  • Why fly direct when you can stop on many islands along the way? This video is a compilation of my recent Hawaiian island-hopping adventure on a Mokulele Airlines Cessna 208 from HNL to MKK, OGG, and KOA. Grab your barf bag and let's go flying!

    This is my kind of flying. Great report as always - love seeing these niche airlines and routes get proper treatment on UA-cam!

      Thanks Paul - I will admit that this kind of flying is a bit out of my comfort zone (lol), but it was a neat experience that I'll remember forever. This would be fun to do again in better weather!

    It wouldn't matter if you had flown on a larger aircraft. bad weather will bounce an aircraft around. Besides, you had a spectacular view those flying above you NEVER saw.

      I agree, it was definitely a nice experience. I'm actually getting tempted to do it again in better weather.

    Awesome video, thanks for sharing! I was on these flights for Fourth of July weekend and this definitely captures the experience so it's very nostalgic. However, the turbulence coming back from Maui to Honolulu scared the crap out of me haha

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому

      Thanks! These flights are a lot of fun, aren't they? And yes, the turbulence can get gnarly at times. Did you feel sick at all? I'm not normally prone to motion sickness in airplanes, but I was just about to lose it on the OGG-KOA leg.

      My flight to Molokai from Honolulu was really rough, though I thought it was actually pretty fun

    I'm very surprised you have never flown them from LAX on their essential air service route. Its pretty awesome.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому

      Whoa! I had no idea Mokulele has flights from LAX! I had to Google it, but yeah, you are right. That's pretty amazing actually - I never would have expected it.

      Its definitely a Unique thing for them to fly right ! I love all those weird essential air service routes.

    HI SAN spotter im gonna fly on this airline for next month froom HONOLULU TO OGG
    My question
    Do i have to pay for any seat??

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  6 років тому +5

      Hi Ivan! No, you don’t have to pay for a seat assignment - they give it to you at random at the gate. You could probably ask the gate agent for specific seat if there’s one that you want though. Have a great flight!

  • @hawaiifiles

    This is a nice and somewhat dramatic video. But a 3 segment flight HNL to KOA is more expensive than a direct flight on Hawaiian or Island Air to the same place in less time?

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому +4

      You are correct - it's not as fast (and cheap) as a nonstop Hawaiian or Island Air flight. But these Mokulele flights are neat because they fly slow and low, offering amazing views that you normally wouldn't see on a bigger airliner. It's definitely a niche product, and not for everyone.

    • @hawaiifiles
      @hawaiifiles 7 років тому

      SANspotter Yes I live in Honolulu and frequently fly to the Big Island. I'm price sensitive so definitely always take a direct flight.
      I would fly Mokulele on a single segment flight like HNL to MKK or OGG to MUE.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому

      You should definitely give it a try - it's not as comfortable as a direct flight on Hawaiian or Island Air, but it is a lot more fun.

    Is it possible u could ask them for a certain seat?

  • @neosamurai5374

    After watching your video I'm booking HNL-MKK-OGG for the family in September with Mokulele. Thankyou for the inspiration!
    What time did you depart HNL?

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому

      I'm glad this video helped inspire you to book the trip! Scheduled departure time out of HNL was 8:30am(ish), but the flight I was on was delayed slightly due to bad weather. You are really going to enjoy it!

    • @neosamurai5374
      @neosamurai5374 7 років тому

      There's a 6:00am flight (HNL/MKK) - 7:00am (MKK/OGG) - do you think in September this would be too early as far as lighting goes to see the cliffs clearly? (Assuming clouds, weather and flight route work in our favour too)

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  7 років тому

      If it's clear, you should be able to see everything clearly since these planes fly so low. Sunrise is about 6:20am (ish) that time of year if I recall correctly, so it might possibly be an amazing view of the sunrise too! But you never know with the weather...

    • @neosamurai5374
      @neosamurai5374 7 років тому

      Hi SANSpotter - we're back! We flew HNL-MKK-OGG on Mokulele with a ~8:20am Tuesday departure. Weather was fine with some scattered cloud at about 4000ft. Slightly bumpy over west Molokai even at that early hour -- my wife and kids said it was REALLY bumpy! (Soft drama queens) The sea cliffs of Molokai were outstanding! Thanks for the inspirational video that made me change our plans and book this. I'd definitely do it again but leave the family at the HAL counter in HNL!

    What was the explanation if why the flights might have been cnxd and how was it resolved. The whole beginning of this video could / should have been left out. Wouldn't have changed this video, so you might as well tell us what happened more than migjt have beem cnxd, now not cnxd.

    • @sanspotter
      @sanspotter  5 років тому

      On two of the segments I was in the last row (5) and on one segment I was in row 1. The seat assignments are completely random by the way - they tell you where you’re going to sit when you line up to board the plane. Anyway, these flights were cheap! About $75 per segment if I recall correctly.
