When he says he was finally ready to re-emerge into society in January 2020 it gave me shivers. Literally a month before covid hit and sent him right back inside on his own...
He wasn't on his own, he lives with his girlfriend. And before January 2020 he directed a movie, starred in a movie, directed some specials. He wasn't inside 'again', as he was still very active.
@@liamcoppock5187 I think that they meant that he was ready to re-emerge into performing live again because even though he’s done some projects before covid, he wasn’t physically performing in front of an audience. I think it’s hard to be inside because he was ready to go out and continue his performances in front of the public. This is just my interpretation though :)
@@liamcoppock5187 you seem a little angry, but i believe they are talking about performing live comedy which he did about 5 years ago because of panic attacks
@@liamcoppock5187 Not trying to be mean, but why in God's green fucking Earth did you call Riccardo marini a "crack head" and a "Moron"? What did he do, except tell you their opinion? What did they do to wrong you? What's making you so angry?
@@liamcoppock5187 haha why u so mad dude
Bruhhhhhh. Absolutely do the ones you mentioned but also “Can’t Handle This” and “That Funny Feeling” are on UA-cam
Oh legit. Will do
Didn’t expect to see you here, just be bored!
Art is Dead, too. 👍
Brad has some epic reactions to Bo, his reaction to this very song was amazing. Also, I second those 2 songs as a must, plus there's a laundry list of them that go forever in past but those are usually forgotten. (God's perspective, Art is Dead, left brain right brain)
@@royce7200 yes those 3 are excellent additions to react to
I'm going to add to what everyone else has already covered.
*Bo is a genius.
* HIGHLY recommend you watch Can't Handle This (Kayne Rant) then revisit All Eyes On Me.
* Inside is performance art at its finest. The individual songs won't make as much sense out of context.
💯 true. I feel the same way. He is such an amazing artist. Just him sharing part of what it's like inside his mind makes me anticipate the next piece of art he decides to create. Whether it be a film, live performance, or whatever it may be, I have no doubt it will be fantastic. He is definitely one of a kind❤
Watching the Netflix special is a must.
It puts this song and his lyrics into context and really makes it that much more powerful.
oh wow ok!
It is the same take and all the performances are live. He filmed, directed, edited, wrote all the songs by himself. There is no “they”. He did every single thing himself. You have to watch the special.
Let’s be honest, Bo is a legend and anyone watching a reaction video is waiting for this 7:39
🙏🏼
That part just hits different
And what about the Lyrics?
This song takes on a COMPLETELY different meaning after watching the full special, understanding the whole story, watching the slow decline, culminating in this song.
As a very simplified summary- this whole special was created right smack in the middle of COVID lockdowns. As Bo mentions, he had just started to come out of deep depression/anxiety and was ready to re-enter society, and then society fell apart and shut down, sending him right back to where he was. Finally he musters the strength to create this special, and basically locked himself in his room for an entire year while he created it. At the beginning of the special, it's normal, funny Bo Burnham songs.
Then at the halfway point of the special (literally to the second) the clock strikes midnight on his 30th birthday, bo explains his goal was to finish this special before his 30th birthday, and here he is, only halfway done. Another "failure" of his. The special starts getting darker and darker at this point, beard/clothes getting more and more disheveled, as Bo starts slipping deeper & deeper into depression, starts talking about having suicidal thoughts, how he hasn't taken a shower or done laundry in 9 days, etc, culminating in this song. "You say the oceans rising, like I give a shit. You say the world is ending, honey it already did". Because the world is ending outside (COVID, climate change, chaos, etc) but his world has already ended over and over from his depression. Switching back & forth between "get your fuckin hands up" and "heads down, pray for me" as he keeps falling back into depression. "It's almost over, it's just begun" as he thinks he's getting through depression and then dives right back into it. "You're not gonna slow it, heaven knows you've tried. Got it? Good. Now get inside" as his depression convinced him there's no reason to interact with society. Nothing will change, he's helpless, just stay inside.
Well put.
Watching you react to his break about his anxiety is the realest moment I’ve ever seen. Your eyes looked like you were ready to cry for him, showing how deeply you connect with the moment. Love this reaction man
Talented is an understatement. Everything you watched and heard was all him and him alone.
I like the amount of commenting you did on the video editing. Bo is just as much a visual artist as he is a comedian or musician imo. The whole special takes place in that one room. The amount of different atmospheres he can create throughout its duration using only his own lights and editing is insanely impressive.
Edit: it also adds extra effect in the context of the special because this is one of the last songs, and at the end of it, he finally picks up the camera, spinning it around and showing how small and cramped his workspace has been over the past year. The cheering crowds continue to add so much contrast to what feels like such a private space.
Dude Ive loved Bo Burnham for years let’s go! This guy is super genuine. Loved the reaction
So pumped man! Let’s do it!
@@JacobRestituto the Audience Queue were all added. He produced and created all of this. Now i want you to imagine... Him singing to the track, Alone. Gives a depth to what he talks about.
I 100% recommend watching his Netflix special in its entirety. So good. All his specials are.
So happy you're reacting to Bo! He's pretty diverse in terms of the instruments / formats / genres he weaves into his songs so you'll have a lot to chew on. People may want you to react to their favorites based on the lyrics/deeper meanings, but the reason I like your reactions is because you're able to break down the instrumentation and production for us the way other reactors can't. So, I recommend "Welcome to the Internet", that one is really interesting musically -- lots of key changes, instruments layered throughout, and tempo changes. "Straight White Man" has an awesome piano solo using weird minor / chromatic chords, would love to hear your insight on that. "We Think We Know You" is entirely unique in terms of how it layers in new musical elements throughout the song. Cheers Jacob, looking forward to the next one!
Yo, so glad to see you react to his stuff! In case you didn't know, the special that this is from was made ENTIRELY by Bo, by himself, in one room, over a year. The songs are awesome, but the whole special is such an experience too, just seeing him get slowly worse and worse, while still performing.
Adding my vote to That Funny Feeling!
Omg have you done his Kanye rant??? It kinda preludes this song. It's from his last special 5 years ago. Please react to that!!!
Yes I second this!
Yes! "All Eyes on Me" is kind of a spiritual successor to "Can't Handle This" :)
Another vote here for Can't Handle This as it gives extra perspective on this song. Also if you are going to watch the whole Inside special watch Art is Dead, a straightforward piano piece from early in his career but a song that gives insight into the way he views himself and the industry he's in. It's very relevant to some of the themes of Inside.
Bo did this entire special on his own...
Let that sink in
Amazing!
One thing to note in his songs on Inside - with every repetition of the bridge and chorus there is always new added meaning - the first "all eyes on me" part is just like a standard riff on crowd hyping. Then after the verse where he talks about anxiety and finally being ready to re-enter the world, the second "all eyes on me" and "hands up pray for me" has more pain behind the words. Bo is masterful at this kind of story telling. The later use of the crowd sounds feel like needles rather than joy.
There is no "they"... he did this all on his own with no one around.
You have a very fine tuned ear for production
Appreciate the honesty and instananious, non embellished and unbiased reaction.
Just watched this. Love your reactions. Didn´t know you were fighting anxiety. I hope you´re doing great and keep up the amazing work. Regards from Mexico.
This song is freaking amazing and I feel it to my core! also-best reaction yet. Im a person that hears and feels all of the background stuff that others may pick up and while other reactions hear it too, you described exactly things I was feeling. I call it my music neediness lol. Awesome!
The video was done using a projector. He's feeding the camera signal into a projector and using that as the lighting as well. If you watch the full special you see a lot of these little production tricks and it's fantastic.
oh sick!!
Did a quick scan of the comments section and I didn't see this talked about, so I thought I'd drop it in.
You mentioned how cool the video layering is. If you notice in the top left of the projected image, there's a camcorder timestamp and the battery level. My interpretation is that he is running 2 cameras while shooting this, the one that's actually recording the video and a 2nd camcorder that's hooked up to a projector. So the 2nd video layer is what he's doing just a half step behind as the camera processes it and sends it to the projector to be projected onto him/the wall. The projector seems to be sitting slightly left of the main camera as you can see his shadow on the wall behind him slightly to the right. Though I don't see if he has a 3rd camera for his closeups or if that was a separate take or if it's the same main camera just super zoomed in on his face in post. I'm trying to think back to how the lighting was hitting his face to try and determine if he would have been standing in the same orientation to the light with his face turned slightly towards it so that when he looks askance it's directly into the camera or if it was definitively a 2nd take.
Bo seems to do all of the lighting and camera effects live (or I believe in multiple takes such as in Welcome to the Internet where the camera angle changes as you can't see (or at least I can't) any additional cameras in the main wide angle view) in this special with only some minor post production with zooming and such.
Woahhhh Mr Restituto!!! You've come SO FAR!! in just the few months I've been watching you. Not only is Bo one of my favorite artists, but your commentary on the musicality and production of the art has greatly improved. I barely read music, so I highly appreciate your explanations. My recommendations for future Bo reactions: Art is Dead, That Funny Feeling. I highly recommend the whole special though. Maybe after you react to the songs, and/or do a livestream.
I'm doing an analysis on this song (amongst others) for school, and this was the first and basically only video that gave musical term words to the things I was hearing but couldn't quite give words to myself, which was incredibly helpful! I learned a lot about the instruments that Bo used like a vocoder and synths, but also things like formant shift, which I didn't know it was called that. Thanks so much for your video!
Thank you for reacting to Bo. Sorry about the shitty commenters, I don’t think they’re being generous at all while you’re spending all of your time making stuff for us for free. Thank you for everything you’re doing. I look forward to more Bo! All of his content is worth it.
Even if you don't review the whole thing, you need to experience the creativity and genius of the "Inside" special. The production value and creativity for him being alone is INSANE.
Okay this channel and Suffi Reax are such a good combination.
One only goes into the details of the lyrics, their possible meanings and the video, what it could mean.
The other one here only goes into the production, the music and the tone of the voice, I love it.
My obsession with this song led me to your channel. Great review of the song. You seem like a cool, knowledgeable dude. Thanks for posting 😊
My pleasure!
Love your take as a professional, brilliantly done!
Thank you
I think his projector camera is in front of him, projecting him over himself live. Like he covers it with his hand to make the whole scene go dark.
It was so cool to hear your thoughts and explanations for this! So rad! Thanks 💫
Thanks!
That moment at the beginning when he goes from looking off into the distance to staring into my soul and saying "are you feeling nervous, are you having fun?" Is life ruining. Like I can't hide from him.
Oh wow
I think the large projection of bo in the background adds the visual element of simulating a crowded statium where artists performance is shown up on a big screen with a slight delay! i thought it was a super clever choice with the projector
"They say the ocean is rising. Like I give a shit. You say the whole world's ending? Honey, it already did. You're not gonna slow it, Heaven knows you tried. Got it? Good, now get inside."
This shit is fucking powerful, everything else almost feels like only gravy to that statement.
😲
I’ve been having social anxiety for 5 years and in the beginning I thought the process would be impossible. I still struggle with it but it’s A LOT better. I really relate to this song and hug me home and I am so glad he released it.
I’m really happy to hear about your progress
If there's one song in this special that makes me almost cry and definitely makes me hold my breath every single time, it's All Eyes On Me... it's that "get up, GET UP! GET THE F UP!" and then going back to singing but holding the camera and imagining the crowd cheering him on.... it's that descend into madness of feeling so done and alone and overwhelmed that you just... kinda lose it... and it fucking hurts. Every. Single. Time.
wild!!
This is the first time I’ve ever heard the actual mechanics of a vocoder explained - really neat to learn!
Glad to hear that!
Yoo you should absolutely watch the whole special. He did everything himself alone in a room.
Wow
Honestly, all of the songs on this special are truly fantastic. You should definitely check out “Can’t handle this (Kanye Rant)” off his special Make Happy too. It’s also brilliant. 💜
I really appreciate your comments on this, I definitely feel like your reaction added something to the experience, which is not always the case with reactors.
Really enjoyed this reaction
I appreciate that
I love that you're more interested in the technical side of things, I often miss a lot of those details. But the line "you say the oceans rising like I give a shit, you say the whole world's ending, honey it already did..." is the single best bit of the entire special.
:D
Bruhh I watched bo yearssss ago and I’ve heard this song in the last few months but had no idea it was him. I’ve known him as much more of a comedian so I was completely taken by surprise. That man’s so talented
Wild!!
I loved your reaction, I have tentatively subscribed.... You seemed to really be listening and having genuine feedback... Bless you
thank you so much!!!
"....then the funniest thing happened"
He's saying all his anxiety and everything came back. That's what makes this song so powerful to me. At least that's the way I interrupt it
😓
January 2020? And something funny happened? I’m think more along the lines of a worldwide pandemic.
You say "they" when it's literally just him in his room doing everything himself. Makes it exponentially more impressive.
wow
Bo won 3 Emmys of the 6 Nominations...should've won them all
Please do more Bo Burnham!!
Yes!!! Good stuff!!
There’s a version of this song transposed with what sounds like it could be the raw original vocal...but definitely speaks to what you said about the 1/3 drop. Just search this song transposed...it’s actually a great version in and of itself
OMGGGG REACT TO MORE BO BURNHAM PLEAAAASEEES
That laugh at the end though…. It almost felt like it was his anxiety, trying to push its way back into the song.
I really, really hope this guy went and watched Bo Burnham: Inside. That docu-musical is fucking amazing. I feel like All Eyes on Me is the anthem for covid lockdown and i think its eerie that we went through it, but kids in say 30 years time are gonna look back, find this song and not really understand the emotion behind it.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
jacob you should really see more of bo burnhams stuff, and i’m not just talking about his most recent special xD
been watching the guy for a couple years, i wanna hear your thoughts on his stuff :P
Would this be a you react to his song while reacting to you reacting to yourself reacting to his song?
Really enjoy your reactions think they are fantastic how you explain all the musical nuances, you should watch inside outakes it shows bo's approach and how he made his songs and to a degree how much he had to do to perfect what he wants to do and portrait.
Thanks!
Bo Burnham won a whole Grammy for this no joke 😮
when he use is hand to cover the light (3:09) to create the dim atmosphere is so clever
🔥
I'm pretty sure the only effect on his voice in this song is he downshifted his voice, there is a video up shifting it (idk music terminology) and it sounds like his real voice
Transpose/transposition is the term for what you're referring to.
I usually watch your BTS/TXT reactions, but I'm super glad to see Bo on your channel too. You work your ass off 👍
At 7:50 did you say he pulled an Elliott Smith? haha hard to hear but that is spot on. Love that your mind went to him, such an underrated songwriter and so skilled with overlaying vocals
😮
He is projecting the video of himself from his phone's camera onto the wall behind him.
@3:36, To the Right (our left) of Bo, is his phone on a stand. It is connected via Bluetooth (I believe) to his projector onto the wall behind him.
@3:11, when he grabs his phone, you can see how that lighting effect is created, as the light from the phone is partially blocked, and that projected onto the wall as well.
He did all of this. Alone. In his room. During the pandemic. I highly recommend the entire special. The scene directly leading to this song gives a whole new perspective of the little narrative he tells in the middle of the song.
It's already been said a lot, but Bo Burnham is a genius.
You sir have earned a new sub today.
So I think what he did to shoot the video is he had the camera recording him which then ran into projector on to him.
Yes sir, it's formant shift on the voice. I think you're the only reaction I've seen that picked up on the fact that it's not just plain auto tune or pitch shift!
Ever listened to Creeks by Bon Iver. Mostly vocoder, and it's incredible.
You’re gonna love welcome to the internet
I love this song by Bo Burnham! You need to watch the Netflix special! Amazing 🙏🏻
more!!! more bo!!!!!!!
More to come!
It sounds major because of the synth and autotune. But it's actually d sharp minor
Oh wow
I’d love to see him breakdown Turmoil & Tinfoil and how the two less-common genres blend.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
@@JacobRestituto be careful though, Billy Strings tends to either inspire guitar playing OR… make folks feel they should just give up now 😂
“January 2020” He dealt with all that for 5 years. He decides he’s ready to come back and bang.. quarantine. He’s forced to go back in. That’s where the lyrics “Got it, good. Now get inside” like oh, you thought you were ready cool. Now go back in anyways because the world is shut down.
oh wow
the vid behind him is just a projection of live feed from camera with a delay. its not a different take
Hi Jacob I think you should react to heaven is you by Joshua basset it’s really good and I think that you will like it.
You should react to can't handle this (Kanye rant) first before diving into songs from this special. It was his last performance before he quit for 5 years ago. It'll explain some things.
It was live btw broski
thanks
You need to see the special to understand this uwu
Reminds me alot of a satire of cody carnes
🙏🏼
❤️❤️
You're not wrong. It basically is 'Canon' :p
I feel like post malone and bo could use this to make an absolutely deadly track.
Legit
As A person who don't have any friends, this song makes me wanna think I can make 0-1 friends. This is not a pity thing.
Team Tuto are your friends ❤️
Imagine him live...
Wild
1:13 Do you mean Pachelbel's Canon?
thanks!
He literally did this all himself inside that room he is in right now. He never left it, he had food delivered he never left for a year and made a masterpiece
Snap
Could you also react to the Bo Burnham reacts to Bo Burnham who is reacting to Bo Burnham?
Lol
I was wondering if you could you take a look at Against the Current? Some recent songs you could look at is "lullaby" or "weapon" . You don't have to do a full discography on them, I just want to hear your opinion on them from a musician's point of view.
Clicked this so damn fast
I'd love it if you break down the synth recipe for us less talented music nerds
🙏🏼🙏🏼
i hope that i am among those that have seen "inside" and understand the irony of these reaction videos.
Yesss
pshhhhh 🙌🔥😊
Here's a video about how he did his filming, editing, etc: ua-cam.com/video/oq5M7X3d7Uo/v-deo.html
Thanks!!
omg you have the same last name as my bf
😲😲
All his stuff is 1 take. Check is early YT stuff
So good
The way the lyrics completely went over his head.. The production aspect is interesting to look into, but you need to pay attention to what Bo is saying in his songs too, otherwise there's no point in reacting to his stuff. It begs to be listened and understood.
Just because he didn't comment on the lyrics doesn't mean they went over his head. There are plenty of other videos where people analyze the meaning more, but I thought hearing about the production side of things for once was really interesting
Nah, there's already plenty of reactions talking about the lyrics. It's good to see something different. Nobody ever talks about the production.
Yeah the music and editing was great but did you actually listen to what he's saying?
For sure
If you focus on the performance and the production, you will miss everything.
😮
I think you should watch and ingest the artwork and be present in it once before you go through and review it. This had a very scientific and technical tone that almost entirely skipped over the emotional depth and lyrical context. Somethings are better experiencing with your heart bro. Peace.
🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Hack? Lol
