The only thing she's done is the annual maintanance. The car is always driving, and it just go's and gos. Incredible! I imagine their sales have declined a bit due to the fact that you have more to choose from now. For example the rav4.
At the end of the day hybrids were always considered to be the stepping stone until we got to fully electric cars. Thank you Toyota for what you designed and developed.
I live in the midwest and an all electric vehicle would be useless as an only vehicle. Even at 400 miles between charges that isn't enough. It is not unreallistic here to drive most of a day to reach somewhere. And most of that driving is in the in the middle of nowhere and even the towns that you do find do not have charging stations. Only the largest towns have a charging station and even those are way too slow, you don't have that much time to stop. Maybe one day but I think we will see hydrogen powered cars combined with electric. Or some other low pollution generator/engine with a decent battery and motors.
Batteries fail, but not often at all. Turns out they are pretty sturdy. The batteries are always kept between 40% - to 80% of charge, the charging and discharging process is always very closely monitored by the vehicle. These batteries last a long time, and when they fail, it is about 1k€ to replace. If a turbo on your conventional car fails, that is likely to be more expensive. Transmission or clutch might be even worse. The Toyota/ Lexus hybrids don't have any of that.
Holy.. that averages out to 166 miles per day assuming you had the car for 9 years. What do you do for living? I'm not sure if driving Uber everyday will get 100 miles a day.

@Carl James Sarcasm my good man. CA gas is taxed nearly 50 cents a gallon as of July 2019. Prices are high already and they require seasonal blends that supposedly burn cleaner based on temperature, which gives the oil industry more opportunities to jack up prices. The State looks at the cars clogging the streets and freeways as cash cows 💰🐮 (rather than constituents in need of relief). They know residents are mentally resigned to high and changing prices. They always get ready tax increases for various “reasons” and implement them at will. Residents go about their hamster wheel existences of “happiness” not realizing they are getting fleeced more each day. You’ll see them speak so fervently about high prices, while silently raising taxes. They nearly never back off (expire, recall) taxes either, just instal more. They have more than enough to govern the state, but governance is not the goal. Corrupt they become. Devious they are. Therefore, “smart but crooked”; devious and corrupt. Side note, CA state masters (who long to be masters of the country and the world) stoke the primal fears of residents all day by incessant propaganda to manifest their self-imposed role as savior or deity. Good wise people are shuttered, the masses suffer. Yay, California!
The reason gas prices are so high in California is because there are only two refineries that can make our "Boutique gas". If either one is down for maintenance prices will go up about a buck a gallon. While everywhere else in the nation everything stays the same.
Deuteross you forgot a crucial point too. Lexus couldn’t sell its hybrid only model so they had to cancel it altogether. And the new hybrids aren’t selling. Except for the IS which is doing ok.

The only thing she's done is the annual maintanance. The car is always driving, and it just go's and gos. Incredible! At the end of the day hybrids were always considered to be the stepping stone until we got to fully electric cars. Thank you Toyota for what you designed and developed.
newswars-dotcom Umm... Tesla??
I live in the midwest and an all electric vehicle would be useless as an only vehicle. Even at 400 miles between charges that isn't enough. It is not unreallistic here to drive most of a day to reach somewhere. And most of that driving is in the in the middle of nowhere and even the towns that you do find do not have charging stations. Only the largest towns have a charging station and even those are way too slow, you don't have that much time to stop.
Maybe one day but I think we will see hydrogen powered cars combined with electric. Or some other low pollution generator/engine with a decent battery and motors.

Our family 2011 Prius has done 294,000 miles with just regular maintenance, no repairs. It has saved us an enormous sum at the gas pump too
Aboo Rawat have you ever changed the battery for the electric motors?
Batteries fail, but not often at all. Turns out they are pretty sturdy. The batteries are always kept between 40% - to 80% of charge, the charging and discharging process is always very closely monitored by the vehicle. These batteries last a long time, and when they fail, it is about 1k€ to replace. If a turbo on your conventional car fails, that is likely to be more expensive. Transmission or clutch might be even worse. The Toyota/ Lexus hybrids don't have any of that.

"Gas prices has fallen."
(laughs in California gas prices)
California adds a new tax when gas prices drop. Smart but crooked.
(laughs in German gas prices)
The reason gas prices are so high in California is because there are only two refineries that can make our "Boutique gas". If either one is down for maintenance prices will go up about a buck a gallon. While everywhere else in the nation everything stays the same.
6.25 a gallon in Downt L.A.. We need to go Hydorgen with that price.

@@zhoutorres2677 Hybrids still use gasoline!
2008 Prius here! 297,000 miles and going strong!! Original battery, one tune up, one set of brakes and regular oil changes!!
Prius never failed.
Pepper they may discontinue it. That would be a kind of failure.
@@stevepowsinger733 it's just people are buying more suvs and no one cares about sedans anymore
Yes they do hybrid batteries fail all the time
@@stevepowsinger733 only because its not special- almost all toyotas come with a hybrid option
@@mikixP most of them could last at least 150k miles. Btw battery failing is expected, just like engines get worned out too.
They made them too good. I have a 2010 Prius with 265k miles, original drive train and battery. I'm driving it until it stops!
Jamie Richard Wow.
But those things just don't wanna stop.
So, when the batteries go out? At least you can get refurbished cells and keep driving it
$1500 for a new battery.
@@LouisSubearth Good thing @chrisfix made a video on how to replace a dead Prius battery. I bought an 08 Prius with a dead battery for $1,500, and after replacing the battery myself, I flipped the car and made a $4,000 profit. 💰💰💰

Laughs in Canadian
thatcarguytim blame Canada... Canada has a lot of oil
Canadian oil is dirty and expensive to refine.
That’s why they are buying Saudi oil out east.
Bartonovich52 Canadian oil is not dirty. It’s some of the cleanest, most ethical oil on earth. I’d sooner put Canadian and American oil and refined products than Saudi or Venezuelan oil and products in my car. 🇨🇦🇺🇸 our two nations have the best oil in the world

Lul wut 92 cents a litre, where I live. (Alberta)
I bought a 2005 Prius last week. 145k miles and I love this thing. Averaging 48-52mpg. I’ve put 1,000 miles on it already.
Looking on global sales of hybrids during the last couple of years, I don't see any fall. And Prius is doing not bad as well
I feel that this is only base on sales in the US but the rest of the world the Prius sales are the same way
Michael Jordan yea im from canada and my budget for a car is literally 7-9k $ anything 15k-35k is out of my reach. But price on older model of prius droped alot ! Just like 4k Tvs everything becomes cheaper as time goes on :)
@@gojoeyr it has gone down u dummies
As a owner of 3 Pruis. The 2004 Prius the first battery was replacement was in 2017 with over 300k miles. With 0 problems on those 13 years. Recently a recall, the brake pump, and regenerative braking all replaced for free. I'm not turning back to regular combustion, the minimum level accepted is hybrid.
Hmmm... just bought one and I LOVE IT!
my 2009 has almost 200k miles on it, and I already know I want another one after this one goes
That’s going to be boring, with routine maintenance, you’ll be driving that in a decade :)
@@matthewtymaja3760 In a decade you'll be hard pressed to fine a petrol gas station. They'll mostly be electric charge stations and hydrogen refueling stations.
Edit: The Toyota Mirai is the car to buy
200k on my Prius C model, running great. Never an issue. For my long commute it's great. Average 54mpg daily.
My 2012 Prius C only has 80,000. You been doin some driving.
@@charltonblake9967 I bought it second hand in August 2017, it had 136,000 on it then. My drive one way into work is 44 miles. So yeah, but its a super solid car. I'll buy another for my commuter duties. Also, been great for trips.
"Gas prices fallen" yea sure. Not where I live
Yes agree thank you!
In California some gas station still charge close to $4 a gallon. Places in the west cost are still $3 and up.
$2.90 for premium where i am
In Texas, it dropped less than $2.00/gal at the beginning of summer. Now it's $2.25
Move out of CA.
For commuting it is tough to beat, super reliable well over 120k miles..
LIES. The Prius still rules supreme. There will only be one.

It handles terribly, the braking is terrible, the visibility out of the cockpit is terrible, it's ugly, it's conformist , it doesn't save money , it saves gas if you're driving in traffic which is part of a crap lifestyle
@David Matthew Dispo how am I ' obsessed with super cars? I think they're stupid also. It implies impracticality.
I have a 1980 bmw 320, a 2007 cayman S that I bought for 13,900$! in perfect shape, a 2000 bmw 540 wagon that was also very cheap. I have various other cars and I've never financed a car.
I have plenty of criticism even for standard gt cars like 911s, M3s , Corvette. I wouldn't own any of them.
Until Volvo brought in their S/V/XC 60/90 T8 Twin Engine Plugin Hybrids as well as Volkswagen's plugin Golf GTE. Both have far better comfort and far more practical. Not to mention their boot capacity (or shall I say trunk space) are way bigger! Also they're still safer cars in real life, NOT in crash test labs. Also, their "EV only range" (and yes that includes Volvo XC90 T8) embarrassed Prius big time until Toyota re-designed their new plug-in Prius.
That's not all, Honda Insight beats Prius in performance due to limited EV range / performance boast on the Toyota. Also the price tag of the way cheaper than the Prius. That means you'll need to do lots and lots of driving in order to Prius to pay itself where you pretty much don't need to on the Insight.
@@stephenpavlov8942 Even Honda Insight beats Prius in handling, braking and off course longer battery electric boast. Having said that, I don't like that car either but I rather have the Honda over the Toyota.
Mine has 109k miles and still driving strong!
I had a customer trade in a Prius with over 500k miles!
@@demariushenderson1802 I've seen tons of priuses with over 400K miles...these cars are just soo reliable

What are you talking about falling? They're still everywhere!
And that is why new car sales are down! I see plenty of Gen 1 Priuses as well as 2,3,4! I have one Gen 2 and one Gen 1 lol!

It’s of me giving it to an oil sheiks wifes.
Love my 2015 Prius. I am riding that thing to the ground, then I'm buying a Camry Hybrid. Same MPG and bigger car 👍👍👍
Octavio Trujillo I have friends who bought a 2018 Camry hybrid LE. They’re averaging 46mpg.
Prius V
I just helped a friend buy a 2019 model. This is her third Prius in a row and her first new car. The Prius has been a success by any reasonable measure and it's insanely practical for those who want a practical car. People simply have more options nowadays, including more hybrids within the Toyota lineup. So of course their sales will have risen and then fallen. When Toyota releases their Corolla hatchback as a hybrid, the Prius can drive off into the sunset having accomplished everything it was meant to.
“Gas prices have dropped”
Diesel: am I a joke to you?
Diesel is cheaper in Nevada. It's more expensive there?
Yes diesel, thanks to Tier 4 emission compliance, you are a joke now. Your real world up front investment plus operating cost per mile for whatever new vehicle you are put in is worse than that of any half assed made gasser.
Especially now that manufactures like Ford are rolling out 7.3l Turbo gassers that do just short to f 500 HP @ 1000+ Ft/Lbs of torque while costing $10K less up front and having far lower long term operating cost per mile than you ALL while having about the same or better real world fuel costs per mile numbers too. :(
I remember when diesel used to be 50¢ off the dollar as compared to gas. Kerosene (for high compression engines) was even less than that. Now both diesel and kerosene are insanely higher than corn oil gas. Those days are forever gone!

Thank you federal government for protecting us from a cheaper fuel and arbitrarily inflating costs of emissions systems, causing huge losses in fuel economy, all while benefiting massive conglomerates. Good old government subsidized "Capitalism" at work.
