Giertrude Birgitte Bodenhoff was a Danish socialite who died in 1798 at the age of just 19. For hundreds of years, a rumour persisted amongst Copenhageners that she had been buried alive. And in fact, a man even confessed to this. What's more, he also confessed that he had MURDERED her when she awoke as he was robbing her grave.

Note: 99.9% of the images used in this video are for illustrative purposes only, as there is only one single image (a drawing) of Gertrude and nothing else from her life/husband/etc during the time she was alive. So I've used relevant images to illustrate the story; all images used are in the public domain.
Also in the public domain are the vintage film clips I used, which are from "Eyes in the Night" (1942), "Maniac" (1934), and "City of the Dead" (1960) respectively.
If you'd like to do some more reading yourself on the legend, see the sources. I used below (all are in Danish however). Please note that, as the story happened in the 1700s, there are MANY variations of it. For example, many versions don't mention Gertrude's connection to the grave digger and simply imply it was an act completed by a complete stranger. After all this time, we will never know for sure - but I've included it in my version anyway.

Very interesting video. I have read that Gertude died at a ball after having, by accident, overdosed herself in order to be able to enjoy the evening without any pain? Also that her coffin was placed in a gravediggers shed temporarily?
