I think the Chile they use are Hatch Green Chile since it was the season for them recently (Sept or so). Everything in stores are Hatch in the Fall around here (NJ). I buy several pounds at the market and go home and roast them in the oven (wish I had one of those huge roasters the folks use in New Mexico at harvest time.) I have them for burgers every year. So good.
I worked at a Carl's Jr. back in the early 90s while going to high school. The green chilies came in a large can. Not fresh or grilled at the restaurant. I really like the Santa Fe sauce, a little kick, but not ridiculously spicy.
Years ago Carl's Jr sold the Calfornis Roast Beef the featured green chili's. It was really good. My father, God rest his soul, LOVED them. I made my own version of this burger at home but I used NY Rye bread. I roasted my Anaheim chili's in a ribbed cast iron pan and they turned out beautiful. The only cheese I eat is pepper jack. A PJ quesadilla on corn tortillas with green chili salsa for dipping is BOMB!! Simple, fast & tasty AF!!
For those that haven’t experienced a Hatch New Mexico Chile. You are missing out! Nothing like it in the world. I lived there back in 2006 and every year I find a way to get 150 lbs of chilies to hold me over until the next season.
The origins of the green chile cheeseburger: The most popular story has it that the burger was born at the Owl Bar and Café in San Antonio, New Mexico, when scientists working on the Manhattan Project would come in and order cheeseburgers with a side of green chile. The Owl Cafe is still serving up the green chile burger. Blake's Lota Burger was the first commercial burger joint to include it on their menu and back in the 1970s they were REALLY good!
March: Fried Dessert Pizza Pizza Dough rolled out to slightly smaller than a cast iron Shallow fry it in cast iron Add dessert ingredients (Cinnamon Sugar, peaches, strawberries, Nutella, you get to pick) Serve like a pizza
OK Sam. In Red bluff Ca. Is where Shari's Café and pies is right of the 5. They serve stuffed hash browns. Absolutely delicious. Let's see you give that a try. I'm sure you could add a twist!
TIP: Try roasting peppers, tomatoes, onions, etc. in an air fryer. It works great. Just spray it brush then with oil and go. It's never failed me. JUST THE TIP 🤣
I’ve bitched about “bottom lettuce” to Hardee’s for years but it’s their thing. Actually, if you get a burger and eat it within a couple of minutes the lettuce doesn’t have time to wilt like that. If you put a hot piece of meat on top of lettuce, IT WILTS!
Heat rises. When you put the vegetables on top of the heat source / hamburger they get cooked and wilted even faster worse. Main problem with wilted fast food burgers with the whole lettuce leaf slices is they're just wrapped up in foil holding in the Heat and then stuck in a paper bag making sure they hold in the Heat and wilt the damn lettuce. 🙄
Make the Whataburger Hatch Green Chile burger once the Hatch green chile harvest hits, HEB sell Hatch for like $1/pound during harvest season here in West Texas
For a long time.Carl's Jr was my favorite of the big national burger joint chains. But over the last 3 years or so, it seems like quality has dipped a little and service has dropped a lot, all while prices have remained steadily higher than competitors.
In Chile we have "Ají Verde"...that looks like the one on the Carls Jr's burguer... I dont thnik they use this variety of chili.... but you never know...
First... Always use Hatch (Anaheim) chilies. Second... You should always do side by side pictures of the expected burger, the actual burger and the Sam version burger.
I like Carl's Jr. However I always delete the lettuce and always add the green chilies to any burger, beef or chicken. I also usually add guacamole and bacon. I really miss the Chili Cheese burger they used to have (red chili, no beans).
And their chili cheese fries!!! That was one of my go-to's in high school lol. That and/or the small bacon ranch burgers that were like a buck each.. those were the good times..
This was so cool to see. I live in Tennessee and taste test promo items at Carl Jr Corporate. I taste tested that chile burger and it was not good but your version looks to die for. Thank you! Love your channel
Sam, I would really love to see you guys do some kind of series that is centered around crockpot/slow cooker meals. It could even be somthing similar to the smashburger month you did?
For all that's holy, please throw some bacon on that burger. I use a torch to roast the peppers to keep a little crunch. Cut them so it looks like relish and mix in softened cream cheese. Stuff that into the patty and grill. Stuffed burgers are the best.
You need to look up and make pueblo slopper and give that a go. We have something similar to the hatch chili in it but we are famous for them here. It's a burger with green chili stew smothered on top. Perfect for this time of the year. If you need the recipie for the green chile I can send mine over. It's top notch!
I like how he cuts up the cold one and makes them try it, than eats the fresh one right in front of them 😂 that’s my kind of story, it’s no fun tell someone eats a cold burger!
Guys, take away your dad's short tongs and replace them with long handled tongs, OK? 🙂 To make it even easier, get put diced green chilies in the sauce. Still will get full coverage.
Made this, and it is delicious!! Used the chilies the next day ( leftovers) for nachos!! There is no recipe that I can print. Please add. Just nice to have a physical copy. Thx again!!
Would love to top that thing with some Rotel mixed into smashed avocado for a guac. I feel like that would be so much better than whatever sauce Carl's Jr uses.
Hey Sam! You are looking for the words omnipresent or ubiquitous. BIC lighters are EVERYWHERE. You're doing fine. I'm lucky to remember my cat's name. Love the show guys! Much love from east TN.
I'm from New Mexico... EVERY burger I eat ... I don't care where it's from.... has an entire 4oz can of HATCH chopped green chilies on it. That's the way it's done... period. Terrifically good for you! Huge vitamin C boost at the very least. Carls Jr. isnt worth the money IMHO.... In NM... you can get green every day of the year... at McDonald's!
Guess we're back to the sandwich then taco then burger thing again. Next Monday will be a pizza and then Wednesday will be a burrito then Friday will be a munchie.
The chili's that Carl's Jr is using in their burger is a Hatch pepper, so probably the Anaheim would be a good alternative, though other varieties are definitely capable of being used, if unavailable or you prefer a different pepper.
thank u finally weather it was you Sam or max who read my comment about doing a carls jr burger and sam max and chance there is a food called pop corn chicken it is made by KFC in Australia you should make it it is really good
Hatch green chile comes from Hatch, here in New Mexico. Very delicious. We put it on everything.
A green chile burger MUST have Hatch chile. No exceptions...
Pueblo chiles are better
@@taylora5224 never tried them, but I've heard they're good.
Very rarely can we get hatch chilies in california
Hatch is THE ONLY way!
4-6 oz can of chopped does nicely!
Have to agree on Hatch chiles. That IS what green chile cheeseburgers are made with.,.
Those two peppers are pretty much interchangeable. i am starving now
I think the Chile they use are Hatch Green Chile since it was the season for them recently (Sept or so). Everything in stores are Hatch in the Fall around here (NJ). Not sure if anybody has mentioned it, but Carl's Santa Fe Sauce has Curry Powder in it! That's what takes it over the edge IMO!
I worked at a Carl's Jr. back in the early 90s while going to high school. The green chilies came in a large can. Not fresh or grilled at the restaurant. I really like the Santa Fe sauce, a little kick, but not ridiculously spicy.
Try Hatch 575 green chili out of a jar. Make foil boat, add pat of butter to foil to grease up, add 1/2 jar of 575! Simply outstanding.
Years ago Carl's Jr sold the Calfornis Roast Beef the featured green chili's. It was really good. My father, God rest his soul, LOVED them. CJ's California Roast Beef sandwiches were ABSOLUTLEY AWESOME!!! I was SOOO sad when they discontinued them.

Hey Sam! I'm sitting in the Little Italy Food Hall. We're from the East Coast and stopped on a cruise. GREAT TACOS and super friendly staff.
"Sam the Cooking Guy" is Sam's eponymous show and cooking products line...
March: Fried Dessert Pizza
Pizza Dough rolled out to slightly smaller than a cast iron
Shallow fry it in cast iron
Add dessert ingredients
(Cinnamon Sugar, peaches, strawberries, Nutella, you get to pick)
Serve like a pizza
Top Three Foods on the Planet: my Mom's peach pie, hot-n-sour soup, and the Green Chile Cheeseburger. Bravo!
Sam/Max, have you ever considered making a homemade version of Kewpie mayo? Could be interesting to see the results.
I want to see Sam's take on a Caprese Burger...I love them and everything Sam makes is just better. 😂
It wouldn't be a Friday without a new Sam video!🍔
Remember the Carl’s California roast beef? The same but with roast beef…of course, Anaheim chiles, and jack cheese.
Finally another burger video !! I honestly forgot the method .
OK Sam. In Red bluff Ca. Is where Shari's Café and pies is right of the 5. They serve stuffed hash browns. Absolutely delicious. Let's see you give that a try.
I'm sure you could add a twist!
Homemade is always better!% Love the way this came together! 😎
I have to say.. the video quality of your content is 2nd to none!
I'd like to see Sam's take on beef stroganoff.
Lettuce Pray 🙌🏼I'm hungry!
Suggesting again. Grilled octopus! Too good!
TIP: Try roasting peppers, tomatoes, onions, etc. in an air fryer. It works great. Just spray it brush then with oil and go. It's never failed me. JUST THE TIP 🤣
Max: That’s the problem; ya gotta have full coverage.
Uncircumcised guys: Hold my beer..
I've always made mine with homegrown Poblanos
I remember the days when “The six dollar burger” was an actual menu item for Carl’s Jr and it was considered super expensive for a fast food burger…
We have the same last name we must be bros

Pepper done in an air fryer works as well. Turn every 4 to 5 minutes
Make the Whataburger Hatch Green Chile burger once the Hatch green chile harvest hits, HEB sell Hatch for like $1/pound during harvest season here in West Texas
Please do more things like weeknight dinners and weekend date night stuff please
Burger looks gangster
Nice job Sam
Cheers from San Diego California
ALL Burger videos are much appreciated and I have to make this at home!
Curried Goat !!! 🇯🇲 style. Not the non-spicy "goat curry". Has to be Curried Goat. Let's Goooooooo
For a long time.Carl's Jr was my favorite of the big national burger joint chains. But over the last 3 years or so, it seems like quality has dipped a little and service has dropped a lot, all while prices have remained steadily higher than competitors.
Please make Rouladen!!! You'll love it and id love to see your take on it! Max and Chance will cream their pants!!😂😂
Looks great but being from south Louisiana, the only thing I would change if possible is to fry the Chile pepper. That's just how we roll👍
In Chile we have "Ají Verde"...that looks like the one on the Carls Jr's burguer... I dont thnik they use this variety of chili.... but you never know...
New Mexico Hatch is the #1 chili to use in almost everything.
Hey Sam how about making grilled octopus (second request) it's great !!!!!
Definitely need to do a comparison with NM Hatch Green chili.
You should try to recreate Chic-Fil-A's Honey Pepper Pimento Sandwich!! 😍
First... Always use Hatch (Anaheim) chilies.
Second... You should always do side by side pictures of the expected burger, the actual burger and the Sam version burger.
They probably used the whole Ortega canned chili!🤣
I like Carl's Jr. However I always delete the lettuce and always add the green chilies to any burger, beef or chicken. I also usually add guacamole and bacon. I really miss the Chili Cheese burger they used to have (red chili, no beans).
Bacon guacamole😊
And their chili cheese fries!!! That was one of my go-to's in high school lol. That and/or the small bacon ranch burgers that were like a buck each.. those were the good times..
@@JDubST My way back in the day Carl's Jr item, which I'm sure was totally unhealthy, but so yummy... The Crisperito. Kind of a fried chimmy burrito 🌯
Carls Jr is patently the grossest burger joint on earth, closely edging out Burger King
This was so cool to see. I live in Tennessee and taste test promo items at Carl Jr Corporate. I taste tested that chile burger and it was not good but your version looks to die for. Thank you! Love your channel

Looking good, Mr STCG...I grow my own peppers and like ideas on how to use them. ❤❤❤❤
Smashed meatloaf burger with mashed potatoes and gravy on it!
You need to look up and make pueblo slopper and give that a go. We have something similar to the hatch chili in it but we are famous for them here. Thanks for setting off my homepod.
I miss the California Roast beef sandwich. It was awesome.
Make crockpot chili next!!!!
Looks like an Anaheim chile (or the Hatch or Pueblo varieties) to me.
Fast food saving cost makes me say it's going to be the Anaheim chili
medium rare makes the best burger. I am so going to recreate this burger for the Family.
Looks good! Thank you for your videos, I've learned so much and I'm excited to cook! Thanks to you my husband is happily fed!
a lactose free beef stroganoff would be awesome
Sam makes Max and Chance eat the Fast Food burger but not the one he made!
I like how he cuts up the cold one and makes them try it, than eats the fresh one right in front of them 😂 that’s my kind of story, it’s no fun tell someone eats a cold burger!
I'm making it! FOR SURE!
When Sam makes a burger, I make a replica of Sam. I have an army of Sam in my drawer, and they are all smooth burger men
Guys, take away your dad's short tongs and replace them with long handled tongs, OK? 🙂
To make it even easier, get put diced green chilies in the sauce. Still will get full coverage.
Nice burger! Idea : can we do something with lasagna or it's a hopeless case? :)
Love a good burger and this looks like a good burger!
I don’t know if you have Culver’s by you Sam, but they have what’s called a curd burger which is a burger with a big fried cheese curd on top of it.
You should make New Mexico style food
Autonomous: A device capable of operating without direct human control.
Made this, and it is delicious!! Used the chilies the next day ( leftovers) for nachos!! There is no recipe that I can print. Please add. Just nice to have a physical copy. Thx again!!
McDonald’s needs to bring back their Mc DLT. Always fresh lettuce etc
Your production quality has taken a big leap recently. Keep it up boys. Music, camera, edits, lighting, booya.
You should make the Loaded Nacho Burger from Wendy’s
Happy Friday
Would love to top that thing with some Rotel mixed into smashed avocado for a guac. I feel like that would be so much better than whatever sauce Carl's Jr uses.
Toast. Mayo, horseradish, mustard, friend whole Ortega canned chili, thinly sliced fried spam, tomato, ground pepper.. mayo mustard,toast.. you're welcome
I actually saw the ad for this burger on this video
This looks....AMAZING!!!
You can also use Air fryer
This time of year; they use Hatch Green Chilies.
Hey Sam! You are looking for the words omnipresent or ubiquitous. BIC lighters are EVERYWHERE. You're doing fine. I'm lucky to remember my cat's name. Love the show guys! Much love from east TN.

Haha my favorite joke is calling things Ubiquitas. I enjoy your vids.
Guess we're back to the sandwich then taco then burger thing again. Next Monday will be a pizza and then Wednesday will be a burrito then Friday will be a munchie.
In what world can they justify that burger to be 11$?
This looks good. Gonna make this.
Why not try it with a Hatch Green Chile? I bet it would taste much better! 😁
Didn’t this used too be called a Santa Fe burger 30 years ago? Probably nobody left in management old enough too remembers😂
Love you guys
Pls make "Epic Chili" .
Could you guys make the Ghost Pepper Ranch Chicken Sandwich from Wendy’s?
The chili's that Carl's Jr is using in their burger is a Hatch pepper, so probably the Anaheim would be a good alternative, though other varieties are definitely capable of being used, if unavailable or you prefer a different pepper.
What kind of doubt they'd be paying extra for the hatch chili. I bet they're using Anaheim chili peppers
Yummy. Add some Red Onion. Weiner Weiner!!!💯
thank u finally weather it was you Sam or max who read my comment about doing a carls jr burger and sam max and chance there is a food called pop corn chicken it is made by KFC in Australia you should make it it is really good
Only problem with the actual vs the Carl's Jr. Picture is that you can't see the peppers in the Pepper jack cheese.
Day 671! Please make chicken cordon bleu!!!
Makes me wanna book a flight to Southern California - San Diego. Goto Not Not Taco and demand I get a Pablano perpcorn cheeseburger from Sam. 🤘
Good one!
