    Still dont understand why so many call that fake punt the worst play ever. Its not like they were at the 1 yard line and called a pass and lost the Super Bowl.

    • @rmsangel242
      @rmsangel242 8 років тому +6

      Passing on the one yard line does work from time to time

    • @donovanmccat7254
      @donovanmccat7254 8 років тому +2

      sure it does, but losing a super bowl because of it not working when having one of the best rbs in the game is by far a worse play then a fake punt in the middle of a season for a team that didnt make the playoffs

    • @MrBubblecake
      @MrBubblecake 7 років тому +5

      Brady had a pass to edelman from the 1 yd line that same game for a TD and over 60% of passing attempts from the 1 yard line ended in tds over the last 3 seasons. Stop acting like its impossible to pass on the 1 yard line. I dont care who the RB was.

    • @chrisbeatty743
      @chrisbeatty743 6 років тому

      Of course passing from the 1 yard line works but it was at the end of the super bowl as the last play. Marshawn would be much more likely to be able to rush for a yard than a pass to be completed at the edge of the goal line

    • @chrisbeatty743
      @chrisbeatty743 6 років тому

      And if you rewatch the play, marshawn was actually much more open instead of throwing it to a tight end with 3 patriots right in front of him. Marshawn still would've been the better option with a pass

      You didn't hear Pat, Whalen new the play, he read the playbook. The coaches didn't tell him that they were gunna try getting the Pats to come offsides. All Whalen saw in the playbook was to hike it if he felt the QBs hands

      Yeah but he's also never practiced this play before. A play that is built specifically for knowing the ins and outs of the play since it's a mind game built on communication. A very terrible play to put someone on the spot that hasn't ever rehearsed it

    The problem is, this type of play would never work against the patriots. They spend more time and $$ on good special teams players, there would be no reason to sub back in the defense. Try it against the Jets maybe...

    • @jemmitt21
      @jemmitt21 6 років тому

      shockwave68516 the goal was to get too many men on the field. Everyone runs toward the sideline to get the Pats to think they’re getting the punt team on, but the team gets set and if the pats are subbing on then there will probably be too many men on the field. You hike the ball and the penalty gives you a first down

      I high school coach told me that he had done it around 10 times and it worked in about 7 cases.
      BUT this was not a high school game, they were up against an NFL team.
      But desperate times call for desperate measures, I guess.

    • @OuchMyEarballs
      @OuchMyEarballs 7 років тому +10

      It wasn't supposed to work, the ball never should have been snapped. If the Pats were caught with 12 men on the field or were drawn offside then the Colts get a first down. If that doesn't happen the Colts take the 5 yard delay of game penalty. Since the ball was on the Colts 37 yard line a 5 yard penalty here doesn't make a difference to the punter.

  • @bobm9621

  • @FatalPhenom

    Ok I get how the play was supposed to work but something still don't make sense. When the guy who was supposed to be center was injured, why even run the play? Whalen knew the play from the playbook but never practiced it himself. Not only that, what the hell did he think was gonna happen when he snapped it? That's common sense. McAfee's explanation still doesn't make up for how stupid the play was. The Colts are absolutely horrible. If their record gets any worse they might be contenders for a high first round draft pick.

      Space Cowboi Its a low risk, high reward play if it is executed correctly. Losing those 5 yards on a delay of game means nothing because they are punting anyways, but if they catch them in a sub or offside they get the first with good field position.

      I bet it would work once. Only once, but yah - when you dangle that red meat in front of hungry pass rushers and give em a hard count, sometimes their bloodlust will get the better of them. Sounds like they would have to be stupid, but crazed dogs aren't very disciplined when that red meat is *right there* . Once only, though. It's so strange in its setup that it would never work against another team if they've watched any film.

I loved seeing the colts look like a bunch of idiots but the colts fan will turn on their team in a sec, example Peyton Manning getting thrown out of town for that scrub Andrew Luck. Indy is getting what they deserve, go Pats. It takes more than LUCK to beat Tom Brady. Lol
