  • First trip of the spring Capt. Mike of the Pacific Dawn took a chance on a long range day and a half trip. The seas were rough many people were sea sick and we did not catch a fish until we were headed home. If you want to skip to the catching it is at about the 20 minute mark. This school averaged 140-170 pounds. I was happy to share this trip with everyone that was on the boat. This is possibly the best crew I have ever fished with as far as keeping the PANDAMONIUM under control. Very few fish were lost everyone did a great job working together!

    I love the sticker that the Captain had on the sonar “Never Give Up”. That’s what makes for good boats and good trips. Even if we get skunked, it’s all good when the captain and crew work their butts off to try and put us on fish. Way to go hitting the walk off home run in the bottom of the ninth! Best feeling ever!

    I love the Pacific Dawn, captain Mike is known for his last minute heroics. He has 2 x 3 day trips in July and October, to bad I already book on other boats or I'd love to get back on his boat. He is such a die hard captain. Congrats Jim on your 2 huge fish!

    Really enjoying the content. Thanks for sharing.
    I really enjoy the thorough gear breakdowns of your gear and others gear on the boat.
    I'll be in SD for work in June. Doing my best to jump on a 2.5 day, if time allows; however, I'll settle for a 1.5.
    I too am a cousin Jim, so I can relate.
    Tight lines, and keep these vids coming.

    Nice end to what could have been a long boat ride. Imagine, NPBFT get to nearly 1,000 pounds. These are all pre-spawn juveniles. Come over at footballs, stay until 300-400-pounds, and return to their spawning grounds in the Sea of Japan. NPBFT are all one stock, as per DNA, so no proof (outside of some conjecture in the mid 80s at Guadalupe Island, but no proof until DNA testing) of them spawning anywhere else than the SOJ/PS area. Once they spawn, they stay in the west Pacific and cruise between the SOJ and New Zealand, often mixing with their cousins, the southern bluefin south of the Equator. As southerns 'only' get to about 500-pounds, any southern caught and submitted for a world or line-class record is required by the IGFA to be DNA tested to make sure it is not a NPBFT. WR for NPBFT is 907, caught off New Zealand. Imagine if we caught the post spawn 800-1,000-pound adults here? Wow, they are an impressive fish at any size, and quite remarkable, standing out among all species of tunas with an advanced endothermic system that allows them to cruise at all depths, and through very cold water. That gives them the edge over the big YFTs, (I know, it's a debate, and often more subjective than analytical) as they can sound faster into cooler water that would give a YFT a heart attack. Good job!

      thanks for the info! I thought these only grew to about 400 and were a different strain than the atlantic bluefin

    • @scottdanielsproject
      @scottdanielsproject 5 місяців тому +1

      All-tackle records for the three species of bluefin tunas: Atlantic, 1,496-pounds. Pacific, (the ones we catch on the west coast of US/Baja to 400-pounds) 907-pounds. Southern, 369-pounds.

    Pacific Dawn is such a great boat! me and my fishing friend have taken 3 trips with her and the Captain. everytime, we have killed it! The last one I did was the New Lo-An which was a made into a private charter with only 8 people... those extra wide sides make such a huge difference!!!! It's always fun to be able to have space to fight massive fish. Most of the time like here,you are grinding to get the fish up so you dont tangle with other people...I have tangled before with two other people who were also hooked up due to the fish making a random run, it was chaos! So when you can enjoy the fight and just take you're time, def cash in on that! Either way though,having a great Captain, like this man on the PDawn is what matters.
    Mad love the P-Dawn and there Crew!

    If you have 100 feet of line out at a 45 degree angle the depth of the end of the line is 70.71 feet. To calculate this, in your calculator enter the length of the line that is out, then hit the cosine button and then enter the angle you are out in degrees and the answer will appear. magic.
