one thing that wasn't mentioned very often, is that the Ruby Slippers were made for the film, to really show off the incredible technological achievements of color filming. Many know that the shoes in the Oz Books, were in fact Silver Shoes, not Ruby Slippers but MGM decided to change them to the Ruby Slippers to really make them shine and sparkle bright especially in contrast to the Yellow Brick Road.
Honestly, I don’t see why they’re putting it up for action when really they should’ve been giving the slippers back to the Judy Garland Museum as soon as they were recovered from the thief. It’s kind of like a stolen child except the police give the child to another parent instead of the original the Judy Garland museum shouldn’t have to raise money in order to buy back what was stolen from them
They were only being temporarily loaned to the museum when they were stolen. If you were the owner of those shoes, you'd want to get back your investment too.
They were not the Judy Garland museum's slippers. They were on loan when they were stolen. The idiotic owner of the museum turned off the door alarms because kids were tripping them. They should never go back to that person, OR that museum, first and foremost. Secondly, the owner decided to sell them. They're his property. They do belong in a museum, but that's why people pay admission go to museums. So they can buy artifacts like this. If museums can't raise the funds, then, that's that.
RETURN THE SLIPPERS. They should not be auctioning these slippers, they will get destroyed if not properly cared for! They were the museums and deserve to stat there!
He’s wrong- Yes, Judy’s are size 5B but these are mismated with an alternate size. Also - if I’m paying MILLIONS I’d want to know their COMPLETE provenance while on the lamb (missing)!! What did the shoes go through?
Why is Margaret's hat up for auction? I thought it was on permanent display at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle as part of their collection. The hat sits next to Dorothy's dress and the original Cowardly Lion costume among other pieces from Wizard of Oz.
If only there was a way, I could just borrow the slippers just to show my father. I don’t wanna steal them just to get special permission for them to ship them for my father to see and then ship them back to the Museum
There are several pairs (I think 4) of ruby slippers surviving. 2 of them are on display for the public: 1 at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington DC, and one at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles, CA. You could reasonably take your father to see one of these pairs of shoes if you really wanted to.
I don’t think they were EVER bright red- they simply photographed that way … they were a deeper shade which registered in technicolor as bright red. * No different than her blouse which was tinted pink to appear WHITE on-screen. Tricks of the trade

I wish one of Glinda's item was there too.

So they asked for money donations to get the ruby slippers back just to put them up for auction 😂😂😂

@ well unfortunately my father has disability. He doesn’t drive and he doesn’t like to fly.
They should be in the Smithsonian.
The Smithsonian already has a pair.
why are they so dirty clean them up
They're nearly 100 years old did you expect them to still be bright red?

They probably lost their color over the years of light exposure.
