    Alfy, Andy here. You make me homesick. I lived in Campbell River and sailed a lot there too. But I never went up North from there. I am considering earnestly, to sail from Spain not to New Zealand but to beautyful B.C. again and up North to you're area. I have never found another place like the large B.C. Coast. I always tell my Swiss Familiy and Friends, that there, the Forrest grows right down to the Ocean and that you can see Wildlife in such a way that we Europeans and Immigrants, cannot speak highly enough from it. Thank you very much, for your Videos, they bring me home again. Cheers Andy

    Awesome video and very helpful info! We are new owners of an ‘81 C&C 34 based in Comox. I’m envious of your extra overhead hatch, opening porthole in the head and electric windlass:-) I’m going to watch your video on maintenance next.
    Hope to see you out there!

    • @lifeislikesailing
      @lifeislikesailing  5 років тому

      Congrats on the new boat! Yes is has been nice to have that opening hatch in the head and I spent a lot of years hauling that anchor before the windlass install. So glad I made that upgrade, it has been a game changer for cruising! Always nice when C&C 34s get to meet so I'll keep a watch for you. :)

    Beauty video eh. I retired in October and have been travelling the canals of England vicariously via UA-cam. One of the Tubers recommended your site. I've passed this one on to an Aussie couple, former narrowboaters that are now sailing from Panama to Alaska. Their Vlog is "life in a nutshell". Also, I liked your video about the VRC. I played Rugby for the San Francisco Rugby Club for 28 years. We had a traditional tour to play the VRC from the 70's through the 90's. We would go up on Memorial Weekend (U.S.) and they would come down to SF in November (Victoria Day?). Anyway, it was nice to get some history on the VRC. Cheers. P.S. My great grandfather was from outside St. Claire, Ontario before immigrating the U.S. (Whoo-Hoo).

    • @lifeislikesailing
      @lifeislikesailing  6 років тому

      Thank you and so glad you have found the channel! That is great that you are familiar with VRC, it is such a great club to be part of and although I ma not in Vancouver at the moment, I have kept my membership there. I know that VRC has a long history of rugby and great to hear about your involvement with that. :) I'll check out that Aussie couple's channel, thanks for that info!

    In my youth My father owned a couple of commercial salmon trawlers. I got to experience most of the coast we never did the inside passage instead did the run in the open over the Goose Island bank (that's where the fish where). For whatever reason a lot of sailors avoid the west coast of Vancouver Island and the Haida Gwaii. Too bad as these where the most memorable places I have ever been.

    • @lifeislikesailing

    • @jmo7783
      @jmo7783 6 років тому

      Clifford Davies thats what I was wondering,,, the videos show hes always on an inside passage motoring. Maybe he camcords mostly when motoring

    • @lifeislikesailing
      @lifeislikesailing  6 років тому +2

      Thank you! Unfortunately I have sailed less since being in this area mostly due to the amount of time off I have been able to get vs. the large distances I have to travel to show you all the amazing places around here. Although the films don't always accurately show the realities of sailing vs. motoring I would say about 30% to 40% is spent under sail. When I get more time off to do these trips I'll definitely be doing less motoring and just take more time to get places. :)

    Have you ever visited Point Roberts (south of Tsawwassen)? Looks like a great little marina there.

    Never been but looks a fantastic place to own a boat with all those islands & inlets to explore, if you don't mind the cold that is. It reminds me of a massive version of Scotland to look at but it is on a similar lateral line so I suppose their will be similarities. Do you cruise all year round? Over here in the east UK most have their boats out of the water now til April. I try to get out regularly in the winter. As I often say to some what's winter to us is normal to others!

      Yes, we can cruise here year round. A truly amazing place to cruise as well!

    Thanks for the video! Can you tell me how to find the resource you used for recommended anchorages? That's definitely something I want guidance on I think. Ive been up and down the whole coast many times commercial fishing and not that I bought a sailboat, I plan to keep doing it but for pleasure from now on!

      Glad you enjoyed it. Good books are the Sailing Directions for the BC Coast. I think there are 4 volumes. Great to hear you want to keep enjoying the coast on your own boat now! :)

    Nice video. Can you describe the portion of your time in these waters that you are under sail vs power? Are you ever in a situation that you are pointing?

    Great vid Alfy! Thx for the tips. I plan to sail the inside passage next summer. Im wondering who made your enclosure?, roughly how old is it, how long you expect to last? How much was it and are windows polycarbonate ?also, what length of all chain rode would you recommend for a 37 foot sailboat for this journey? Thxxxx!

    • @lifeislikesailing
      @lifeislikesailing  6 років тому

      Thank you! Great that you plan to take the Inside Passage! The enclosure came with the boat when I purchased it. It is approximately 11-13 years old now I think. I have 75ft of chain and 325ft of rope, but you could probably be ok with 50ft of chain and 250ft of rope. I went a little extra with both for a little extra insurance. :)

    Hi there ,.
    Great video , I plan to come to vancouver sometime in August and I am previously a vancouver resident . Do you provide ride along experience for a fee ? Would I be able to sail with you if you are going out for few days sailing around BC from vancouver ?

    • @lifeislikesailing
      @lifeislikesailing  3 роки тому

      Thank you and glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately we don't do any charter type services with our boat, but there are some companies in Vancouver that do. :)

      @@lifeislikesailing thanks for your response. I have found one or two people who offer 2-3 hour sail experiences , but I am looking to stay on board for 3-6 days ans experience living on board for a short period .. do you know anyone or company that offers that? There are many such offers in Greece and Europe, but I have not found one in vancouver or BC ....
