Just a few notes on the 0-60 test here: I don't think launch control feature was engaged, cold engine won't activate LC; I've noticed that this car performs best with a full tank (93 gas), last but not least-the tranny wasn't switched to S mode..
The biggest selling point and differentiator of this car is that it's actually a full hatchback. Others reviews show the hatch. For me, it combines the storage utility and practicality of a small SUV and the sporty design of a coupe. It's actually a sporty luxury car (like an audi) rather than a sports car like the E90 3 series but that's fine by me. It's also more expensive than the 3 but it comes standard with xenons, sunroof, power hatch, etc which are all options on the 328i so the price difference isn't so great between them.
The biggest selling point is that it looks better. That's it. Half the buyers couldn't give a fuck about the fact that it's a hatch, all they care about is the look
Every BMW with sport ZF gearbox (with paddles) has launch control. Go to Sport Plus and left foot brake right foot full throttle and then bit further until kick-down button is engaged. Engine will be at 3k+ rpm. You will see down right on the display that launch control is active. Now remove left foot and see how that car does under 6 at any altitude. Your launch was well... I do not want to be a hater.
They did an amazing job at making this thing sound as close to a 435i as they could from the inside...you can really hear that fake engine note pumping through the sound system during the interior shots.
Sport + does not turn traction control completely off...it enables Dynamic Traction Control, which limits the traction control system a bit. If you push and hold the traction control button for 10 seconds it will turn off DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) for you.
There really isn't a point dishing out the extra $5,000 for the 6-cylinder model other than exterior sound (since interior fake sound is pretty good), and it is not much quicker, you sacrifice gas mileage, and is more front-heavy (which isn't good for cornering).
That is why I ordered 2018 430i M sport fully loaded 57k instead of 440i almost 65k, I'm not trying to drive fast all the time plus I need to save a godamn gas lol
Yep, I got the 428i gc last year and can't be happier with the car) Added chip, better intake and a muffler for deeper sound, my car is faster than a stock v6 now :)
Ok Roman, that engine is not unique to the Gran Coupe, that's 328i power/engine. What makes it unique is its design differences vs the 328i which you touch on later in the video.
All BMW's that end with a 28 have the 2.0L turbo so it's not unique to that particular car. I don't know why he kept saying that its special for the grand coupe
Brendan A. MacWade I don't think that it's really that expensive ether. If you consider a fully loaded 3 of 5 series or a Lexus GS-F with options this is quite a good consideration. Even a fully loaded Buick LeCrosse comes in close enough in price for this to be something to consider. If you're going to lease and maintenance isn't an issue it gets even better.
Bruce Solomon true, but then again when you look at let's say Japanese or Korean car with that kind of power figures and relatively comfortable ride and all that this car provides (only in a bit worse manners) the price goes down for at least 15K if not more. But, sure, the BMW is better in every aspect.
Love a new BMW review/ video! Roman as always thank you for the great content here on the UA-cam! Must just say though with the new look of these 3 series and how dime-a-dozen they are on the road today it made me grow sour to the car although a nice vehicle it is I just craved a different car BMW delivers once more with the 4 series segment also the new 6 series Gran Coupe which is grown to be one of my favorites! Anyways thanks again and as always I'll bee back for your next video!!!
I'll admit that I do not know anything about BMW's but why is this four-door sedan/hatchback called a coupe? I always thought that a four-door was/is a sedan and a two-door was/is called a coupe.
You are right that a coupe means two doors but this 428i is called a grand coupe. That's what makes it different. Coupe=2 doors, grand coupe=4 doors. Happy to be of help.
LarryC213 The size of the vehicle is the same as the standard 4 series coupe, but with 2 extra doors. The tuning and suspension is also geared the same as the 4 series coupe. Essentially it behaves more like a 2 door than a 4 door. Plus, it's actually a hatchback because the rear door lifts upward and is not just a trunk lid.
undefeated2012 wrong. Coupe comes from the french word cut. It has to do with the body and shape of the car not with how many doors. This is a misconception.
i read some comments saying it's expensive car , i went to bmw showroom in my country recently and i saw the (428i not the m) , its price= 61,000 USD , with navigation and rear camera and other nice features , honestly when i knew that it costs 61000 i was surprised because i expected more than this , they told me it just came out to the audience , it's something new from bmw . i expect after few years , whether they will keep in making this car and then its price will rise or they will stop making it . i think it's reasonable price for bmw brand
Bruce Solomon No. I honestly think white interiors look the best. They're high maintenance but they're great. For me, tan is great but only if there *isn't* an option for white.
NikoBell12 I miss white interiors. My first car was a 1971 Buick LeSabre Convertible with a white interior w/ a blue dashboard, interior panels and carpeting and a baby blue roof. Buick road wheels, F41 suspension and a 455 cu 4 bbl engine. It got 6 mpg around town and 8 on the highway. The hood was so long that I was pulling into a restaurant parking lot once with a sharp decline where there where cars parked on the lower end of the decline. I couldn't see them beyond the hood and had to get out to see how much room I had. There had to be another 60' ahead of the car. That was the third largest car I've ever had.
NikoBell12 I just got one of these in white exterior and two tone light interior like in this video, LOVE IT! Looks so luxurious, only problem is, jean dye transfers onto the white leather :( But a simple leather conditioner gets it right off
That's a good looking car. I've had my eye on the 328i for a while now, but this version just looks so much better. The lack of back seat headroom and higher price make it tough though. You can get a very nice used 328i with low miles for less than $30k now. The 428i hasn't been around long enough to get that cheap yet. This makes me want to wait for it though. Is the trunk a hatch?
goatmonkey2112 Trunk is a hatch yes even though it doesn't look it, thats one of the best improvements over the 3, larger and more practical trunk with motion sensors under the fender so you can open the trunk with a swipe of your foot under the car. Lots of neat little extras like that in the 4 series
Twenty Seven combined on the highway? However I don't think that the problem around the apexes was you fault considering what the 650CSI did to TFL in the snow.
joedogg9836 It was actually the BMW 650i . Old habits die hard, The CSI is an old model. Last year TLF had a group of cars that they'd tested in the snow. The 650i slid out without warning repeatedly. It could have been the tires however it may also have been something intrinsic in the way that this chassis is designed or the steering feedback and I suspect that it might be the reason that Roman was having problems gauging his turn in when going into the apexes on the track with the Gran Coupe.
Tthanks ive been waiting for you to do the GC review. couple of notes, youre driving xdrive variant, and 28i variant. there is also 35i variant that is more traditional for the enthusiasts. also this car starts at 41,000 with destination for the same drivability. not sure if xdrive makes it slower on the track because its heavier. but the rear wheel is good enough for non-snow states drivers.
Just a few notes on the 0-60 test here:
I don't think launch control feature was engaged, cold engine won't activate LC; I've noticed that this car performs best with a full tank (93 gas), last but not least-the tranny wasn't switched to S mode..
Thank you so much for explaining it. Do you happen to know what the real 0-60 is with all of the stuff you mentioned?
Of I remember correctly stock it was 5.5, slightly tuned 4.9.
@@duercos1 Thank you so much Duercos1 👍. i’m really grateful for this info

AlternativeUses adaptive xenons, wider stance, exclusivity
The biggest selling point is that it looks better. That's it. Half the buyers couldn't give a fuck about the fact that it's a hatch, all they care about is the look
think the biggest selling point is that it is every bit as stylish as a coupe but has practicality of 4 doors and a hatch.
DkNy2kX I honestly think people just wanted a lower and sexier 3 series.
You didn't even put the transmission in spot mode

joedogg9836 it's not fake interior sound. That's only in the i8.
Colton Gangl Yeah it is, 2014 and up 328s and 428s have the fake sound. I know because I drive them all the time.
That is why I ordered 2018 430i M sport fully loaded 57k instead of 440i almost 65k, I'm not trying to drive fast all the time plus I need to save a godamn gas lol

The fast lane car.... we test cars where they will be slower
realistic dream car
I don't understand why they always conduct the test at high altitude, which makes the test number useless.
Tiecong Li Because TFL Car and TFL Truck are based in Colorado.

As well as the knes that end in 20.
Expensive, but a lot closer to what a BMW was / should be
I think they're 2 series is the best bmw
Smokey BEAR well if's difficult to say that the 2 series is better than 5 or 6series don't you think. But looking from one aspect it probably is, yes.
Nik Brudar in terms of drive dynamics yes
Brendan A. MacWade I don't think that it's really that expensive ether. If you consider a fully loaded 3 of 5 series or a Lexus GS-F with options this is quite a good consideration. Forgot to mention the hatchback
Isn't the 2.0 just as fast as there 3.0 just 0.1 behind?
No?
is there a big difference between a 420i and the 428i ?
Love a new BMW review/ video! Roman as always thank you for the great content here on the UA-cam!

$57k sticker price? 3 years later they are now $26k on Carmax 😙...
I bought mine 430i with b48 engine for 31k€ 3 years old with 72k km. OVP was about 71k€... so yeah...

is the 4 series reliable? does it last?
White interiors are nice
Ricky Julian Nope! Just did my weekly screen washing and it's a tan variant.
Bruce Solomon No. I honestly think white interiors look the best. They're high maintenance but they're great. For me, tan is great but only if there *isn't* an option for white.

Dual clutch??
Why don't you ever test them from idle, for realistic results. I doubt the majority of owners will be into destroying their gearboxes off lights.
I have the 2015 428i gran coupe, the cars price is 50k. Only problem is the handling isn't as great at high speeds. 😔
I need one of these!
Beautiful
If it's a turbocharged engine,high elevation shouldn't matter.
My 2006 Impala LT has 242hp. 3.9 engine. Why is a 2015 bmw not much faster than my car?
I thought the final difference is that it's a hatchback?
this car is capable of 0-60 in under 5 seconds. It has launch control built in. u will never see its full potential if u dont use the cars features.
It will barely do below 6 seconds from launch on the best day. No way it's getting into 4s range.
Tthanks ive been waiting for you to do the GC review. couple of notes, youre driving xdrive variant, and 28i variant. there is also 35i variant that is more traditional for the enthusiasts.

Yup
Nice
M4 or 435i
***** m4 is way faster and more expensive/higher end. not a fair comparison
I phrased it wrong i meant i only like those 2 cars from bmws range
wrong position of your hands on the steering wheel .. !!
way too much money, imo for a 4 cyl turbo with 240 hp
No offense... but seeing a track test in full auto mode made me cry/laugh...
i hate using the word coupe to describe slick sedans
It's called grand coupe. Grand coupe means 4 doors. Happy to be of help.
undefeated2012 No 'd' as BMW calls their hatchback version a Gran Coupe.
The Fastest BMW on the planet is this car
i bought the 430d. More performance and its a 6 cylinder
Why are these guys always so much slower than everyone. Try brake torquing guy.
im going to brake torque it, guy made up his own lingo for stalling it up on the line lol
Every other review says the steering stinks
+eZlol unless you drive slow
That acceleration test was poorly executed and you should work on your hand work at corners.
I have this car and I LOVE IT
+darvey evans
me too!
+Andres Velasco same
i just dont like the orange speed meter at night :/
darvey evans has it been reliable?
yes it has! I love this car and the sexy look just stands out but I am craving the new 5series or the New Range Rover Velar
A coupe hasn’t got 4 doors 😳 it has 2 doors 🙄 typical Americans can’t even pronounce aluminium correctly 🤣😂🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
German cars are losing driving performance
Good thing FCA will offer Alfa Romeo
Can't wait to have a proper driver's car😀
***** Alfa Romeo looks like a fucking toy car.
Thinking the same thing about German cars
German cars: first choice for trashy people
German cars are still best, my brotha :)
