    I started my therapy 1 week ago using a f20 full face mask, and it has been hell. Leaks all night, I wake up in the middle of the night because I’m feeling the air on my eyes. I have taken the mask out at some point because I’m just frustrated. I have strapped it normal, also very tight, and it becomes annoying to your nose bridge. I am also a side sleeper and I think that the mask type is not the proper for me, as I think the leak starts when my face is against the pillow and it moves the mask, loosing the seal. I also tend to breathe from my mouth sometimes, so I think a nasal mask could be a problem. I’ve thought a f30i could be a better option, but well, the masks ain’t cheap and doing it by trial and error is complicated heheh. The point is that as today, I feel more tired by doing the therapy than without doing it, and it feels very frustrating.

      Hello,
      I can understand the frustration of trying to find the right CPAP mask for yourself. If you are really struggling and you have a sleep specialist you can go to I would let them know the issues you are having and they may be able to recommend a mask that is ideal for you. If not, you can give us a call and we can put you in touch with our respiratory therapist.

      @@Sleeplayground thank you very much. I talked with my provider and we decided to change for an f30i. The difference was huge, now I’m able to sleep without being uncomfortable and without leaks, and I am slowly adapting to sleep with it. I can see big improvements and I hope that I can go down to sleep normally soon.

      I have the dreamwear which is a hybrid under the noise but covers the mouth. And let me tell you it has leaks when I sleep on my side. Bothersome. I want to give the f20 w memory foam cushion a try

      Please know that sleep apnea is real and lack of sleep will shorten your life.
      It takes at least a month before you find the correct way to use the mask and machine.
      Work with your technician and eventually you will get used to it.
      I have used it for 11 years and at 86, my longevity is due to my wonderful sleep!

      I have tried f20 f20 airtouch and now f30 waiting for the f40..but they all leak..now I think it's because when I sleep I move too much so now buying a holder for the hose to try and stop hose dragging my mask about.. I thought about f30i but I ll try the holder first

    When I first starting using a CPAP machine. I used a regular full face mask. It was a little cumbersome. But when trying to fall asleep. I pretended I was a fighter pilot using a oxygen mask. It helped me get used to it pretty quickly. I have also found that if you toss and turn while sleeping. A mask that has the tubing on top of your head is much better. Tubing that hangs down gets caught and pulls your mask off. At least that's been my experience.

    At first i thought you were doing a hip hop video!@LOL , but seriously my masks makes whistle noises like a tea kettle up on the top of my nose, it's very annoying and wakes me up, why is it doing that?

    • @Sleeplayground
      @Sleeplayground  2 роки тому +1

      Hi rub549,
      Sorry for the late response. The cushion beneath the nostrils may not be adjusted correctly or may have the wrong size. The whistling sound would come from excessive leakage in most cases. Please let me know if there is anything further I can help you with. Thank you for choosing Sleeplay.com

    I recently started using the Airsense 11 and I'm brand new to CPAP therapy. I've only been using for a week and I'm already very discouraged. The usage numbers are WAY off and the difference between the machine and the MyAir app don't match. Not even close. For example, the machine says I used it for 8 hours last night, but MyAir says just over 2. The machine says I had a leak rate of 30L/min. but also says I had a "Great Seal." Is that great? My Events score has been about 12 or 13 and I don't feel any better. I'll reach out to the company that sold me this unit, but I just wanted to mention that I'm having a lot of issues.

    • @Sleeplayground
      @Sleeplayground  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, that actually happens at times with the Air11 and Air10. I would say the time so much would not matter as the most important would be comfort and AHI or events. Yes they should be under 5 but if you are leaking too much the machine will register more events. But yes you need to contact the supplier to look into Airview and find out how your doing and where the events are coming from. Also they would know what type of events you are having, Obstructive, Central and if the Unspecified that would be due to leakage.

    Here is a tip for men..... Shave at night like 30 min. before bed time.. and wash your face with soap and water and your hands.! no lotions or creams. DRY face with clean towel... mask will stick to your skin and your seals won't get dirty... Especially if you have oily skin. Cleansing wipes might help also.

    Should we be aiming for "zero" leakage? My machine says my nasal pillow fits well but it always shows an average leak of 10L/min. Is that acceptable or not?

    • @Sleeplayground
      @Sleeplayground  2 роки тому +1

      Hello,
      No, you shouldn't be aiming for zero leakage. All CPAP masks have an accepted leak rate. Which nasal pillow mask are you using?

    I havee used the nuance pro full face for 4 years and never had an issue until about 4 months ago. Now any replacement parts (replaced all parts at once also) I buy still result in leaking at night. Its like the tubing for the headgear that pops into the cushion now leaks out. Previously I never had this issue. Its like a manufacturing change has occured and now the mask leaks where it snaps in.

      @@linda.bay12 It does take about 1 month to get used to CPAP therapy. If you think the mask is causing you to not receive the therapy correctly, you can speak with your doctor and see if they can recommend a better mask.

    The only problems I find with any if the masks I use is they make my face sweat! I get hot during the night and the mask ends up sliding and breaking seal even at perfect tightness. I will have a fan blowing on me just to try and keep cool or I will need to pull the mask away from my face multiple times just to cool off and dry out..summer is always the worst. The cotton covers just get hot on me as well unfortunately.. just a hot head I guess.LOL!
    Now I have a great solution for those that want to save their hair from damage..I have curly hair and it was breaking my doo with the friction of the straps..so I got whats called a "Buff". Its like a cotton tube shape cloth that you can pull up over your hair and then the mask fits nicely over it and I never have broken hair. Anykind of satin or smooth cotton bonnet or scarf would work as well.👍😁

    Sorry! Your body language was that of a second hand car salesman and although the vid' told me what could be wrong, it did nothing to to actually give any practical tips on how to adjust my mask,. I have experimented with fitting my full face mask and have found reducing the length of the head strap by 10mm and securing with velcro has helped to a large extent. Nevertheless, I still get nights when the mask slips and leaks.
    I'll keep experimenting and revising the design of my mask until my wife can get a decent nights sleep.

      Hi, Sorry about the gentleman moving his hands a lot. This is James on the most recent videos, I hope I am not doing the same, LOL. I would say your always going to get some leakage especially from the full face mask. I would maybe recommend the Airtouch F20 model. That cushion is memory foam rather then the traditional silicone which may make less noise. Also I usually recommend to the patient's I have had a relationship with over the years to try a nasal mask. Even with opening the mouth it may benefit you the same you just have to get used to a little more. But if you can which I believe you can the benefit is the same with the more comfortable mask. Let me know what worked and what took place and I will try to further assist you.

      @@SleeplaygroundI've done some research and come to the conclusion that my problem could possibly be jaw drop. To try and solve the problem I've modified the straps so that they pass beneath my chin to secure on opposite sides of the mask. This; I hope; will help support the jaw and prevent any drop. I'll trial it overnight and let you know if it's successful and, more importantly, comfortable.

      @@Sleeplayground You did nothing wrong, it is just the industry and bad engineers I would say lol. Mine is a Philips Respironics DreamWear Nasal Mask, (very comfortable) I even bought like a year later the arms that is closer to what would fix the issue. The thing won't stay on the head no matter how tight, it just slides up during the night. I am thinking of doing a semi-full? face mask, I like the pillows a lot, but sometimes I do mouth breath and I have a mustache and beard. Just haven't found one yet that is good, without pain, slipping, leaking etc lol
