I've actually produced parts for this engine! Worked at an Iron foundry in the machine shop, we made ductile iron engine mounts as well as an accessory pulley that had a keyed and tapered bore. We also made some kind of suspension bulkhead out of heat treated ductile iron.

TIL Banks are doing the tuning of the Duramax engines for Oshkosh/JLTV. That's quite an achievment to get the DOD seal of approval that you are making reliable power with your engines.
I once toured the GM Plant in Moraine and saw the Banks Only rack of engines. Pretty impressive! If you park in the 'Duramax Powered Vehicles Only' parking lot and it's not a Dmax...they WILL tow you!
I worked there from 2000-2011. Where exactly was that in the parking lot? Knew many who drove other brands...hell the union president at the time drove an old dodge power wagon.
400 engines per day used to be the minimum, so long as the crank, block and head lines didn't starve assembly. They stayed until they hit the number. Glad I started on the block line (in Makino).
I worked as one of the test engineering crew at the Nevada Automotive Test Center where these vehicles were tested and tortured. I can tell you that these vehicles are utterly amazing and ride like nothing you've ever experienced off road. I think the only thing that might ride better than one of the JLTV's is the M1A1 Abrams. I was never able to talk about it to anyone - but seeing as how this seems to be public, I'm pretty sure I'm in the clear now. Banks did an amazing job with these engines. They move these huge JLTV's like nothing. I'm pretty sure I can't mention their top speed, but believe me when I tell you, they hustle like nothing we've ever had before.
I think I watched this when Gale Banks first released it but it popped up in my video-feed this morning anyway. I can always benefit from revisiting one of his videos! The sad part is that last week I received another video stating it was from GM and that they either just did or soon will close all DURAMAX production. Here's another piece of that casket they keep building for General Motors. This obsession with EV ONLY is going to kill the company. The government isn't the people that buy enough product to support the company, the public is and they aren't buying enough EV products to keep GM alive. There are a whole lot of people out there that have supported GM for many decades. Management needs to listen to the folks writing the checks more than the bureaucrats dictating new rules.
Just looking at some of the parts on this vehicle I can imagine the taxpayer/government getting ripped off on LED arrays and other parts that are custom. Ubiquity like the HUMMV was a huge strength, now having to build up a brand new supply chain with CANBUS electronics and custom assemblies specific to this vehicle from exterior lighting to anything else means we see the era of the 10,000 dollar hammer again. RIP taxpayers wallets. Government Pork barrel spending. With all the complexity of these new vehicles you will need a toughbook with a scanner to troubleshoot anything rather tha just a screw driver like on the old 6.5's, 2 stroke and cummins powered vehicles that came before it.
Nice video loved it. Government contracts are pain full so I thank you. What seems like a lot of money is not when dealing with DCMA or other agencies. So once again thank you
