After grinding off the rivet head I drilled it out didn't have to take all that latch and rod apart, hopefully this helps somebody.

bro i feel that from 1:33 where you begin to take apart the tailgate handle to disconnect the rod to get to the in side part of that rivet you grinded, was very unnecessary you could have just kept grinding that same side after unhooking cable and eventually it would have just came off

The little nut and the locker are part of the cable assembly. That’s why he didn’t mention it. I’ve got Dorman 38534 for my 94 Sonoma. It already has the nuts and the lock spring.

Does anyone know where I can get the bolt that the cable connects to at the striker plate? The right side one fell out and I can't find it. It seems like a specific bolt but I can't find it any where. Lots of trucks were sold that use those bolts for the tailgate but no one seems to sell it. I can get new striker plates but they don't come with the bolts, if they came with the bolts I'd buy that. I'm willing to try another part if it will work. I have a 1994 GMC Sonoma, uses a lot of the same parts as the S10, this bolt looks just like the one I need.
