Приєднався 18 чер 2020
Welcome to Video Store 64! Here is where I intend on uploading/archiving whatever I come across from the vast land of home video formats! (Preferably stuff not already on UA-cam, as to avoid saturation.) Other than that, I plan on making the occasional tech video--e.g., circuit troubleshooting.
Current capture method is an HDMI capture card capable of 720p60 plugged right into the HDMI out of my Denon A/V receiver. I record my content onto DVD using a Toshiba DVD recorder, then play the burned discs through a Sony BD player (which outputs at 480i for DVDs) and allow my Denon to do the upscaling. This allows me to capture analog media in the original frame rate with no overscan, as well as in high quality.
Always feel free to comment on the videos. I am always open to constructive criticism when it comes to capturing or otherwise getting my info wrong!
Enjoy!

RCA Videodisc employee Bob Huck's Talk at the 2024 CED Workshop
At this year's CED Workshop (held annually on the last weekend of June in Indianapolis, by the by), we had a surprise guest: Bob Huck, who worked in disc production for the Videodisc program. I recorded Josh's presentation as usual (should be up this week) and was about to hit 'Stop', but the moment I saw Bob walking up to take the mic, I knew I had to keep recording! Bob donated two awards that hung in his office for the sales of "Ordinary People" and "Fiddler on the Roof", which are shown here by Chris. Both here and after the presentation, Bob's brain was picked for disc production and care questions (I did not get to go up and introduce myself, as I did not want to add to the swarm of curious minds already surrounding the poor man). We are grateful of Bob's generosity, and thankfully he saw firsthand that the format ended up not being "little noted."

Finally, an update on the Sanyo V-Cord unit! (Head disk swapping and other fun things)
Переглядів 2614 днів тому
This has been on the backburner for months, finally biting the bullet and tackling it head on. The reason for the hesitation: the original heads on this were ALL snapped (not my doing!), meaning I'd have to dig into my stock pile for suitable replacements and basically perform brain surgery on this. Well, the swap ended up being a success! She's still not running 100%, though. First and foremos...
Newest Addition: Sony SL-HF3000 (JPN equivalent to the HF1000 but with linear stereo!)
Переглядів 2914 днів тому
Pretty hype about this score, so I wanted to share it on here. This is the SL-HF3000, which was the Japanese equivalent to the SL-HF1000, but with the major difference that this can do linear stereo (there might be some other differences too, but I wouldn't know what those are). This will be my main player for the format from hereon out. The only thing this needed work on was that the exit guid...
Zenith VP-2000 (F/G chassis) CED player - Troubleshooting a bad Microprocessor
Переглядів 3914 днів тому
Recording from back in March or so. This was a $20 pickup from a town nearby. Stylus is good, but this one has a very peculiar problem that I've not encountered before with the microprocessor. In my adrenaline rush that day, I ended up doing a complete board swap (was easier than desoldering the bad micro), and that fixed the issue. Only thing left is that audio is very low, so that requires do...
Fixed up a pal's Quasar VR-1000 - Playback Motor Belt and FF/REW Idler Tire Discussion
Переглядів 3721 день тому
One of my buddies dropped off some Quasar and U-Matic decks for me to look at, and I'm happy to say that I so far got one of the Quasars up and running! This unit was giving an immediate Auto-Stop any time you tried to play, fast-forward, or rewind. Since the take-up spool felt a little stiff, I lubricated the shaft to the reels and replaced the playback belt (more on that later). Still no impr...
Magnavox commercial from the "Ol' Blue Eyes is Back" 1973 TV special
Переглядів 3421 день тому
Won a lot of 70s-era Sinatra U-Matic tapes off eBay (even picked them up since the seller was only an hour away from me), one of them was of the "Ol' Blue Eyes is Back" special from Nov. 1973, making it the oldest TV broadcast I have! Sadly, the broadcast had the commercials edited out, except for this one. Magnavox sponsored the special, hence why they had a unique ad to air. This was the last...
"That's Hollywood!" episode on Marilyn Monroe w/ commercials (non-content ID)
Переглядів 3121 день тому
At the end of a VX tape containing an Elvis movie, this episode of "That's Hollywood!" details the life and career of Marilyn Monroe. The original upload of this was hit with a content ID during the "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" section, so I just went back and took out that part to get it uploaded on here; you'll likely notice the edit when it happens.
"The $1.98 Beauty Show" episode from '79 (w/ commercials intact)
Переглядів 143Місяць тому
Two episodes of this short-lived show were at the end of the George Burns VX tape, this just being one of those episodes I'll upload the other one later on. This only ran for two years starting in '78, but since it was recorded after the George Burns special, I'm guessing that that means these two episodes were from '79.
George Burns 100th Birthday Party - partially unedited original broadcast from 01/22/1979
Переглядів 77Місяць тому
Found on a VX tape. Even though he turned 83 in 1979, they put on this special since he was "going to be out of town for his 100th birthday." The first few breaks are cut out (meaning small snippets of the special itself are cut), but fortunately the OG recorder later came to his senses and let the rest of the recording go uninterrupted. The Andy Gibb performance has been online, as well as som...
JVC HM-DH5U D-Theater VCR Restoration (Part 2) - Mechanism Overhaul (2nd half is audio explanation)
Переглядів 19Місяць тому
On this next installment of looking at the DH5U (these recordings were done back in March, but now I'm getting back to editing the footage), I take the mechanism out to remove the old grease causing the loading motor to intermittently stall, as well as replace the old capstan belt to restore operation of the high-speed modes. Heads up, there is no video footage of myself taking the loading moto...
CED F/G Chassis Player Fault - B&W Image w/ Ghosting & no Time Display - Troubleshooting and REPAIR
Переглядів 29Місяць тому
Acquired a Sears 274.54740150 CED player from the same antique store that I got Suspicion and the other Princeton titles from two years ago. It of course has its faults, main one being an issue that seems to be cropping up more and more on the F/G players: a B&W image w/ ghosting upon playback and " " on the time display. I show the troubleshooting procedure to isolate and ultimately replace th...
American Heritage Sale at Miller's Outpost ad from early '78
Переглядів 25Місяць тому
Even though this would've been done for President's Day, still pretty fitting to upload it for the holiday today. The audio for the next commercial begins at the end of this one, if you're wondering what that noise at the end is (it's a very impatient commercial, that one).
College U.S.A. Disc #71 - Dentistry (Laserdisc from '90) (FULL Disc)
Переглядів 22Місяць тому
Got ahold of some more College U.S.A. laserdiscs to upload, this being a freebie since it was too scratched to sell. Fortunately, the scratches aren't located on a critical part of the disc, so it was able to play w/o incident. This disc highlights the benefits of careers in dentistry and in dental hygiene, and additionally showcases some dental schools. And since this upload has no overscan, y...

Thanks for posting! I'm disappointed I couldn't make it to the convention this year, hopefully next year!

Thanks for posting!
So glad that you were able to capture and preserve this talk.
I have just bought a brand new SL-2100 from a proxy site for £41.....Brand new and sealed.
We didn't know how good we had it...
So, that's 2 people that retired on ABC Password.
Thanks for preserving this!
so nostalgic
Part 3? Does the machine work? I have 1 and the audio is messed up. The hdmi audio doesn’t work and the analog audio sounds horrendous. Anything that can be done?
I think someone is chopping onions...

It's kind of sad seeing Jack Cassidy here since he would pass away in that house fire just about a year later than the date of this episode.
I've got the book by Lenk but it doesnt have all the cool flow charts like the RCA workshop book. Is this available somewhere or is it unobtainium?
From what I recall, Lenk does include the visual flowcharts in each section, although the color on the OEM workshop manual leaps off the pages. I bought this and some service manuals from Josh Gibson, I do not know where he originally got it from.
Congratulations on the pickup.
Great Video. I'll have that chip at the workshop if you don't want to pull one from an old board. Do they make a 40 pin socket for it?
This is the player where I did a board swap, so I won't be needing the spare chip. I'd have to see about the socket for something of this size.
I wish the chicks at work would use this stuff. It would give me a nice in to ask for their phone numbers.
I’ll order a bunch of those rewind tires as soon as I find out where to get them. Looks a bit tricky to get to them to replace.
Yess my childhood
When will you post the other $1.98 Beauty Show episode you have, Video Store 64?
Gotta put money in first
BattleStar Galactic episode The Living Legend Airdate Sunday Nov 26,1978
George Burns did really reach age 100 in January 1996, he died 2 months later.
This special aired on CBS January 1979 was put in after CBS postponed the premieres of "Flatbush" and "Co-Ed Fever".
I first saw this intro on the vhs tape of Kate Bush' "The whole story" that i bought.
Baby Ruths were better when they were made ny Curtis instead of Nestles.😊
I recall when my family and I would go grocery shopping, I used to always look to see if Madge was on the soap isle selling Palmolive dishwashing liquid.😅
Back in the day my family and I drank as much Wylers as we did Kool Aid. It even tasted better, I wish they would bring it back😢.
This intro is so nostalgic
#1's got to be Teresa Ganzel.
How difficult was it to get stable video and audio out of this format in a transfer?
I've found it's not more difficult than the other tape-based video formats I have. My DVD recorder has terrific video stabilization, so that's why there's no horizontal jittering in the final picture. The occasional slight up-and-down jitter is something I get on other tape formats, depending on tracking; it seems inherent in my rig. I've been very lucky in that almost all tapes I got from the seller of my player are very clean, so I haven't had to stop to de-gunk the head like Oddity Archive described.
Sally said her brother was a race car builder in Indianapolis, as a big race fan I wish I could figure out who that was!
This variant may have been the earlier version of the SelectaVision intro, as the 4-note ending is the unaltered ending to Tomita’s rendition of Promenade I. The album, Pictures at an Exhibition also happened to be released on RCA records so RCA basically had the rights to the music at the time of release of the CED format.

I find it funny that Cheesasaurus Rex's voice actress also does the voice for Sparky from well... The Fairly OddParents
Fairy odd noodles
Update: found this intro on "Sands of Iwo Jima" as well. That one's not a Fox film, which breaks the mold.
I was born in the late fall of 1978. I love the Classic, Clever, Delightful, Entertaining, Excellent, Fun, and Uplifting 1980 Nestle Crunch Commerical and Song!
Crazy to think that these kids in the ad are at least in their Mid to late 30s at this point, man how time flies

Wondering if you figured out whether there’s a switch to have it play just the left or right audio track? I can’t seem to find one on mine except for the headphone jack. Funny since this format used the two tracks more for separate audio than stereo.
No, no such switch on this one or the top loaders I've come across; the audio monitor switches appear to only apply to headphones. When I come across a tape on this format that only has audio on one channel (generally the right channel only like on off-air tapes), I just set that as the one audio channel in editing for ease of listening.
@@VideoStore64 Very weird that they would leave that off. I have a couple tapes with time code noise in one channel so I have to just unplug that one in those cases.
For those of you who want to purchase the shampoo and conditioner, you can order it from the Vermont country store, but I ordered the conditioner and it does not smell like anything. It’s a real letdown, I’m not sure if the shampoo has a great scent.
Does anyone recognize the dude at 36:50? He looks very familiar.
The Memories section on the CED Magic site (where it lists each photo in the slideshow) doesn't have anything on him.
AMAZING DOCUMENTATION!
I love this show
The Best shampoo when i was 7 y.o.
Perfect example of something great that ended up just plain sucking. MTV was the main reason why I bugged my parents for cable (they never relented.) What MTV is now however is one of the main reasons why I DON’T have cable.
I love this hostess snack cake commercial from 1982. Thank you.
Don’t remember this, but this is exactly what’s missing from TV today. Not that I miss watching movies with commercial breaks, but if they had to have them they at least made them fun.
