
Wow, amazing back and forth game! Was sure Terran will crumble in face of 14+ queens, but he adapted and managed to prevail
A game of mass Queens casted by our King ❤️❤️❤️
honestly speaking I think this was a game played just for the sake of practice. There is no way Zelot being on 6-7 gases doesn't build a single defiler all game. He also splattered himself attacking when he really didn't need to, being up a full 3 bases at one point.
Artosis: *cough* sorry guys, I'm still a little sick! Sick casts!
Awesome game glad to have you back sir. Health always comes first, don't feel pressured by anything.
Great map, awesome game! Glad you're feeling better Artosis, welcome back!
Welcome back to the action!
i have to watch everything, keep em comin arty

Sometimes they are used vs carriers
Artosis Casts is back!
Prepping for ASL with ladder games same match up is the career dedication that gets us behind the scenes thank you!
Welcome back Artosis!
12:15 Do you think that a pro player can distinguish which valk the scourge are following just by the movements and snipe them by splitting another valk from the group?
This game was fantastic. ASL is gonna be hype!

BEAST MODE !!! Both side played with amazing mastery !
What a long 30 min game! It was fun and challenging to watch. As we can see, both sides are very good players. Mass queen, wow. This game is awesome!
Every time Arty has chills Im getting contact chills
CHILLS TASTELESS CHILLS
if that's the type of games we're going to get at ASL I'm excited
This was the first Starcraft 1 game I ever watched casted. Been watching Starcraft 2 for a decade now, just never got into the original. To think that a game that hasn't been updated in 25 years still has creativity and problem solving going on and new metas being discovered....
Just want to point out that Zelot's build was 9 hatch, 9 overlord, 9 pool. Maybe to combat 8 rax?
It's apparently in vogue vs Terran.
I'm so psyched for this ASL season. I know this is a TvZ, but I am really hoping Snow takes it all. He looks unstoppable in recent games
awesome
just pure beauty
thanks

Can't wait for season 17!
Was shocked he didn’t go queen hunting with the valks! Was screaming at my tv!
wow that was amazing
i dont even play starcraft so excuse my ignorance, why aren't valkyrie used as counter to queens?
They don't fire fast enough.
9:50 Why is it relevant that "hold position" is used for the lurkers? They're burrowed.
they cant autoattack when theyre held
What bloodsuckern said. Basically with hold position you can allow the enemy to walk over your lurkers without knowing and you can then order the lurkers to attack when it's too late for them to flee or spread out.
since ally to stop attack is against the rules, hold position lurkers are to stop auto attacking to lure them into bad position.
@@Repetoire What ally? This is one-on-one. I don't follow what you're saying.
Are valks too gas intensive to add in vultureless-mech against mass queen? Or the priority for science vessels is justified by their spells?
Vessels are just better, Valk's big benefit is their ability to deal with clumps of air units, and Queens do not clump up especially when they get their spawn broodlings command. A queen can move in, spawn, and move out before a valk kills them.

Would a full group of valkyrie not be the solution to mass queens??
Damn fine game, sir!
Great game, well done RT.
Nice to see some late game action from zealot!!
Always love seeing mech vs Zerg
I think against heavy goliath, no vulture type mech zerg also needs to go dark swarm so the hydras can fight for a bit longer
Vulkires gettin f'ed up 😂 "cough cough, excuse me" come on arty!!!!
Weirdest thing, I do not remember Queens from SC1 at all and I played this game day 1
wow terran was running the show that you thought at some point was gonna go down
Hey Artosis. Commenting because you told me lol. But just a suggestion of what I want to see. How about casting some of your ladder matches every now and then? Thanks.
Light is sooo strong, halfway through when Zelot wiped all Light's tanks I was certain he will loose, but damn what a skill and commitment. GG!
I thought zelot was going to lose when that happened, all the value he gained was lost in the hydras he sac'd you cant hold up 6 bases and have enough for map control.
nice to see queens but really threw away so many hydras, could've added in some lings when there were no vultures too
what a crazy beaytiful zerg game! Feel the swarm!
The new jungle maps are impressive.
Hey arty, why don't more terran players do this kind of valkyrie rush build? They are not very good against tanks
He parasited some of the tanks, but I didn't see if he parasited the vessels.
Why would you throw your first 2 valks like that lol

Where were the defillers....
Getting hype for ASL. I don't even watch SC2 any longer, but can't get enough of BW 😁
Did they know they were playing each other? Lights name looks recognizable, but Zelot is playing on a bar code 😕
Still wondering why zerg didn't add some defilers... All terran units are ranged.
Amateurs do strategy; professionals do logistics.
If light and flash are sooooooo good why didn’t Blizzard name units after them like Zealot?
Awesome match.
Did light know he was playing zelot? You said this was a ladder game? You kind of made it sound like light picked his build because he knows he is playing zelot. Zelots id is just a barcode from the looks of it
Flying queens? I'm missing something
tryin' ta be helpful for the algorithm or summin' with muh commentin'

Strange that terran stopped producing valks. 6-7 of them could be the end of the queens menace

Yep he lost way too many hydras at least twice. That voided his efficiency against tanks with queens.
I think mass queens is so stylish, but seems not to be very effective, or maybe too hard to pull out
I wish there would be more switch to mech in macro games. Vults with mines, tanks are very strong vs ling, defiler, lulker...
How to be a great terran in scbw?
Flying the queens to die into missile turrets doesn't feel like the right call... waiting until the push comes seems like it would be the play.
Seems like there were enough close engagements where the cost efficiency of cracklings would have cleaned up.
