A bit of advice. I'd drop all the unnecessary weight to make casting easier and fly action better . Shorten the wire to 12-16" and loose all the swivels and clips . Would also start with unweighted flies or maybe VERY lightly wired no a 5g jig ( less chance of breaking the tip 😂) would also loose the stinger hook and shorten the fly if needed . You'll be surprised how much of a difference a quality line makes !! Just a good solid foundation for someone new to fly fishing
@@SnaggedBro The line controls the fly. Use light flies - even "boby flies" that never sink to the bottom, unless youuse an ultra heavey line, and let it sink to the bottom, and then retreive line fast. I often used small foam flies when fishing salmon sea trout, on a super fast sinking line. It's kinda like fishing drop shot-ish. Even in slow water it rarely hooks the bottom. And use the smallest hooks possible - like when you are touching them with your fingers, they almost hok by them selves.
@snaggedbro I learned through experience that using fluorocarbon as a leader + 49-strand Partridge Bauer pike wire makes my flies swim deeper than when using nylon as a leader. Flies that kept floating initially got “dragged down” because of the FC sinking. I use 40/00 mm Stroft FC and then 40-45cm of Bauer Pike Wire with loops on either end secured with a meltknot and some shrink tube to cover the frayed ends when you trim the wire trace. The FC leader I make myself as well is about 100cm for a sinking fly line and 130cm for a floating line. But that is always personal for every other angler. And I agree, ditch the cheburaska weight! That’s an accident waiting to happen!
Oh brilliant! Love to see it, boys. Casting motion looks good. Fly fishing is definitely harder than fishing with conventional gear, but worth it! For me, one pike caught on the fly is worth like 3 on regular gear. Invest in a fly line that concentrates mass/weight close to the fly (a.k.a and "aggressive short taper"). It let's you load the road easier and faster and you won't have to make so make so many false casts - saving your shoulder a bit of stress. The other benefits are it helps you power a bigger fly out there, even in a bit of wind. And for we canal fishers, a line with an aggressive taper means that you don't need such a long back cast, which keeps your fly out of unwanted places like trees, walkers, cyclists, drug deals, etc.
Fantastic. I did fly fishing for bass, plus tip white fly with bread for mullet years ago. Now it's rather common. Had 16lb 2oz biggest bass, plus 7lb mullet 😊
Another crackin' video chaps. Nice to see you both back on the bank. I've been holding off on sending you an updated pike prayer, but as you mentioned them, here's the full version... Our pike gods, Who art in snags, slacks and reedbeds. Hallowed be thy name. Thy hit will come. Thy Dutch cast be done, In Brum as it is in Holland. Help us this day to set the hook, And forgive us our silliness. As we forgive John Smith's drinkers in crocs, And lead us not into bream swims, But deliver us a double. For thine is the canal, The river and the farm pond. Forever and ever. Ya breath!

I've always fancied fly fishing for perch on my local canal, but it always seems like it's an over complicated method compared to throwing soft plastics on a lure rod
3wt rod, weight forward line. A fluorocarbon leader and a size 12 olive green damsel fly. It'll cost you about £60 all in for a cheap set up and easy to learn
Might pay to cast unweighted flies in the cut lads until your casting improves. Good weight forward floating line will help also. Nice to see a new vid and you taking on fly fishing for pike. I have had some great days on the cut with the fly rod . If your around walsall id be happy to meet up and give you a few pointers

Love the new video bro absolutely class something different with the fly fishing lol but doubles only 😂😂 and I was also wondering if yous have the pike flys back in stock yet but as always tight lines bro 👍🤜🏻

Great video lads - good to see you out doing what you do best - making fishing fun, accessible and results that are easy to emulate. I’m fed up of these funny, good looking, glamorous guys, like Carl, Ginger Fisherman, and the rest of them, going out and catching loads of fish and making it look simple, so us sweaty and aesthetically challenging folk feel worse about ourselves. You’re keeping it real, thanks.
I'm far from good my self but try this guys? 3 or 4 times loading the fly line then let the line go on the final forward cast and your line should shoot out. Promise your arms will thank you after a day at it. Love you videos ❤
Brierley hill road eh? That spot used to be amazing for pike fishing. If ya get time in the future, head towards the factories, over the lock and head up. Keep going until the canal veers off to the left, that stretch is called the Dead arm. Biggest pike caught there was 19lb. Amazing how places look so picturesque on camera, yet in reality, the opposite is true. Just be careful, rough as nails round there.
Great stuff! I also only targeted only double figure fish in my first year lure fishing last year. I will let you guess how many i caught. Ok, blooming none!

Totally agree, you can see when he casts that the fly is too heavy.
Thanks for the tips guys! We struggled with the fly sinking, any advice on that?
