It’s the first time I’ve seen something other than a commercial airliner, and this is just cool!
The Cessna 208B IS a commercial airliner - just not a jet .
@@ksbear2 Thank you. I’m no plane expert as you can tell.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one my friend. I absolutely love taking flights like this. The smaller and more unique the better as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand. Most of the viewers on my channel here don't see it that way haha. The bigger the plane and the longer the flight, generally, the better the video performs. And as much as I'd love to just do whatever I fancied the most, as the person running this channel you'd think I would, but I have to make enough off the ads to keep buying new tickets, so I can keep posting content. And frankly, flights like this do very poorly where viewership is concerned. Which is kind of crazy considering I'd say this is probably one of the best thumbnails pictures I've ever had. This video is performing very poorly compared to other recent videos. Broadly speaking, most viewers aren't as interested in the small planes like this. So, anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it, because I love making videos like this one.
Also as KsBear2 mentioned, this was technically a commercial flight still, but definitely not in the same sense as what I usually post. So, I understand what you mean with that comment. Flying Mokulele is very different than a Hawaiian or Southwest inter-island flight. Only 9 seats, no flight attendant, no TSA security, you just show up 20 minutes before your flight, hop on, and go. So, without boring you with too many FAA regulations. Most of the US airlines operate under Federal Aviation Regulation part 121 as scheduled air carriers. American, Delta, Untied, Southwest, etc. Mokulele and other airlines like Cape Air, Southern Airways Express, Denver Air Connection, etc. operate under FAR part 135. Part 135 is for small charter, commuter and on-demand operations. It allows them to operate commercial flights outside of the more strict part 121 standards and it allows them to hire pilots with less total hours. However, they're limited to a very small number of passengers. I hope to be able to share more experiences like this in the future!
Rare moment indeed…with no clouds touching the mountain ranges behind Honolulu!
Fantastic low-altitude views! Close-up looks into Aliamanu crater, and a great illustration of how humans will settle on any relatively flat, hard surface. Loved it!
Actually Diamond Head is completely out of view in this flight path. We saw Koko Head at 17:28 and Aliamanu crater at 23:00
@@aaronseymour2135 I stand corrected. Thanks for the info!
Well, I certainly have no complaints about the scenery on that short but sweet flight. ;) Honestly, I was kinda surprised to see your Cessna cross the path of that plane landing on 08L (24:13). You then loop around, land and (I think) cross 08L again. I assume that the other plane had already landed and cleared 08L. Interesting. I didn't think that ATC would cut it that close.
I too found that interesting. I'd never flown this approach before, so this was all new to me. The other time I flew into HNL on Mokulele, several years ago, the weather was considerably worse, and we took a completely different approach. So don't quote me on this next part, as it's been a long time since I took one ATC class in college, and my flying knowledge of this is limited to my private pilots license. But... There is the "visual separation" practice that can be used by ATC and pilots if the weather is good and conditions allow. There are FAA separation minimums, but I think those can e be discarded if the pilots and ATC can clearly keep "visual separation." Again, I could be remembering all of this completely wrong, and perhaps a commercial pilot or air traffic controller can chime in, but I think I'm at least on the right trail here. It's likely the Mokulele and Hawaiian flights were given the traffic alerts, both reported each other in sight, and obviously the controllers could see both, so it allows them to tighten things up.
Great perspectives coming into land... angles you don't normally see when you're coming-in via a jet.
From Molokai! Very nice!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!
great views of Hawaii...impressive...
Will be flying this airline in april, cant wait
Now that’s something you don’t see everyday. Very cool.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching my friend!
my grandma worked for this airline. everyone is amazing 🕊🕊
Thanks for watching my friend!
Something different but still cool.
Can't beat the views, that's for sure!
Beautiful
Thanks my friend!
Very exotic and rare content you'll ever post! I enjoyed that!
I'm glad you enjoyed it my friend!
The best. Thanks!
Wow! Totally speechless from your amazing awesome video. Really loved this! 👍👍👍
Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed this one!
I thought he was going to take off on the taxi way. 😂😂
This was super…..something different! Great flight and scenery. Thanks.
Fun and beautiful vid! Thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nice views. Never flew Mokulele. Can see my house at 22:50!
Did you see my waving? haha. Thanks for watching my friend!
Fantastic! Especially for someone who grew up in Hawaii. Thank you. 😃
Glad you enjoyed it!
So romantic to fly low under the wing!
WOWOWOWOWOW!!!!! What amazing views!!! Wish Hawaii weren't so darn expensive, otherwise I'd visit it.
I'm glad you enjoyed this one my friend. As we've discussed before, Hawaii is well worth a visit at least once. Mokulele is probably the best island hopper to fly if you're looking for a good view, as is evident from this video.
I guess the clearances were ok, but it seemed pretty uncomfortable seeing your plane turn in front of the other aircraft around 24:15.
Next stop,Joplin,er....Honolulu! LOL! I'm sure you'd go insane if you had to fly home in this Cessna! Imagine the number of fuel stops to Missouri! Guessing top altitude was roughly 5000',no pressurization? Loving that cockpit door! Bulletproof and secure! :) How many routes does Mokulele have? This is literally an ETOPS plane "Engine Turning Or Passengers Swimming"! Do you have to clear TSA at such a small airport? Where did connect to?
You're correct. No pressurization. I'm not sure what our final altitude was, but it couldn't have been much more than 5,000, if that. Mokulele offers around 10 routes throughout Hawaii and they're currently the only airline serving the two smaller inhabited islands of Molokai and Lanai. Since the aircraft have only 9 seats, they do not fall under the TSA's view. They operated under a completely different operating certificate as the major airlines, so no TSA is required. That said, if you're flying to HNL to connect onto another fight, best give yourself a few hours to connect as you'll have to clear TSA once you arrive in Honolulu. The Mokulele terminal is completely separate from the main terminals at HNL and a complementary shuttle is provided for passengers with connections.
This is small. but not too small. its cozy.
I'd call the Cessna 150's 172's and Piper Cherokee's I learned to fly in small haha. Cozy is a good word for the C208 haha. Thanks for watching!
bros taxiing like southwest
Yeah, just a wee bit different than flying in a Boeing-777 but still cool!!!
Just a bit haha. I actually LOVE taking flights like this. The smaller and more unique the better for me. Now, most of my viewers tend to lean the other way though haha. The bigger the plane and longer the flight the more views it gets. But, I have to indulge my love of small planes every now and then haha.
This reminds me of Cape Air in their Cessna 402Cs. I never flew with Cape Air, only worked for them. Seems like 208s and 402s are about the same size.
They're roughly the same size, yes. The C208 is actually bigger even though it has only one engine. Of course, the turboprop engine on the 208 allows for that over the two piston engines on the 402's. They both hold 8 or 9 people though. The 208 gas about 1,000 lbs more payload capacity than the 402, again despite having only one engine. Just shows how much more powerful a turboprop is.
Excelente video me encantó
Great fly! How often you fly out with non-Boeing or Airbus plane like this?
As much as I can. I absolutely love taking flights like this. The smaller and more unique the better as far as I'm concerned. On the other hand. My flight school is partners with this airline. Medical exam must have no limitations to get in this airline
Thanks for watching my friend!
@@sla31 your welcome
Would love to take a flight to Moloka’i from Maui! Was it bumpy?
It is a little more bumpy on these flights since they are small and fly lower, but it’s not too bad.
Hmm... no view of the black Converse shoes. Must have been wearing flip-flops. LOL
Haha, actually I was wearing my trademark shoes, but... As if often the case with these small flights, there isn't as much.... What's the word.... There isn't as much regimentation. It's often quite laid back. No security, no flight attendant, no rules about where your bags have to be, etc. So, my bag was literally on my feet because it didn't fit under the seat, and the flight crew was starting the engines within a minute of us all being onboard. So, there wasn't much time to get those shots ether. Sometimes, I have to leave the best shot out to get the flight hahaha.
So do they shuttle you to the main terminal?
Yes, there is a free shuttle that runs between the Mokulele terminal and the other main terminals. Of course, on Mokulele you don’t go through security. So if you are connecting to another airline, you still have to clear security once you get to the other terminals.
U have landing 4L right
Yes, they usually land on the shorter 4L
Mooi
Greetings from the Netherlands
They straight up just have car seats in that plane
Haha. They're pretty tight, but for a short flight it's not too bad. You can't beat the views, that's for sure!
@@sla31 yeah, no kidding! I would love to take a flight like that
Usually in March, the landscape is quite green (it's normally the wettest month in Honolulu), but I've never seen the higher terrain on Oahu look so dry. I know pretty much all of Hawaii is currently in a drought, but I don't know what the official status was in March.
Nothing complicated with the airport
Isn't that the truth. Just show up, no security, get on, and fly. Thanks for watching!
I don't think I'll fly on Mokulele
Well that’s certainly your purgative.
