    To all the guys at 1A Auto... I wanted to thank you guys for the tutorials. Today, I got up the courage and knowledge from watching these videos to replace the radiator and shocks on my 2000 Chevy S10. Replacing the radiator was really easy. The shocks were a bit of a challenge as I had to use a sawzall to hack off the nut on the top of the front shocks as they were seized up. I paid $250 for my parts and installed them for absolutely nothing as I had all the tools I needed to complete the repairs. This was the very first time in my life I've ever done something like this. Thank you all again for the videos. They provided a lot of useful information.

    One thing you should add: It helps greatly if the front of the truck is raised on jackstands and that the wheels/suspension is just hanging. This allows the upper control arms to be in a position so you can better access the upper shock shaft nut. In my first attempt I used ramps but had to switch to jack stands so I could reach the upper nut.

    thanks for the video. just installed front and rear monroe shocks on my 98 s10. video was a big help. having the list of tools you have on the video helps so you dont have to go back and forth finding the right tool. FOR PEOPLE THINKING ABOUT DOING THIS AND USING JACK AND JACK STANDS ITS EASY. for the rear, use jack stands instead of screw jacks that he uses in the video to place under the leaf springs. jack the car up, place 2 jack stands under the leaf springs and VERY SLOWLY let down. NOTE; DONT LET OFF COMPLETELY! THE JACK WILL BE HOLDING 97% OF THE WEIGHT. the jack stands are just to keep the leaf springs from dropping any. ANYBODY CAN DO THIS. IT TOOK ME 1 and 1/2 HOURS. im 25 years old

    I believe you are referring to the lower control arm. With the correct tools it is a moderate replacement. Without the right tools don't even try it. It is very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. I'll ad this to my list of items to shoot a video on.

    The 4WD has 3 systemsto check. First the dash switch can go bad. Second, the transfer case shift motor can stop working or the wiring can get damaged. Third the axle is actuated by vacuum so either the vacuum actuator or solenoid could get damaged or a vacuum line could get damaged or disconnected. Use a multimeter to diagnose the switch and transfer case motor. Make sure there is vacuum to the axle actuator. If you find any of those parts are bad we sell replacements on our website.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    @OMARSIMENTAL It could, you may want to check the suspension pieces to see if they're worn or also if there's a possible broken spring.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  11 років тому

    You should order that specific for that vehicle. There's quite a bit to consider when dealing with spring rates, such as motor size and weight of the vehicle. The correct spring will ensure that you have a comfortable ride when going down the road.

    Second request for control arm/coil spring replacement. I'll do that video soon. I will use a lift but not very high then use a floor jack to support and lower the control arm. Much more safe. The tall jacks can get knocked over too easily.

    @PatriotsFanX9 Good Point, an S should shift on the fly, so try it in neutral. If this does work it is an indicator of a weak shift motor.

    @spelunkerd If you have a strut the shock and the coil spring will be set up as one assembly, and if it's not a strut the shock and coil spring will be separate from each other on the vehicle.

  • @1AAuto
    @1AAuto  12 років тому

    @supersanchez1991 We currently do not have an auto repair video of that particular repair. However you would need to remove the shock as shown in this video, compress the spring with a spring compressor, and unbolt some of the suspension pieces once the spring is compressed. These springs have a lot of compression and can cause serious inquiry if they're not taken out in the correct manner. You could also reference a repair manual such as a Chiltons or Haynes manual.

    I did this job and had one hell of a time because of those clips that hold in the bottom bolts. They broke and the bolts would not come out, they would just spin. There was no way to hold the clip to get the bolt off. It was extremely frustrating. I had to go out and buy a cutter.
    If you are dealing with rust, you will not be able to do this job without a cutter to get the bolts out if those clips break, and will need new bolts and clips. I was doing the job on the ground and not strong enough to push and hold the strut in place, so I used a car jack to hold it in place while I put the bolts in.

    I think you're referring to the little clips that have an extrusion through which the bolts thread up through. I broke one of these clips doing this job for my dad this weekend. So I cut the head of the bolt off cuz it wouldn't come out and just replaced the bolt with a new bolt, nut, and locking washer. This'll only work if the holes in that bracket are still intact.

    This would be similar since the truck in the video is 2WD as well.

    If you can get it to fit in there, you should be able to.

    I guess I'm a little confused by the description of shocks inside loaded struts for this vehicle. How do you tell on inspection if your vehicle has shocks or struts? Shock replacement seems easy, but I wouldn't want to loosen the wrong nut under tension.

    Quick heads up guys don't use a breaker bar to tighten your lug nuts use a torque wrench so you can get the right tightness for the lug nuts and watch using a jig saw to cut the the top of the shock oil tends to get in a lot of places on the truck especially if the shock is leaking it can be very flammable

    If it isn't the same it should be very similar. Here's a video that we also did on the rear shocks. Hope this helps you out. .ua-cam.com/video/NwvhT78juHI/v-deo.html&feature=plcp&context=C4441ac8VDvjVQa1PpcFMA78OAVN6CQAjG33fzZmKlTq3sA7og_og%3D
