Crystal clear water bubbling out from a rock crevasse into a grotto-like pool with lush rainforest just steps from the sea, looking out over our boat in a turquoise mountain-lined fjord!!! This trip was absolutely the highlight of Summer, so stoked to share it with you!
Insidious little vampires! Awesome mate, so glad you’re enjoying them and that you’ve gotten to experience it first hand yourself! Where abouts have you cruised on the coast?!
This awesome … I lived and worked as Hand-logger & Timber Cruising with the Hinke brothers 92 & 93 … hope to take my wife through next year ! Thanks for sharing
Ahoy, I have just discovered your channel. As a sailor and lover of the true outdoors, i.e. the north, your videos are so beautiful. You are both such a great, calm couple in the true spirit of sailing. Considering you both are supposedly fairly new sailors, I am very impressed with your skills, the use of proper terminology, and your ongoing survival skills with the many repairs we all sailors are used to. Great job. Your beautiful shots of the scenery and soft calm narration, is so Zen to watch. I'm going to put aside some time with a coffee and a drink, and binge watch your series soon. Wishing you two fair winds and happiness forever. Skipper Andy,....
Ahoy there Andy! Thank you so much for this nice comment, really made our day! It’s cool to think about how much we’ve learned the past few seasons out here and how far we’ve come. So glad you’re enjoying our videos, hope to continue making them to bring folks like you along with us! Cheers mate!
I am deciding to buy a 41' sailboat by Friday? You are helping me greatly. It's in Canada and plan to sail to Alaska first. I will be single handing her. Blessings
I have been to this place and it is stunning. the whole coastline is full of hidden places that are surreal. I used to work on a vessel that traveled up and down the whole west coast. Untouched wilderness and the cleanest air and water. The wild life is abundant in a healthy ecosystem all around you. I have even seen flying fish in the inside passage. Many Orcas, and with porpoises off the bow, keeping pace with the ship where ever we went. I would like to return in a private boat to spend some time checking out the hot springs. 🙂
So happy you've been here and have experienced this incredible place for yourself! Hope you get to return in your own boat some day! This it the first we've heard of flying fish in these waters. This coast is a dream, such a privilege to get travel around here!
@reneehoward32 … I concur with you on the going back to the beginning of their videos and watching from the beginning. I’ve also become a huge fan of their channel and as soon as I’m back to work I’ll be finding myself as a patreon for the first time ever.
I loved the big tree. I saw some like this off the coast of Tofino when I went with a group of kayakers. When no one else was around I gave a tree a big hug. Joined the group quickly again because the place is known for cougars.
Currently watching this episode 👌🏼. I work in Alberta Canada oilfield, and in another 3-5 years I plan on escaping this lifestyle for a break and live/sail all over the coast of Vancouver! Has always been a goal/dream of mine. Love your videos, love your guys vibes 🤙🏼 keep on keeping on. #living
Hello Allison and James! You got some stunning footage again and what a cool little grotto you were in. I love you have your own natural hot springs right in your backyard That was amazing Looking forward to the “big tree.“. 🌲 James, when is it ever their time to shine for flies? Yuck I say never. I’m so glad that they spared her. She was glorious! Absolutely forest like that. Need to be protected. It looks like some of our redwoods California redwoods. Oh my gosh, those flies are huge! That’s disgusting. They’re not shining now. Are they James?😂😂😂 my gosh what a gorgeous area. James I didn’t realize how blue your eyes are. It really showed up in that last shot. oh my gosh more flies you poor souls. That was a wonderful video. Thank you so much Allison and James. Fantastic editing, and the aerial shots were unbelievable. Thank you so much. I really enjoyed it. Sending love from LIZ in California.🤟🏻💜😎✌🏻🐬⛵️🇺🇸
Yes similar in grandiosity to California's Redwoods! Shame they're nearly all gone although BC recently passed some legislation to hopefully protect what is remaining. Let's see if they follow thru! The flies definitely had their moment, but it didn't last long. Not sure who had the last laugh though.. their cousins swarmed us at the next anchorage. Was that their revenge? haha Thank you for the compliments! So glad you enjoyed this one. Chat soon Liz!
Stunning scenery and fantastic camera work!!! Bella Coola was not on my list of cruising destinations but clearly it should be 😀. Thanks for the great story telling!👍
A ❤ video made possible by an amazing unspoilt part of our planet. Your enjoyment can be felt by the viewer. Well presented. Thanks for sharing with subscribers. 😊
It’s still hanging in there! Would be nice to see a transition away from resource extraction in these parts, it’s really a incredibly unique and special place. Thank you for writing, it means a lot, cheers!!
The prawns up here are definitely different to the ones on the hawkesbury river! You might like them! Hope you get to see the trees and water up here some days soon!-J
Good for you guys! Thank you so much for posting your travels along the coast and sharing your memories. You've really helped motivate me to go. My boat is also envious. What kind and length of boat do you have? I'm truly grateful to you both. In addition to sailing, you have a real talent for narration and video skills. Crazy magical drone filming as well. truly beautiful. thank you
Thank you so much for your kind words!! That really means a lot. Thrilled our vids have helped to sparked some magic for you! Where abouts are you hoping to set sail?! Our Uintah is a 30ft Catalina Tall Rig
Such an amazing place. We found hot springs while in New Caledonia but not as amazing as that spot. I remember the NZ fiords and the relentless attack of ‘no seeums’. The constant battle of deciding whether to anchor where it’s windy or in a safe little nook where the mosquitos were an issue. Again superb video and storytelling. Love you
Beautiful! We also visited some in NZ remember? Great Barrier island I think?! The turquoise-glacial water def made this one unique! Also no people because it's pretty out there/difficult to get to. Oo yes I remember you telling us all about those little vampires and having to cover every part of your body before venturing out, that sounded awful! No seeums are definitely worse than these big biting horseflies, at least you can see and kill these pretty easily!
Sailed the Inside meself and wish I'd known about these hot springs! What a fantastic spot! You've experienced a bit of Paradise there. Thanks for these great vids.
There are at least nine of these on the coast, that we know of, that you should be able to get to by boat! Definitely a slice of pacific northwest paradise! Thank you for coming along with us, cheers!
travelled from Bella Coola to Bella Bella many times but never travelled down the South Bentick Arm. You are giving me views i have not yet seen. No place like it. Look forward to seeing some familiar landscapes. Thank you. Be safe
Awe, so glad to give that to you! It is one of the most beautiful places we’ve ever been. Hope these incredible areas will be protected so folks can enjoy them in future. Thanks so much for writing, we love hearing from folks on the other end, cheers!
Ahoy SV Puffin! Incredible place, can't recommend it enough. So glad you'll get to experience it!! Awe I know, aren't those little surf scooter's sweet? Thanks so much guys, cheers!
hahah yes but first, coffee☝️ It was an earrrly morning start to get out there before the inflow winds kicked up! We learned pretty quick that you do not want to be battling wind on the nose up there, which is what we ended up doing trying to get out..😅
haha i think we did too! Awe yeah it's hard to grow a small channel in the UA-cam sphere. Every bit helps, so thank you for watching & commenting! We're really enjoying creating the vids & hope to be able to keep it up!
Conserve love and protect nature. Unless it annoys you then kill it. 😂 Just pulling your legs a little. Love the channel and the way that you produce it! Should be one of the top sailing channels on UA-cam.
Hahah you’re not wrong, bugs are beings to! But hey if these flies were endangered thousand year old giants I’d probably think twice before squashing them! Actually they’d probably squash us first 😅 Awe thanks for that, really stoked you’re enjoying the channel mate, cheers!
Hi A&J! Another spectacular video! Beautiful! ...Except for the flies... 😔 We've experienced black flies on canoe trips to Canada. Seems like they're only around certain times of the day though. Gotta take the bad with the good I guess. We're East coast/Chesapeake Bay sailors, but I wish there was a canal across the US so we could come experience BC like you guys do! One comment about putting the outboard motor on the Dingy... You should tie a line on it incase it gets away from you! Recovering the Outboard from 40 feet of water would be impossible I think. Better to be safe than sorry! Looking forward to your next vid! 🙂
Thanks Guy! Yes they seem to be worse during the settled parts of the day (no wind) and are worse in the more protected anchorages. We also learned they are attracted to dark colors so I guess our navy cushions where obsessively enticing for them! That's awesome, you're in a real sailing hub! Nice community there I imagine?! Yes we use to tie a line to it when we first started this maneuver, I guess we're feeling a little too confident now😅
@AllisonandJamesSailing You are very welcome, well deserved. I am a sailor too actually. I'm a Kiwi but I live in Tasmania. I recently sailed my Duncanson 29 back across the bass straight. I was just thinking about doing a recreational filming coarse so I can save memories for my family. PS I am thinking of buying a boat in Chesapeake and going up to Nova Scotia and then across the Atlantic. Sounds like there is plenty to see. Anyway great work and Best regards Bonesy.
Amazing video..... the flies.......I believe are a type of Horsefly, Canadian Blk Flies are much smaller and come in great swarms, you find them mostly in Alberta, Sask., Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.
Yes they are horseflies! Relentless little buggers, they can fly pretty far from shore so they continue to harass you even at sea! Apparently they’re attracted to dark colors so our cockpit cushions were a dazzlingly irresistible
North is calling!! That’s so awesome! Good for you 👏🏽 How was the West Coast of the island? We’re keen to come down that way eventually. Few years out..
Your black flies remind me of years ago owning a 20ft O'day day sailer and enjoying the back waters of the New Jersey coast. Nothing like the joys of the PINE BARREN AIRFORCE!!! Those green heads would take no prisoners. It's rumored that even the mosquitoes in NJ have landing lights. -Curt
Awesome, thanks for the recommendation! Started reading that a while back but didn’t get a chance to finish it, will pick it up again! 🪰Guess thats a small price to pay for being in absolute paradise hey? What’s good without the bad 😅 Cheers mate!
Love the video's ,,, got the corvid and flu shot here in James Bay Victoria so should be good for a while . Looking forward to sailing on a J 34 named Balderdash in March 2024 . Love shooting vidio and editing on Davinci Resolve free .
Yes, very similar to NZ’s fjordland, so beautiful! I enjoyed hiking around there a few years ago, loved the hut system! Difference being that NZ Fiordland is a protected park area yeah? This incredible area of BC is unfortunately not, although it should be! It would be nice to see Canada make a move away from heavy resource extraction towards a more sustainable eco-tourism model like NZ has done
Wow, what an amazing spot. And the Tallheo hot springs! How idyllic is that?! I've seen one other video online that showed people in that hot spring but they never named it. Helped that you did because now it's marked on my charts. When you get further north, there are two hot springs that are a must: Baranof Warm Springs and Tenakee Hot Springs. Both are a bit developed and are getting overrun by 'tourists' (or 'tourons', a mix of morons and tourists) as we locals call them) but still worth the visit. Baranof has soaking tubs just up the main ramp, and then the boardwalk goes into the woods and at a 1/4 mile, there's a sign and trail to the natural hot springs down next to the raging Baranof river. An amazing spot I've visited like 15 times in 30 years! Tenakee is further north from there and it has a small town next to it with no cars and a dirt road from the harbor to 'downtown', where some small shops and restaurants are located, as is the soaking bath house. Baranof has a history behind it, as do most hot springs along the Inside Passage. coastview.org/2021/06/21/baranof-warm-springs-baranof-island/ Also, some local friends of mine put together this good video about Baranof: ua-cam.com/video/FTNwDdpCMqA/v-deo.html I first visited Baranof in 1990, when the old quonset hut bath houses were still standing, but they fell down shortly after that, and I've been back there just about every other year. If you're going to visit there, plan to stay 2-3 days.
Thanks for the resources! We're planning on hitting up as many hot springs as we can on our way north! Hope you make it to Tallheo, it's such a beautiful spot!
You guys have great videos. You should cut and paste a Lat/Long for people wanting to explore your locations to save on Navionics. What’s the Lat/Long on the hot spring? Thanks.
We had this conversation with a few rock climbers recently. Most climbing gear isn’t designed to cary the repeated shock loading that a stern tie would create. Eventually the cam would fail and pull out of the rock, likely at the most unassuming time. It’s an interesting idea though!
It would be possible to do a ‘med mooring’ but it would put you beam on to the swell/wind. If you were tied up in a med mooring and the wind picked up and your anchor dragged I would think your end up pivoting off the stern ties and it wouldn’t be long before you end up on the rocks. It’s really not an appropriate place to be anchored in bad conditions, larso cove is a really well protected gunkhole that’s only a couple nm alway. When the wind rips down south bentnick arm it gets really spicy very quickly!
The place was used by the nuxalk for generations its a sacred area we used for healing our sacred laws is that no alcohol is allowed in the pool it is a disgrace to my village .
Sincerest apologies if this was offensive to you. There are no signs or information that we found prohibiting alcohol so we were unaware. There were daily tour groups (local) coming through who were also consuming alcohol in the pools so we assumed all was fine.
Actually that’s not accurate. Less than three per cent of high productivity old-growth forests - the forests with the biggest trees and the richest biodiversity - are still standing today. ~35,000 hectares of forest with the largest, most productive old-growth trees - areas where trees are expected to grow over 25 metres tall in 50 years - remain in B.C.
@@AllisonandJamesSailing more old growth has been perserved in the last few years than ever before more than half are now protected permanently its compleatly mis leading to claim all old growth is threatened in bc not close to perfect but progress continues hard work to balance the interest groups of all parties involved is not advanced by outside influences much.thats an observation not an accusation.

what an epic gem of a Hotspring! wow.

Absolutely Surreal... And beer holders!!! A slice of heaven.
Beer holders are sublime! Thanks for checking out the vid! Hope you’re reading this as you shred the white fluffy stuff 🤙🏼
I love your adventures and well done videos- you guys are awesome. I love how Canada has managed even the most remotes spots for human usage.
awh, thank you so much! Could easily spend a lifetime cruising the remote coastline of Canada, so beautiful!
Awesome place to strip down and relax and be quenched by the beauty!
No place better! Enjoyed a ten hour marathon soak the day we arrived, stayed in for the full moon rising over the inlet. Was incredible!
Currently watching this episode 👌🏼.

Wow! You are correct, it is verry beautiful in British Columbia. I love the mountains. My heart longs to live in mountain country.

The best hot springs on the coast is always the one that you are in.

Always gotta take the good with the bad hey? I guess one doesn't really exist without the other! Thank you, cheers Colleen!
The best of all worlds, eating salmon, soaking in hot springs within a beautiful wilderness, yet no bears while you eat and sleep on your sailboat!
Agreed, it really is the best!!! We can die happy now.
But not at the paws of bears.. because we are safe & sound sleeping on the boat ;)

Also, some local friends of mine put together this good video about Baranof:

I first visited Baranof in 1990, when the old quonset hut bath houses were still standing, but they fell down shortly after that, and I've been back there just about every other year.
Thanks.
Thank you, glad you think so!
We’ve started adding Lat & Longs to later vids. Tallheo Hot Springs

Cheers!
I hope the cover picture for bating works well :) Thank you for the video anyway!
Bathing suits work great for bathing, cheers!
Another great video; anticipation for my own adventures! What drone do you use?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! We’re flying a Mavic Mini (sailing shots- less afraid to sink it) and Mavic Air 2 for the rest!
I've always wondered why boats up there don't tie up to the rock faces using chocks or spring loaded cams..
We had this conversation with a few rock climbers recently. Most climbing gear isn’t designed to cary the repeated shock loading that a stern tie would create. Eventually the cam would fail and pull out of the rock, likely at the most unassuming time. It’s an interesting idea though!
Awesome video! You guys are great. What drone do you use?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! We’re currently flying a Mavic Mini (sailing shots - less afraid to sink it) and Mavic Air 2 for the rest
Could you do a med mooring type of anchoring if you had to in bad conditions?
It would be possible to do a ‘med mooring’ but it would put you beam on to the swell/wind. If you were tied up in a med mooring and the wind picked up and your anchor dragged I would think your end up pivoting off the stern ties and it wouldn’t be long before you end up on the rocks. It’s really not an appropriate place to be anchored in bad conditions, larso cove is a really well protected gunkhole that’s only a couple nm alway. When the wind rips down south bentnick arm it gets really spicy very quickly!
Is there a road to get there, or do you have to have a boat?
There is no road to the springs! Boat access only :)
There use to be a logging road to the big cedar tree but I believe it is now deactivated?
🤠👍
yeehaw! Cheers friend!
Thank you, beautiful beyond words. But no, I can’t do black flies, they are my kryptonite, so disgusting.
Agreed, there really are no words for this place! Shame all the protected bays come with black flies, our solution was to just keep on sailing lol
🗳️💙⛵🌎😎👍
Thanks for watching, cheers!
Scourge of the north flies mosquitoes and noseeums eating you literally
Heaps of flies though, your right!
There's lots of big trees in bc not really true they're all gone
@@AllisonandJamesSailing I live in powell river so have observed this most of my life.
I have been in the forest industry for 45 years. There are still big trees out there. I have personally seen them.
