The most amazing thing about this vid is that your dad is 90! Holy cow! I hope to be just as fit when I'm his age. Good stuff! I'm going tuna fishing for the first time this summer, and I'm gonna try to process the fish myself to save some $$$. We'll see how it goes. I've heard that it can be a physically demanding and time-consuming process. Thanks for the vid!
Firstly... I haven't seen Johnny's Seasoning in years and up in Alaska. Second.. I definitely need to go out fishing with you! Your slow days are even fantastic! I don't need giants.. Just some good eating fish. Great videos and keep it up.
@@cousinjim1 wow I see you caught a bigger fish on this trip, congrats Cousin Jim. Can you or do you remember the size of the Penn fathom reel that the drag blew up after he fought the fish for a hour and a half? That really would suck , but that’s fishing. Great video Jim and keep on bringing us the bloody deck and Tight Lines!
@@cousinjim1 I asked because I have the Penn fathom 30 and that is the reel I caught my 140 pounder on. I also have the Penn fathom 40 2nd generation and the Penn fathom 60 all two speeds but I like my speed master 16,20 and 25. Either way you look at it I’m ready
if the trip gets in early in the morning there are 3 processors waiting if later in the day you have to take them to them this trip we were 6 hours late but the captain called and asked them to meet us at the dock so I did not have to take my fish to them
Will the charters allow you to process your own tuna or is there a place at the harbor that allows anglers to process themselves? Here in Alaska, the harbors have fish cleaning stations and lots of people love to clean their own fish. We have a trip booked for May ‘25 with the Pacific Queen
Great content! Thanks for sharing your experience with Fisherman’s Processing. How many pounds of tuna did you get processed? And how many pounds did you end up with? My husband and I caught 589 lbs of tuna. We went with Five Star. After processing we got back about 200 lbs. Is the yield roughly the same with Fisherman’s Processing?
@@cousinjim1thanks for replying. We had four big ones that were over 100 lbs each, the biggest at 145 lbs. Two small ones caught on the fly at 24 lbs and 26 lbs.
Very cool. Comparing to how BF are cut up in Japan, with large extremely sharp knives, I’m surprised how small the knives are thet they use. Oh, and what do you do with all thst meat?
I never thought to ask that, but I’m thinking about what I’ve seen. I don’t think the meat ever touches the board the skin does and once they cut the skin away, the meat goes onto a tray could be wrong. I’ll have to watch next time. I’m there.
Jim 2.5 day trip pacific dawn 9/24-9/27 join the boat, it's an ultra limited load of just 15 anglers, let's goooooo I need you to hook up and hand me your lucky rod, I have been on 5 trips and have never broken the triple digit size tuna yet. I need your luck. 😂
Good video, thank you to Fisherman’s Processing for being so cordial. They will have my business 👍
they do a good job tight lines and big fish

it takes hours because our household vacuum packer only does one bag at a time, but it can be done.
If you get one over 100 pounds, I'd recommend you get it processed by the professionals.
@@random1883 agreed!
Nice video Jim, I'm going in June for some blue fin and have them booked to process my fish! Thanks for sharing!!
very good processer tight lines

@@Duhamal when I fished Alaska, I brought home three years worth of halibut and five years worth of salmon. I’d love to go fishing with you.
Fisherman’s processing is the best!! Some boats are contracted with them. I’ve gone to them for 4-5 years and their options/flexibility is unbeatable!
I sure enjoyed meeting them and their processing procedure is on point
Great video! How many days was your trip?
Usually one and a half to two days
This is a great video Jim, and wow your dad looks great, your entire family is beautiful, I hope to fish with you sometime.
hope to see you out there

Do you need to reserve fish processing in advance? What if i don't have fish, do they charge?

small fish about 30% fish over 100lb 35-40% is typical so your weights sound about right what size were your fish

Your dad is 90 and he looks like he could be your brother
yes he is a lucky man
How much was it to process your tuna?
$1.85 per pound I had just over 200# it will taste fresh for over a year
shouldve asked if that was saltwater or freshwater they used to rinse the boards.

How much does it cost to process your fish like this? How much did it cost you?
depends on the processor of your choice. For these guys its $1.85/lb i belive, for five star i think its $1.65/lb

The big question is:
Who washing the dishes...?
that's a good question
I'd hate to see their monthly electricity bill.
I would hate to pay it!
