Last night I saw Operation Mindcrime (The split off band with the singer of Queensryche). Amazing show, they played the whole Operation Mindcrime album and most of the songs from. Their Empire album. Amazing operation mindcrime is 30 years old. My throat is raw and my ears are ringing...perfect night!

For the record Dig Up Her Bones is not preformed by the original Misfits with Danzig. Not saying its a bad song, it just shouldn't be confused with the original material. It's in a different ball park.

what i love the most about danzig is probably his voice. he's very versatile he goes back and forth between shouting and a softer tone, within the same word sometimes, with perfect transition and pitch. his singing is very aggressive, yet very musical.
that's exactly what i said, Misfit's wasn't Glenn Danzig´s previous band because Samhain was after Misfits, and before Danzig... Samhain is in the middle. That, just that.
Danzig was also the singer for the punk band The Misfits, which was very influential for the vast majority of punk bands that came after. Check out "Where Eagles Dare" and "Last Caress"
This song was a response to Tipper Gore and the PMRC, which is responsible for a lot of the censorship of music in the late eighties and nineties, and the parental advisory labels that were added to album covers at that time. I recommend watching Dee Snider’s testimony before Congress on the perceived influence of music on youth. The guy perfectly invalidates all of their arguments, but sadly, didn’t have much of a sway in their opinions that they had already formed on metal, rock and rap music.
The drumming in this song is really what sets it apart, the beat shifts really are amazing, since the lead guitar doesn't really change the main chord.
Someone else probably mentioned this already, but "Mother" is actually written about Nancy Reagan and her push to get adult language and themed music out of stores ( "Won't somebody *_please_* think of the children?!" ); the debate over which eventually lead to the now-ubiquitous "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" tags that had come out in '85 and was still impacting rock sales in '87 when this tune came along. So you're actually _really_ close with your interpretation of Danzig throwing the responsibility to parent back at the parents.
BoojumFed: It wasnt about Nancy Reagan. Thematically, the song is a rhetorical challenge to parents, primarily inspired by Tipper Gore who, along with the Parents Music Resource Center, introduced the Parental Advisory warning placed on albums that contain explicit content. Glenn Danzig explained further: "Al Gore wanted to tell people what they could listen to and what they couldn't...it was basically coming down to the idea that he wouldn't let anybody record any music that he didn't think you should be doing. There was going to be an organization that would tell you what you could and couldn't record. And certainly if you couldn't record it, you couldn't put it out. It was really fascist."
I guess I missed that interview. And now that you mention it Nancy was behind the "Just Say No" campaign, not the "Parental Advisory" one; I must have gotten them mixed up (I _was_ rather young at the time so political people being insufferable jackasses kinda blended together).
Read up on the PMRC (Parents Music Resource Committee), this song was in direct response to their imposition of a ratings system on music. Check out Dee Snider's congressional testimony on the issue for the definitive statement on the issue. You could probably do a solid reaction to that video, it's worth watching for the history alone. The tl;dr is they thought they had a rock junkie to throw under the bus, but Dee schools just about everyone in the building as he's a sober family man who just likes to write about controversial topics to hard rocking music.
Dee took them fucking apart, piece by beautiful piece. It's a work of art what he did to them. Turning up in dirty jeans, huge fucked up hair, a crumpled speech, they thought they were in for a laugh but he destroyed them and every single argument they tried to bring to him. Dee deserves our eternal respect for what he did for rock and metal, every God damn one of us.
@@AndrewJShirley yes he does. I watched the whole video and was laughing as he destroyed every argument the PMRC had against him and every rocker on their list. And I guess bands that have to put the PA sticker on their albums since then have to thank the PMRC for boosting their sales numbers.
Yeah, he took them apart. I think it was a bit of a watershed moment, where the world started to realise that metalheads have brains and are capable of articulating their thoughts and rationalising their art.
Bro this is an instant song to kick start the day. I use to jam the heck out this song, I wore it out, but gave it a rest and psyched again to hear it.
As far as I'm aware your takeaway from the song is entirely correct. Basically the idea is that the popular idea at the time thought rock and metal were examples of "satanic music" and the song is sort of sarcastically saying "Yes. I'm going to teach your kids my dark and evil ways so keep them far away from me" Anyways, love your reaction. It makes me so giddy to see you freak out when you're really enjoying the energy of a song. As for a few recommendations, I gotta throw out Avantasia; Specifically their songs "The Scarecrow" or "Let the Storm Descend Upon You", As well as the ban Eluveitie. Their new track "Rebirth" is absolutely phenomenal. Keep up the amazing work, my dude!
Song is about censorship. Back when this song came out, metal was being heavily censored. This was their protest. It was asking if you could keep you kids locked up and completely innocent. That said, you have GOT to check out Theocracy. My personal favorite is I Am, but Nailed is great as is Drowning and The Master Story Teller. All of the songs listed are off of As the World Bleeds which is also a great song!
Fun fact: people call Glenn Danzig the “Evil Elvis” because he sounds exactly like Elvis. There’s been times where he covers Elvis songs live and it sounds just like the original song.
“I feel like when this song came out there was a lot of controversy between this type of music-“ Oh hell Yeah, dude. This song came out during the days of the PMRC, a congressional subcommittee discussing the effects of music with violent, vulgar, and/or sexual lyrics. It was mostly a bunch of wealthy politicians acting scandalized over some pretty harmless songs. They famously released a list of 15 songs they thought ought to be banned from radio stations, one of which was Fucking “We’re Not Gonna Take It” By Twisted Sister. This song was Glenn Danzig basically saying “you’re kids are gonna find this music no matter what, you’re ignorant to try and hide it from them.” “Can you keep ‘em in the dark for life? Can you hide ‘em from the waiting world?”
This song live was one of my favorite live music experiences. He was promoting his Lost Tracks album and Doyle's band Gorgeous Frankenstein was opening, a short Misfits set was the promised encore. The band was just on fire! Every song was kicking ass, the audience was seriously hot. When they get to this song Glenn just says "here's a song from Danzig 1." They play the opening riff and there is no crowd reaction. My initial thought is "what song has a riff similar to Mother?" When he gets to the opening line the whole audience sings along with him. No cheering, just singing along for the whole song. By the time the full band kicks the audience is getting louder. By the time they hit the first chorus I can't even hear the band! Afterwards Doyle comes out, they play the Misfits and the mosh pit explodes.
I've gotten 3 speeding tickets in my life. All 3 times, this song was BLASTING. Now, I don't play this song in the car anymore.
Bro. I feel you;. But mines is always Walk by Pantera
Hope you don't play Pantera or Painkiller by Judas Priest

Someone else probably mentioned this already, but "Mother" is actually written about Nancy Reagan and her push to get adult language and themed music out of stores ( "Won't somebody *_please_* think of the children?!" ); the debate over which eventually lead to the now-ubiquitous "Parental Advisory Explicit Content" tags that had come out in '85 and was still impacting rock sales in '87 when this tune came along. So you're actually _really_ close with your interpretation of Danzig throwing the responsibility to parent back at the parents.
BoojumFed:
It wasnt about Nancy Reagan.
Yep. Nancy alot don't know the Reagan deal
I guess I missed that interview. And now that you mention it Nancy was behind the "Just Say No" campaign, not the "Parental Advisory" one; I must have gotten them mixed up (I _was_ rather young at the time so political people being insufferable jackasses kinda blended together).
DUDE ...JUST KEEP LISTENING TO DANZIG AND YOUR LIFE WILL IMPROVE...U WILL BECOME HUMBLE ..WISE AND YOUR SACK WILL CARRY BIGGER BALLS...
Jake Albrethsen they didn't think Dee could speak English fluently. Dee's words exactly.
Jake Albrethsen I miss the PMRC. They ended up making some badass bands even better bc as we know kids want to do what they’re told not to do
Yeah, he took them apart. I think it was a bit of a watershed moment, where the world started to realise that metalheads have brains and are capable of articulating their thoughts and rationalising their art.
There is a smooth jazz/lounge version of this some UA-camr made and I tell you Glen’s vocals sound AWESOME on the arrangement
i usually dont like these reaction type videos. but your emotions bring me back to the first time i listened to these songs! keep it up my man :)

MY REACTION TO THIS SONG WAS THE EXACT SAME AS HIS!!! I SHIT YOU NOT!
Many of my speakers have met their end because of this song
Dude. Do some sevendust. Recommend Decay, Denial, Dirty. Also Angel's Son as well for the harmony.
The Stage by Avenged Sevenfold. Long Time Due
Bro this is an instant song to kick start the day. I use to jam the heck out this song, I wore it out, but gave it a rest and psyched again to hear it.
I saw him October 29th, 1992 at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco, for his How the Gods Kill tour. Still the best show I've seen to this date.
AC/DC-thunderstruck. Thats the band missing on your channel ;)
this song is awesome, instant goosebump each time I listen to it ! The album it came from is great too !
Love Danzig ....friends with the guitarist John Christ on FB
I wanna say that Danzig wrote this song in response to Tipper Gore forcing record companies to label albums with parental advisory stickers.
He's saying he's a bad, bad man. Mama, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. Danzig is that cowboy
How about some Suicidal Tendencies?
Institutionalized please?
all he wanted was a Pepsi.
While he's at it, he should listen to D. R. I.
How Will I Laugh Tomorrow and Pledge Your Allegiance.
Meya Misfits just one Pepsi
Nightwish - Ghost Love Score ( Official Live ) pls dude you must react!!! :')
vaske 93 The Tarja version, preferably!
As far as I'm aware your takeaway from the song is entirely correct. Basically the idea is that the popular idea at the time thought rock and metal were examples of "satanic music" and the song is sort of sarcastically saying "Yes. I'm going to teach your kids my dark and evil ways so keep them far away from me"
Anyways, love your reaction.
Colton Shiffer I think he'd lose his shit over Rebirth. So much craziness in that song
Shoutout to the Guitar Hero/Rock Band series for introducing me to so much good music
*_Opeth - Blackwater Park!_*
I think Ghost of Perdition is a better song to get him into their hardcore stuff. But he MUST react to Opeth again!
Agree, Blackwater park. He's ready.
@@markbrown7968 he'll never be ready. Blackwater Park is it's own journey.
danzig even in misfit days had awesome vocals
Danzig is my favorite singer
Fun fact: people call Glenn Danzig the “Evil Elvis” because he sounds exactly like Elvis. There’s been times where he covers Elvis songs live and it sounds just like the original song.
It was the perfect answer to the PMRC!
React DIMMU BORGIR - The Sacrilegious Scorn
Supa Flask yes!!
GTA:SA
Luã Vilante I'm so mad that new versions removed alot of the good songs like Guns n Roses and Ozzy Osbourne
AUGUST

GHOSTS
PLEASE!
PLEASE!
PLEASE!
Yes! Ghosts would make for such a good reaction video. It's an awesome song and video with a great message.
