one thing that wasn't mentioned very often, is that the Ruby Slippers were made for the film, to really show off the incredible technological achievements of color filming. The fact that they are so bright and sparkling on screen, is a testament to the advancements in film technology, that they truly were iconic movie props known for their color and how dazzling they were on screen. Many know that the shoes in the Oz Books, were in fact Silver Shoes, not Ruby Slippers but MGM decided to change them to the Ruby Slippers to really make them shine and sparkle bright especially in contrast to the Yellow Brick Road.
@@DH09876no it was really just in 1937 collecting and museums were that bug of a deal so costumes and props were simply reused or destroyed/throw away. someone bought the slippers which is why they were saved. the lion suit cant be found either.
Honestly, I don’t see why they’re putting it up for action when really they should’ve been giving the slippers back to the Judy Garland Museum as soon as they were recovered from the thief. It’s kind of like a stolen child except the police give the child to another parent instead of the original the Judy Garland museum shouldn’t have to raise money in order to buy back what was stolen from them
They were only being temporarily loaned to the museum when they were stolen. If you were the owner of those shoes, you'd want to get back your investment too.
They were not the Judy Garland museum's slippers. They were on loan when they were stolen. The idiotic owner of the museum turned off the door alarms because kids were tripping them. They should never go back to that person, OR that museum, first and foremost. Secondly, the owner decided to sell them. They're his property. They do belong in a museum, but that's why people pay admission go to museums. So they can buy artifacts like this. If museums can't raise the funds, then, that's that.
@danielalvarado9019 Wow, that's good to know. Just don't like the idea that something like Judy Garland's actual shoes (even if they're one of many) from The Wizard of Oz could just be auctioned off. Like they're just too special for something like...😑.
He’s wrong- Yes, Judy’s are size 5B but these are mismated with an alternate size. Also - if I’m paying MILLIONS I’d want to know their COMPLETE provenance while on the lamb (missing)!! What did the shoes go through?
The story i heard was the reason they were stolen was because the robbers thought they contained real rubies. Once they realized they weren't, they we're put in a box and stuck in a shed
kinda wish these iconic pieces wouldn’t end on “someone’s collection” but rather in a place where devoted fans could always appreciate the legacy of the movie and Judy Garland and Margaret Hamilton
You can tell whether the shoes were made for Bobbie Koshay (Judy's stunt double) or Judy's depending on the size of the shoe. Betty Danko and Margaret Hamilton actually had the same size hat though.
The Smithsonian should open up a section of Wizard of Oz memorabilia and buy all related props. I am certain it is well within its budget. The Wizard of Oz movie certainly is part of well remembered and documented American History.
Not her one-handing the slipper while casually asking an interview question. 💀 I’d be holding on to those slippers with both hands like my life depended on them.
Why is Margaret's hat up for auction? I thought it was on permanent display at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle as part of their collection. The hat sits next to Dorothy's dress and the original Cowardly Lion costume among other pieces from Wizard of Oz.
The shoes were on loan from a private owner. The shoes were stolen. The shoes were returned to the private owner who is now putting them up for auction. The Judy Garland Museum wants money to buy the shoes so they will own them and the ruby slippers will be a permanent part of the museum's collection.
They should be at the Judy Garland Museum. They are better off there where everyone can enjoy seeing them rather than some rich dude keeping them for themselves. I live an hour away from the museum and my father was born and raised in her home town(Grand Rapids,MN) and I always thought it was cool that the Ruby Slippers were there and that people could see them.
Imagine Tutankhamuns treasures being traded around like a commodity. At least they had the protection of a sealed tomb for 3000 years. Back at the auction, white gloves won't save them. Look at the shabby state of the shoes. At least the pair in the Smithsonian , hopefully, will escape the highest bidder.
I’m not sure why they would auction the slippers because they were stolen TWO decades ago, and now they’re giving them up for auction. For someone to take Home when they had just been stolen many years ago. I would think that they should keep them in the Judy Garland museum because it’s Judy’s home and they belong there.
I don't care what anyone says. You will never never convince me that these are the actual shows or hat in the original movie. I just can't do it. Someone is going to pay 3 million for some ol shoes. lol dear god.
I hear you loud and clear ... but in this case, I'm lead to believe the shoes were examined by the team at the Smithsonion who refurbished their original pair and discovered EACH pair contains a mis-mated shoe (size variation/construction) of which MATES to each one of the other pair. Safe to say they both were made for the film. *HOWEVER, it's FAR more speculative as to IF JUDY wore them (I suspect she did). Now, the hat ... I'd steer clear - I'd say impossible to validate.
There are four pairs in existence that were used for the filming. All four pairs were worn by Judy. One pair is at the Smithsonian, another pair at the academy of arts museum, the third and private collector bought (which is wrong, they should be in a museum.) just because you have enough money to buy them doesn’t mean you should keep them to yourself. This is the fourth pair and they sold for 28 million. I hope they don’t end up sitting in some billionaires house for their own selfish personal enjoyment.
The Wizard of Oz represents fond memories of back in the day of the yearly special event, family time around the living room console TV. Exception was made and we had snacks in the living room where eating and drinking was forbidden. Everyone was happy and elated to be watching it again. We were engrossed in the story from beginning to end. There’s no place like home. Good times!!!

I don’t think they were EVER bright red- they simply photographed that way … they were a deeper shade which registered in technicolor as bright red. * No different than her blouse which was tinted pink to appear WHITE on-screen. Tricks of the trade
If only there was a way, I could just borrow the slippers just to show my father. I don’t wanna steal them just to get special permission for them to ship them for my father to see and then ship them back to the Museum
There are several pairs (I think 4) of ruby slippers surviving. 2 of them are on display for the public: 1 at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington DC, and one at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, CA. You could reasonably take your father to see one of these pairs of shoes if you really wanted to.
I'd have to wear gloves too, 'cause those are dirty old nasty shoes. Garland was probably wearing those ugly things, when they had her poppin uppers&downers. The start of her addictions....f those ugly shoes!!! They have to be cursed somehow.
Those shoes should stay in a museum.
Exactly as Indiana Jones would say
There are 5 pairs and one pair it’s already in the Smithsonian.
right😍
Yeah unfortunately it’s all about money
Don't worry, those outside a museum will gradually degrade, making the museum piece more valuable.

I don't think that was EVER going to happen ... and Debbie knew that
@@ronronizetti2534 am curious..why do you think that?
I'm so confused if it got stolen from a museum, then isn't the museum the rightful owner?
Often artifacts in the museum are lent out by private collectors, movie studios, ect. They dont own much of what’s in there.

My guess is that there multiple hats and this is one of the hats.
Multiple hats like teh shoes, this one is from her opening scene as the witch
Yeah she's right.
There were at least 6 pairs made along with the gingham blue dress.
How long do we think till kim kardashian tries to wear them?

How much for Judy garland confession about Kennedy and the mirrors of an Oz shooting???
I don't know.. lighting, age, airbrushing. All I can tell you is Guy Pearce wasn't what I saw up on Grauman's in 1997..
