Stopped 2 and half minutes in to comment and subscribe as soon as I heard Sometimes a Great Notion, I loved that book and I hardly ever hear it mentioned in any online book talk. Also, very jealous of that collection of NYBR paperbacks.
@@Barklord That’s a great observation. I read Dead Souls in the 80s for college. Maybe it’s time to read again. I will be reading JR in 2025 starting in September for 12 weeks. It’s a novel to read slowly.
Omg. The monkey's paw. I first heard this story at the age of 14. I was staying in a caravan on holidays in the middle of winter. It was pitch dark and it came on the BBC World Service on the radio. Perfect atmosphere and i didnt sleep well that night. 😂
I read Hard Rain Falling and some others by Don Carpenter and they were good. While the others were good, Hard Rain is my favorite. Also read True Grit (a Looong time ago) and the Fisherman and both were great reads.
I’m reading The Electric Kool Aide Acid Trip: by Tom Wolfe . Great book thus far and Ken Kesey is quite the character. On chapter 3 Against The Day. Need to make more time to read.
This is the best of these sorts of lists I've seen in a while. Thanks for your top-notch selection of these top-notch books, Greg.
Thanks so much.
I’ve read _True Grit_ but all the rest sound really interesting. Thanks for planting the seeds. 🌻
Lots of new stuff to me, definitely adding some to my fiction list to get to someday. Great vid Greg

@@jordonvh91 I haven’t anyone else talk about Sometimes a Great Notion either.
What a great list. I’ve barely read any of them but Paul Auster’s 4321 is certainly on my list for next year 😊
An interesting list! I have only read one out of the bunch, and while a couple of others were already on my TBR a few more may have joined them...
The Monkey’s Paw scared the begeezus out of me! 😂
@@FranklyItsMe The Fisherman is just as scary.
Love seeing Vollmann on this list. I can’t decide if I like The Dying Grass or Fathers and Crows more.
@@Etherchannel I can’t between Fathers and Crows or The Dying Grass either. I have scheduled FAC for a reread this year.
The premise of JR sounds similar to Gogol's Dead Souls. I might give it a try. Thanks

I'll be starting Jerusalem in January with a friend. I've heard such good things about it.

I liked _Hard Rain Falling,_ a lot, too (and want to reread it in 2025) 📚
I really liked 2666 by Roberto Bolaño, a great novel.

@@knapalo I enjoyed EKAAT . Freaky.
12 overrated books 🥱
You can always create your own list.
