I'm not sure whether you noticed the insane irony when you said it, but you complemented him for not shying away from using a simple songwriting technique when he rhymed "complicated" with "complicated." By doing so, you implicitly critiqued a ton of songwriters for trying to be more lyrically "complicated," which was exactly the same critique Bo was making in that lyric: "Entertainers like to seem complicated, but we're not complicated." This line can be considered 'autological,' meaning it describes itself. It's a line that explicitly promotes characteristic simplicity while also implicitly demonstrating lyrical simplicity. Brilliant songwriting and brilliant commentary.
I absolutly LOVE Bo Burnham hes one of my role-modles my dad first introduced him to me before he sadly passed away, and whenever i listen to him he just brings back lovely memories💜💜
I used to work at an amusement park and there were some celebrities who purchased special treatment where they and their entourage were escorted the the park and didn’t have to wait in lines. Others dressed normally and stood in line. I would never point them out because I respected their choice, but I might quietly say “enjoy your ride Mr. Spielberg”.
Loving the Bo reactions, great vid! There's a ton of material I think you'd love - Left Rain Right Brain, Rant, From God's Perspective, pretty much any of his newer songs from Inside in order since they impact you even more that way. Art Is Dead always gets me and it's one of his earlier songs, it's kind of crazy.
Brett Dennan - Ain’t no reason is a good social commentary song, but my favorite is Asher Roth - A Milli… my favorite part is “yeah you got a mil, but forreal no body cares if you don’t share, if you don’t donate to charity, children who can barely eat, no shoes on their feet. We don’t see, we don’t read, we don’t really need to. Self centered humans are the root of all evil.” Haha Asher Roth gets pretty savage when he isn’t talking about smoking weed at parties!
@ around 4m10s, your thoughts on a different progression for the song were really solid. "Makeup, makeup, makeup, make up a story, I'll be the actor------" I'd love to see someone make some sort of extended fan-version of the song with a verse using that.
My concept for "I'm wearing makeup" going into a different verse was "Make up a story, it has to be funny To take all the money from all of the children And all of the parents who let little Clarence Watch an adult comedy show that might influence his fucking actions To them I'm an idol, as I'm sitting idle Wondering why my life isn't fulfilling It's all just an act, I'm just a poser [Repetition of poser, then song continues as normal]"
My name is Jacob, too. I just found Bo Burnham the other day, and I think he's a genius. It's really comforting to hear him reflect thoughts parallel to my own perspective of my experiences.
"Repeat stuff" is his take on the state of modern pop music. I think you'd enjoy it, but I will warn you he has some dark humor. (watch the music video, not the live performance)
@@yuugur666 don't get me wrong, the live version is amazing. But in the live version most people don't understand his random demonic outbursts, it doesn't make sense to them. At least it clicks for most people when watching the music video.
One of the best things about this song is that he was 19 when he performed it.
This was the last song of his I heard before I listened to his recent stuff, it's crazy how much he's changed. He sounds completely different now

WOW
Ok calm down. You don’t have to flex on me so much with your knowledge and rhyming abilities. No but I see what you did there. Great comment.
I will be regurgitating this perspective for the rest of my life. Thank you for making me seem smarter than I actually am

His piano playing in The Chicken from the Inside Outtakes is so incredible

Yes please keep doing all his videos, I'll watch all of them. He's got over a decade of work so you'll have tons to go through

Nice writing

I kind of prefer the live performance tbh I think it captures the message a little better but both are great
Nah, live performance is much better
