I like how 1137 the MassDOT blue GP40 was pulling the Work Extra. The blue paint gives you something to admire instead of the regular GP40s in the purple and silver paint scheme.
I enjoyed the video. Looks like a former Canadian Pacific caboose, with some interesting modifications. I worked as a Conductor for CP for almost 40 years & I'd know one anywhere. I wish we had air horns on ours, the air whistle we used for back up moves was just plain embarrassing to use ..lol.
I am thinking that was just her response to a driver behind me who I remember tried to go around the line of traffic stopped for the train. But at the end of the day, I have no idea 😂
Very cool indeed. Nowadays, the only action that branch sees is the CSX job that works the area on some week nights. This MBTA move was a rare exception for sure
Cool video. I like seeing the old passenger cars and the Best looking cabose I saw. Still active in 2024 is very rare for a cabose. Bell and ditch looks just make it look like I'm the boss of this train.
If @archiemoreno (a guy that rides around in a custom-made railcart on abandoned railroads in the United States) was coming down these tracks and encountered that train head-on, I can barely imagine his suprised face.
OMG, that’s so sad. R.I.P to 1627 and 1642. Where is 1647 these days? I thought I saw him stored in the deadline at Boston Engine Terminal, but I might be wrong. The CTC-1Bs were the cab cars that made people want to rail fan the commuter rail. All I can say is they’ll be dearly missed. Anyways, nice catch there mate.
Sad for sure. The 1647 is still in operation on a test train set based out of Middleboro - it runs most weekdays across the South Coast Rail lines where passenger service will be starting soon. And thank you
1647 “the cab car that never dies” just like 1013 “the screamer that never dies”, Lol. 😅 Both of these were the last coaches/engines to operate in service. Kinda funny if you ask me.
I was working on a CB&Q that's a railroad , a fireman on the locomotive, then one day I saw a little baby crawling along the track a baby mind you. And I grabbed that baby, and I flung it into a nice pile of soft leaves. Me well I didn't make out so good. Fractured my leg. The baby was all right. Today that baby is president of Vons supermarket you think he ever took the trouble to thank me, no sir! Rich folks got short memories.
Where in Everett was this? Who told you that this MBTA Work Extra would be running on May 23rd? I didn’t think an MBTA Commuter Rail train could get from Somerville to Everett, quite the surprise. Can’t believe this was 3 months ago already, Jesus time flies. 😮
The shots in this video were taken near Behen street in Everett along the industrial track. I’ve got more clips of this train from more locations to post, hopefully tomorrow. Someone I know is a dispatcher for the MBTA and he was made aware of this move the day before it happened and was kind enough to tell me about it. And yes, this is very rare mileage indeed. Time flies for sure !
Do they no longer do cement Quebec, the scrap place or the reefers at the food distribution center? I trained on BO-1 and that job was pretty crazy having to go back there three times a week and flag all those roads down
Very interesting that you’ve worked on that line before - quite the experience I can imagine ! All of those industries are very much still in use, the difference is that CSX does the work nowadays and the job that goes to Everett pretty much is only seen in the dead of night
@@rail_spike_productions glad it’s still in use. BO-1 was one of the coolest jobs I’ve ever worked on the railroad. I especially liked going on the Peabody Branch. I was bummed to see that go. Honestly, with how traffic was back there I think it’s better they switch it at night. I trained on that job for three weeks and almost everyday we were held up by vehicles parked too close to the tracks by the Amazon Warehouse.
Thanks for the share, that’s quite cool. I didn’t even consider that people would assume no trains are coming by on these tracks, but I can see how that would be problematic! Indeed quite sad to see the Peabody traffic stop, I got out there to see them work it as much as I could
The two passenger cars on this train had been in operation on the MBTA for decades and have reached the end of their service life. They were being brought for scrap by the train seen in this video

OK that is by far the coolest modified caboose I have ever seen modified with its own headlight ditch lights horn and bell
It’s one of my favorite pieces of equipment on the MBTA. I’m glad to see that others enjoy it as well

Very glad you enjoyed, and you make a good point - those air whistles only can do so much! A great piece of equipment they’ve got here for sure
The lady shaking her head at you 😂

@@rail_spike_productions it’s because you were being a nerd 😜
Hahaha of course
@@KandiKloverworld needs more nerds!
Thats cool, I wish I could have seen this in person. I've only ever seen trains on that branch at night, from the water.
Very cool indeed. Nowadays, the only action that branch sees is the CSX job that works the area on some week nights. This MBTA move was a rare exception for sure
Back in the 50's a cousin worked on a freight caboose. He would always sound the caboose signal horn going by.

Absolutely - I always enjoy getting footage of that caboose, although nowadays it’s getting more difficult. Glad you enjoyed
Cool 😎 😊
Thank you
Good catch !
Thank you !

Excellent video my friends 😊 and Greeting 🙋
That GP sure sounds good!
Very cool video!
Thank you !
Awesome cool caboose
Thank you - and yes it sure is something!

Schnitzer did huge rail volume at one time and I met them on how to handle more rail cars. They were exporting scrap to turkey
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing

The caboose is in great shape! The cabooses that CSX uses for service like this are an absolute mess and are full of graffiti!
I agree with you, they’ve done a surprisingly good job keeping this caboose in good condition
Locomotora color muy bonito

What’s better is that there’s even a massdot unit

what are the two passenger cars used for?

The electric poles look a bit overgrown , too ( but not as bad as Japan ! ) ....... DAVE™🛑
There goes another
Bring back the caboose
I enjoyed the video
Very glad to hear it
@@rail_spike_productions u are very welcome
Those cars are gone. Both damaged in a rock slide/ Grade crossing incident
I remember that incident with the 1627. What happened to the 42 ?
If the MBTA was smart the would take some of the trailer cars and make them into cafe cars
HELLO I WAS PRESENT
Excellent observation
Where are the overgrown tracks
💀
Are you slow?
They’re quite visible in the video. If you mean location, they’re in Everett
Oh, I know where it is now
Everett???? .......... Ok, You must be talking about another state. I'm in Seattle and we have a city named Everett Wa. North of Seattle
Yes, this is Massachusetts. MBTA is the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority
