  • On this next installment of looking at the DH5U (these recordings were done back in March, but now I'm getting back to editing the footage), I take the mechanism out to remove the old grease causing the loading motor to intermittently stall, as well as replace the old capstan belt to restore operation of the high-speed modes.
Heads up, there is no video footage of myself taking the loading motor out and doing the re-greasing; I realized that I had no idea how to do it properly, so all of that was done off-screen so that I could take my time to figure out how to properly dissemble/reassemble the loading motor assembly. I give an audio explanation of how to remove the loading motor out so that it can be serviced.

Part 3? Does the machine work? I have 1 and the audio is messed up. The hdmi audio doesn’t work and the analog audio sounds horrendous. Anything that can be done?

Hi, yes, the machine ended up working nicely; it's now in the home theater as my main player for the format. For a third part, I was going to wait until I bring it back in the shop to recap the digital board; it works very well with what's there now, but it is just preventative maintenance since the SMT caps can and will go bad. Does the HDMI audio not work for both D-VHS and VHS tapes? I know that bad VHS audio on playback through HDMI is a sign that the capacitors on the digital board are in need of replacing.
