That 6” 2nd series is my favorite not only for its accuracy but due to the location of the magazine release. Only downside is the Bakelite (colt plastic) grips but that really is insignificant.
I agree, the 2nd series woodsmans are the best shooters due to having the most desired features (push button magazine release, slide stop, HV ammo ability, nicer sights, larger grip size, nicer trigger design, etc). I also agree that accuracy is inherent in all three models. I am actually most accurate with my 1st series match target, but my second series get more range time because they are more fun.
Good primer for a buyer to keep on hand. Bought a few the past couple years, because they were selling lower at auction. Just got a first series that scared bidders off. Just needs a thorough cleaning. It seems to have a later model magazine. This video reminded me of the two tone first gen. Gotta keep an eye out for those now.
I would really like to own a Target Match series 2 or 3 some day to shoot with my others. Are any of them Ammo sensitive? What do they like to eat and what(ammo type, weight, brand)won’t they feed well with. I have two High standards, one a bull barrel military and the other a citation military and they are awesome shooters and not too ammo picky
Can you highlight the main difference in terms of features between 2nd and 3rd series? does the slide stays open after the last round in second series?
There is a last round holdup in both the second and third series. The only exceptions are the challenger (2nd), huntsman (3rd), and targetsman (3rd) that do not lock open on the last shot. The only main difference is the location of the magazine release. Other than that the grips, trigger, and magazine safety has been changed.
I have a 2nd series colt woodsman which I inherited from my father. I am not able to find a video of how to do a field strip in order to clean it. Can you please make a video of the process or guide me where to find it? I found some sites with written instructions but they are confusing. I rather to see the process on video. Thanks.
The Targetsman is an economical version in the 3rd series woodsman line. The Huntsman was the cheapest, then the Targetsman, then the Woodsman Target model, then the most expensive was the Woodsman Match Target model. You never really see Targetsman pistols though. I don't know how rare they are, but I don't see too many of them.
