I had a tough time this school year balancing gym and life. There was a time where I didn't workout for 3 weeks, went back to the gym for two days, then out again for 2 weeks. It was an awful period for me but luckily my strength didn't drop as much as I thought and it was easy to get back to the level I was at before. As soon as summer break started I've started going to the gym every day, made it my goal that I ain't gonna miss a single day until I leave on vacation next month, every part of my body is currently aching but **no excuses** .
***** i know the feels man. i recently started working out seriously. i went to the gym for about 2 months and i stopped for a month, went back for a week, and then stopped again. so since summer break i haven't been able to go to the gym. so i just stay home and force myself to workout every day even if its only for like a half hour or hour. you just gotta put in the time and deal with it.
Andrew Yi For me it was highly unusual missing the gym as much as I did. I used to head to a gym located near my school everyday but after new years they started piling shit on us so much that I barely had time to be with my family, let alone find time to go to the gym. Now that I'm free from all that shit for 2 months, I've made it my goal to go every day because I love working out, and now there's nothing stopping from expressing that love haha. If you're forcing yourself to go to the gym, you need to find some motivation before it's too late. That's a reason why I love this channel, everytime I watch BB I get a sudden urge to go workout haha even if it's after a workout I still get pumped up.
***** lol sorry i didn't mean that i "force" myself. i just make sure that i'm getting some kind of workout in. i actually do love working out. and getting that soreness is very refreshing to know that i pushed that muscle hard. but recently i haven't been getting sore so i push myself harder. if i do 4 sets of 20 on whatever muscle i'm working out, and i'm not sore, i push myself to do an extra set or just do more reps. if you find that its hard to find time try wake up early before school/work and get like at least an hour in.(even if you have to do it at home) my friend, who loves working and is kind of training me, he says no matter what you should always make time for that thing you love. or else life will get boring and meaningless.
Yeah i realize that. That goes for basically anything lol. I actually got home at maybe 11 pm and had to wake up at maybe 6-7 to help out my pastor with stuff.and then we would go to the church event for about 6 days. i woke up early too but i fell back asleep haha
A big part of mine is forward planning of when I know programming is going to go out the window and making up for it in advance. Exam time is the worst for me but leading up I will go from 3-4 day program up to 6-7 day program ..... Do what ever I can during the exam period (which is usually barely anything) and keep up the 6-7 day program for the week after and then go back to normal. I also find it makes me more productive in what's taking me away from the gym because I'm not distracted by the fact that I know I should be training.
***** 1. Do compound movements, with minor emphasis on isolation exercises. 2. Eat Right. 3. Sleep. 4. Don't jump from program to program. 5. Be patient. Not necessarily in that order. BTW don't get sucked into believing you need a whole bunch of supplements. Eat whole foods, supplement with whey if needed, and take a little creatine. +llegend man I was exactly like you man I'm 17... used to be 79kg lost 8-9 and now I'm 75kg after 3 months of consistency 6 days a week... the first few weeks is hard asf from old cravings, sore muscles etc but eventually it becomes a habit a lifestyle, you won't need motivation anymore, you'll love it once you see proper gains you become addicted ahaha
4 - 5 hours per training session and 5 days a week? No offence, but no wonder you guys aren't finding the time to balance life and gym. That seems rather excessive. I mean at the end of the day you can do what you want. But I feel like the lack of balance is on you then if that's your gym schedule.
***** I find it extremely unnecessary, 2 and half hours max I'd say is ok, 3 pushing it. But I'm trying to figure out what you could possibly be doing in 5 hours.
Well like he said hour before hour after (idk if that's included), But otherwise it's definitely including travel. Plus since they own the gym they most know loads of people there so will be constantly chatting etc. plus maybe they are meanwhile checking everything is being run properly? Explains some of the extra time
BreezyUK I could understand if it was that, but I'm kinda skeptical tbh. Because I have heard Bart said in past videos that he sometimes just squats or just deadlifts for 2 - 3 hours. But I guess you do what you like and works for you. So who am I to judge I guess.
questionnnn this may be true but they also own the gym. They are bosses too basically so they do need to be able to do stuff at barbell brigade because that is their business too
I work 12-14 hours a day with construction; I was up at 330 to walk to the gym by 4am, workout from 4 till 540 then get picked up from the gym to get to work. I do meal prep on Sundays and try to cook for 5 days or so. If If I can do it, who can't? You have to actually want it, if not you won't get up and work out. Prioritize your life. There's 24 hours. You only need 5 or 6 hours of sleep.
I used to be possessed by the need to workout and the feeling of intense disappointment in myself when I missed an exercise day. I ended up missing out on my niece and nephews birthdays, family get togethers, friend hanging out etc. etc. and in the end even when I felt good about my body, I felt lonely. Interestingly then, my issue wasn't missing workouts but rather missing out on life. Now I eased off on the need to always be working out and instead of immediately choosing a workout instead of a get together, I now weigh the two before choosing between them. I became closer with my brothers and sisters and can keep up with my friends. Its definitely worth the missed workouts. and you know what? I actually feel just as good if not better about my body than I did before.
legendly awesome if you're new to it then you'll build muscle and lose fat pretty easily no matter what you do, you just gotta watch what you eat. Just find a beginner program online and follow it and start counting calories. Eat maintenance calories to a slight deficit (you can get a good estimate from any calorie calculator online) and try to have at least 1 g of protein per pound of bodyweight to take advantage of newbie gains. Jonnie Candito's linear program is great for beginners and as long as you put in the work you'll get a lot stronger in a hurry.
Got 2 jobs and full time school (5 days a week) and still go to the gym 5 days a week. I like the challenge, except for times where i have to pull all nighters cause night shift at second job :( No excuses, it's bout how committed and dedicated you really are. We all have time, it's our choice to make the time for certain things
The answer is simple. Work out in the morning. That way when the workout is good, the entire day has a good perspective to it, and you're more productive, and compared to working out after work, you're 100% focused and have 100% energy.
I'm fourteen and just want to start lifting and building strength. Does anyone have any opinions or tips for someone barely just starting. I don't think I have the average fourteen year old body I'm roughly about 5'11 or 6' ft tall and weigh about 183 lbs. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm in med school. We have lectures from 8am to 5 and sometimes 8pm. Then I need to study for at least 4 hours in weekdays and up to 10 hours in weekends and before exams. And I still need to maintain some sort of social life. So going to the gym seems impossible for me :( the most I can do right now is 30 minutes each day on treadmill and some pull/push ups. Any advise would be extremely helpful
Wooden Kites Are Fabulous dont bother with the treadmill everyday, once or twice a week is fine, and focus on big compound movements to make the most of your 30 min like maybe bench press and military press one day, squats and deadlifts another day, and pull ups and barbell row another day. or any other combination you feel like doing.
Wooden Kites Are Fabulous Honestly, with your schedule, I wouldn't even think about weightlifting. I have a buddy in the same position going to med school and maintaining a 4.0. If you can, come up with decently healthy diet and whenever you have the time for it, dedicate half an hour to doing push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, or whatever calisthenic exercises you can. If you don't have at least an hour and a half for three days a week on a consistent basis, you won't see a lot of gains. Focus on med school for now and worry about lifting after you graduate and aren't tied down with studying and homework.
Bart can you do like a review of your new car with joe? Almost like top gear with a mounted camera inside and talk while you drive i think it be really cool
Jeez the most I've ever train in a gym was 3 hours a day for 5 day in a row full body when I was 21 and sorta kinda knew my stuff at a gym. 24 now and I train for maybe 2.5 hours 3 days a week with an added hour warm up before then and seen good results. I must still be in my newb gains. #Hypertrophy4Life
Kyle Webber training for bodybuilding and powerlifting are very different. in order to get the volume needed for strength gain you need alot of rest compared to where bodybuilding u want less rest more tension under time
You can get a lot of work done in 1hr of a bodybuilding program if your gym isn't full of bro's texting their mothers on the machines. 5 exercises and probably a good 4 working sets each exercise. I did Smolov Jr to get my squat up with a friend. I think on the days we did 10x3, we were in there close to 3 hrs, if we didn't rest enough you get inconsistent in reps and form not to mention working at that intensity is just brutal without enough time between sets.
Well all you have to ask yourself is "How important is this too me?" Are you doing a competition soon? Are you planning on doing competitions? Well then it should be high on the priority list, pair that with the passion you have for bettering yourself. The way I see it is, you need to have time for yourself. Even if it is just an hour, you need to have that time because most of us work and we are serving other people all day.
I think if you need to ask yourself how to balance them, you already have a problem...most people that workout have life as a priority while gym as a secondary, except athletes and pro bodybuilders and powerlifters. gym and workout is their job
I really don't think these guys can answer this question legitimately. I mean I know JK films is its own thing, but Barbell Brigade and this gym and the clothing line - it's all related right? So if I got to spend 4-5 hours in the gym and film it and counted editing and production as 'work' on top of that then this wouldn't be an issue for me either. Unfortunately like a lot of viewers I'm holding down an actual job where my employer dictates my time whereas you could just film JK stuff another day and you wouldn't get sacked or anything.
Masrex true but now they probably don't even edit or upload themselves. They just show talk about random news stories, play a game, or go on an adventure. sounds more like a day with friends than work.
gallagher0919 you can't say they haven't earned it though, 8 years invested into this, most of Bart's responsibilities are probably concerned with Barbell Brigade, from what I can remember Geo was always responsible for marketing/pr but they probably paid someone for that now too
gallagher0919 Tommy and some other person in JK edits their videos, not only that they record about 3 weeks worth of JK News in one sitting, plus Geo does accounting, and Bart is managing 2 businesses (jk and Barbell) etc etc. I have no clue what the others do tho.
you should cross train, do cross country, any other sports, swim, run, ride a bike... You seem to love the outdoors so why stay indoors and repeat the same moves every day?
what are you doing in the gym for 4 hours!? 2 hours feels like a long workout! taking a month of the gym... wouldn't the obvious solution to be train 1-1.5 hours a day 3-4 times a week
Paul Sloan I know national record holders who do less training. everyone wants results immediately. as an amateur lifter you can make gains with smart programming in 1-2 hours every other day but need consistency and patience. I have some sympathy as bench is my weakness too. I included a bench variation in every workout only 3 months ago - Tue floor press at 90% after deadlifts, Thur paused bench at 80% + other push/pull, tris/delts accessories; Sat fast touch-n-go bench at 90% or OHP after squat/accessories - and have broken a long standing plateau from ideas I picked up watching other youtubers, so I'm not hating here. ~when you train at a commercial gym barbell time is at a premium, you get focussed~
Yeah I know people that go hard out for like 2-3 months then they'll do what Geo did and go off it for a month and it's like what was the point?? Consistency beats all, you can have a guy with the best genetics in the world but the guy who's put in 20 years of hard training will still be a better lifter if he's only put a couple months in here and there
ooHashim Night-time shits dude. If you join a private gym for a month, I'm sure you can have the owner keep it open at night or let you have keys for the night if you explain your situation.
ooHashim I bench around 80 KG's while fasting during ramadan. The trick is to eat a lot of carbs before suhoor (pre dawn meal) and than to workout right before you break your fast. Check out stronglifts 5X5 article on working out during ramadan.
Salaam, during Ramadan I wake up at 4am to eat pray then off to the gym . Sunrise at 6:31am here in Miami so I'm home by 6am for a protein shake and water.
Yup. 4 days strength + drop sets (on final set of every exercise). 4 days hypertrophy + rest/ pause sets (on final set of every exercise). Sometimes Ill have an unplanned rest day if Im too bagged from work (residential framer 10hrs/ day). Sometimes ill gym twice in the same day on the weekend if I'm feeling up to it.
***** I was thinking about making videos, but fuck, I dont know how I would have time for it, and its a lot harder to make videos that I thought. I even started editing one the other night, but there was like a thousand cuts cause I keep saying "um" every 10 seconds or start talking about something different. Talking to a camera is a lot different than having a conversation. It seems so easy when the you tubers do it.
Branden Hee I suppose JK Films requires more creativity and industry, but JK News involves nothing more than sitting around a table talking about stuff. We all do that for free at the weekends with our friends.
DarKool81 Yes, but you cannot discredit the amount of effort they put in to entertain their viewers by producing quality videos every day. The time and effort spent on each video is not something you can snuff at.
Lu needs to get his own channel. He is too funny.

What if you waste 2 hours daily in travel? I am fucked bro. Gym closes before my shift is over.
I treat the gym like a regular part of my day like brushing my teeth loli just have to do it.

lu your the mvp
By now, Lu should be having his own channel
thanx for the advice guys
What kind of workouts are the best for losing weight.
Drop sets high reps
Wtf does that mean, im a fat newb to this shit....
legendly awesome if you're new to it then you'll build muscle and lose fat pretty easily no matter what you do, you just gotta watch what you eat.
-_-... Okay, I will follow this but that program. I have my own, but idk if im getting results.
Great advice!
I'm not a pro lifter, but isn't 4 hour sessions really really long? Or does it depend on the sport?
sometimes i watch these and i just blank out and day dream and i don't even know what the fuck i just watched but i still enjoyed it.... haha
Bart is the best person to talk about this.
Lu Funny AF!!
"Almost like China" I lol'd did you?

45 mins to 1:15. All u need if u keep it to ur self. Yes u can do for 3 hours if u talk to entire gym after every set
You find the time for the things you love.

3-4 hours?!

Masrex true but now they probably don't even edit or upload themselves. They just show talk about random news stories, play a game, or go on an adventure. sounds more like a day with friends than work.
gallagher0919 you can't say they haven't earned it though, 8 years invested into this, most of Bart's responsibilities are probably concerned with Barbell Brigade, from what I can remember Geo was always responsible for marketing/pr but they probably paid someone for that now too
I agree. they deserve everything, Just saying what they do is a lot better/fun than accountant, construction, cashier, etc.
gallagher0919 Tommy and some other person in JK edits their videos, not only that they record about 3 weeks worth of JK News in one sitting, plus Geo does accounting, and Bart is managing 2 businesses (jk and Barbell) etc etc. I have no clue what the others do tho.
you should cross train, do cross country, any other sports, swim, run, ride a bike... You seem to love the outdoors so why stay indoors and repeat the same moves every day?
4 hr sessions?! at most 2 lol
5x5 3 times a week, good results and low amount of time
what are you doing in the gym for 4 hours!?
Consistency beats all, you can have a guy with the best genetics in the world but the guy who's put in 20 years of hard training will still be a better lifter if he's only put a couple months in here and there
3 hours? That's pretty excessive 1.5-2 hours max per session
Training for 3-4 hours?!?!?!
Dafuq are you doing in the gym for 4hours
how are you gonna have a youtube channel based on lifting and not be going AT LEAST 5 days a week
i so don't talk as if I'm there with them
Dunno what I'm guna do with Ramadan and gym... Guna lose my 225lbs/100kg bench and my 315lbs squat and deadlift ;(
ooHashim Night-time shits dude.
Sunrise at 6:31am here in Miami so I'm home by 6am for a protein shake and water.
heres an idea instead of going for 5 fucking hours for 3 days just go 1.5-2 every 5 days
Fuck life. Gym > Life. 8 days on 1 day off.
C:
not watching. These vids are stupid. Gym is part of life. Over.
TheOlzee gym is life
TheOlzee mate sounds like ur one of those people who sit infront of the computer, eating mac donalds and... not doing anything. i guess
Soz man gave you the wrong impression, came back from a 3hour back day, eating and watching youtube
BROLY KUN wow you should people for a living. you have a fine talent.
TheOlzee nah im cool with my chicken breasts, dumbell, bed, school and anime
GYM and acomplish gym objectives is all about comite
Haha. Commercial gyms have 5.5 billions people ,almost like China with a few treadmills.
Lmfao you working out 4 hours a day.. cut it back to an hour.
come on guys, the JK stuff isn't real work.
They get paid for their videos so yea it is real work
DarKool81 you don't know how difficult it is to produce quality content on youtube.
What in the hell is she spending 20 hours in the gym a week for?
Geo "has" to go to the gym to make gains.. not WANT to go? thats the problem.
Lol you guys got out of topic.
Bart is on peds.
She's cute :-)

Johan Emil Finsson sorry to say Vernon gaines is first...
Why is Lu always flexing in every video, his arms are not that big. Seems kind of arrogant.
