In the summer of 2021 I had bought a 32ft Erickson and left Bellingham and went up to Alaska on it. With no boating or sailing experience. What an adventure!! See your video makes me long for a boat again and go back up. I learned alot on that trip. Seymor Narrows was no problem. Actually, I had a few very minor problems on the entire trip. Pretty amazing for someone with no experience. Some people told me I shouldn't do it. LOL. Good thing I don't listen to them! I only listen to knowledgeable people who have good relevant advice.
I live in Campbell River and have enjoyed watching your whole series on circumnavigating the whole Island immensely. Incredible adventure, awesome footage, and admirable sailing skills,. Intrepid explorers!

Fun to watch. Very big waves in the current at 4:50 and blowing the channel with explosives too. Nice footage of current from shore with eddy’s. Some nice drone shots with glassy water too. Thanks for sharing.
Gotta luv the Beta 25. Beta did a very good job placing the filters and impeller within easy reach and the manual pump to drain the engine oil is awesome. I run the same motor in my C&C 35. I prefer it over the Yanmar that was in the boat originally. I like how your engine compartment allows access from the top. So much easier to access the motor than most boats of similar vintage. LUCKY !!! I had an impeller break a vane in a Yam 9.9 (pushing a 26' trailersailor)....and it took me a LONG time to get the engine to "spit it out"...after trying a whole bunch of different snake oil remedies I ended up rigging/plumbing a garden hose to the cooling system backwards....after some pressure on, pressure off cycles the piece of rubber came out the way it went in. I sailed that area a lot....but I always used the "back routes" to get to/from Queen Charlotte Strait....avoiding Seymour Narrows and the bottom part of Johnstone Strait.
Very smart to push the impeller pieces out the other way! We had a great passage through Seymour narrows on this trip- we had fair weather and rode the tide all the way up. Thanks for your comment and thanks for watching!
I was born and grew up in Campbell river, Yes " it is a nice little town". I see you were on Maud Island, and you walked across that Causeway to Quadra Island. I've walked that, and I was amazed that the power and pressure of the water actually flows thru the rocks of the Causeway . You can see it on your video!
I'm really crazy about my car and truck overmaintenance so I'll continue that onto my future sailboat ... preventative maintenance is something my Dad taught me .

Even after the rock were blown up A cruise ship got throw into some rocks and had to be repaired in Campbell river . Interesting and dangerous to kayak but good fun to go with the current...
I hadn't heard about that cruise ship getting thrown into the rocks, but I definitely understand how that could happen- that is some serious current through there!

My wife and I are planning a trip up to this area in a year or so. We hope to be able to take our Cascade 27 which has spent time in the San Juan's, but we might opt for a larger boat by then. My first time going thru Seymour was scary after all you hear about it but was no problem, you just have to worry if there's tugs pulling stuff thru there.
Yea going north a big tug going faster than me kept getting closer to the shore and forced me into that little bay after you just go thru, I wasn't taking any chances with hitting the shore so got out of his way!
Great looking engine, I think its a new Beta... Fully support your attitude to ignore the cosmetics (paint and varnish) and focus on the essentials, sails , ground tackle, engine, safety systems, electrical....
Holding is pretty good in Freshwater Bay, although it's a bit rocky. There's a fairly heavy current that rolls through which causes the anchor chain to drag over the rocks... makes it sound like you're dragging, even if the anchor is properly set. We even had a whale come into the bay which was awesome. Would recommend Freshwater as an anchorage.

Forget doing that kinda work in the the foul weather. It's a pretty calm sea but I've been in 4 5 ft swells in the straits before. Shit gets real in seconds.

Make sure you have capacity to do MOSTLY motoring....many around the inside passage call sailboats "Stickboats" because they only ever see bare poles
