Plain and simple... technology was supposed to bring us closer and make us smarter; we're just getting dumber and pushing loved ones farther and farther away
I feel you are absolutely correct. Don’t give kids all out access to phones and definitely keep them off social media. Strive to teach your children how to make meaningful and long lasting relationships. I see my kids friends that are in elementary school and already have cell phones and Facebook. When they stay over at our house we ask the parents to please keep the cellphones since we don’t allow our children access to things they don’t need to access.
I am 12 years old and I find this video really interesting and I am really satisfied with that quote he says at the end “Your time is limited so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”
I am 13 years old and I was a victim of cell addiction. It wasn't a problem when I looked at my phone and played numerous videos for hours but then later own I noticed some changes in myself. Being distant with my family members, having anxiety problems and a lot of temper in the sense I get angry really easily for small things and I also became poor in studies. I just wanna give a small advice to students my age, phone addiction makes you loose a lot of things and yourself. I recommend you all to take very less time in front of the screen, cause once you get addicted it's hard to come back to reality instead lets take care of ourselves and focus for our future.
I do agree that this is a problem but I do not think it is a very large one yes it is bad for kids to become distant and develop anxiety etc. However there are so many bigger things to focus on what about kids who are being targeted by vaping companies and get addicted to that what about kids who are being violently bullied online not because of cell phone attiction but for just being themselves. As someone who has been diagnosed with major depressive disorder, has an addict for a parent(alcohol) and has tried to end there own life all at only 14 I think I have some say in the matte of wether this is a real problem we need to be focused on.
I think this whole speech is very accurate in showing the harsh reality in how so many people around the world are actually addicted to their cell phones. It’s an issue that lots of kids fail to acknowledge because it’s so common. I personally know multiple people in my life who are addicted to their phones and it’s sad to see how common it is.

We’ve perpetuated a world where we all need devices to carry out life for the most part. I pay bills, gps for work, keep reminders for side business, need calls and texts from family. It is definitely hard to have control rather than the devices usefulness itself.
It is all about balance. When you go to see a movie with your spouse, leave your phone at home. When you visit friends, put your phone away while you visit. You can grab a pic together just before leaving for home. When you go for a walk, enjoy nature, your dogs or children or significant other. Do not worry about social media. Be in the moment. Phone watching while crossing a street or worse yet, driving while using your phone, could be fatal for you or someone else. If you have an unfortunate aggressive encounter with someone, do not use your phone to spread the details of this toxic encounter with people who have nothing to do with the encounter and who do NOT want to know about it. Limit your time on the phone. Leave it at home and see if you can feel happy and comfortable without it. If not, you are addicted and no addictions are good for you. They imprison you! You will end up not sleeping well, getting depressed, feeling unfulfilled, because you are wasting precious time. Use them to uplift, educate or capture beautiful memories. Limit your time spent on them to one or two hours...no more! Do not document every minute of your life. Live instead!
I deleted most of my social media apps off of my phone besides discord and Snapchat, because these two tend to have the most privacy. It really makes you come to reality of how many friends/connections you actually have vs the fake connections in the virtual world. As a child, I used to be so worried that I won’t be like everyone else because everyone has Instagram, Snapchat, and more. But honestly, I would go back in time and thank my mom for not letting me have social media, and honestly to never let me and my brother have it at all. I regret using social media. It’s a waste of energy, and the sad part is people who have mental disorders seek online forums that do absolutely nothing for them but spit the same negative symptoms they are trying to address or fix. It’s ironic as the thing they are trying to use to address their mental illness is actually causing it. It gets to the point where adolescents and especially young teens can’t form a stable sense of self, and base their identity off of what everyone thinks. They turn down long-term dreams for short-term acceptance (fake acceptance), and it’s actually very sad. The world could possibly be a better place if the like button didn’t exist, and the like button was a clever component of social media from day one. One example is many of the covid tests, which, regardless of your views on, many employers required before returning to work. They required the use of the VAULT website or app to submit the test as well as an email for timely results. Yes, there may be many issues surrounding phone usage but the answer unfortunately can't be "just stop then." I honestly wish there was an earnest discussion about things we could do to combat these issues.
Meanwhile, like I said I acknowledge an addiction issue, my mom will not put down her phone for the reason of constantly perusing and posting to FB (which i personally hate and avoid using because I see what it does to her). I'm guessing the "answer" is a lot more nuanced and tailored to individuals as most instances of addiction are... it's just the societal reliance on the addiction source that makes it all that much more difficult.
