Yep. Every time when i go skate, i switch up from dunks to eS and the difference is night & day. eS so far has been best skate shoes what ive ever skated
If they couldn’t afford to pay Asta royalties in full I would say he was an asset sales wise. I think if they negotiated they could have kept him. Aesthetically he fits perfectly on eS
es did fully go under for about two years, but they actually still sold accells in japan during that time I used to order them online Idk if they were deadstock or what.
Kelly had been talking about reissued original Accel OGs. He never said anything hinting at a sale or any changes happening at ES. Kelly is doing what he needs to do to not get cut. It’s surprising they kept the Am on Primitive and the Euro dude on Palace over Asta. New show for TJ coming out. It’s all weird over there it seems.
the old skater run companies that were really successful, became victims of their own success. They were bought by big corporations who don't understand skating, and all they see is money. Then those iconic brands get cheapened, and eventually they become corpses of their former selves. Coming back to skating after 20 years, to find my beloved brands are all gone, really bums me out. Anyone remember when World Industries was literally one of the biggest names in skating? They had it all. Got bought, gutted and killed off. Now they're trying to climb their way back up, which they deserve some credit for.
The only dirty part of all this is they led him on and got him to sign some papers allowing them to pay him less than half of what they owed him and not fufill their own contract. That contract expired and they washed their hands. Sad
the skate industry today vs late 90s / to early 2010s is different. the big shoe companies, cheap manufactured boards, and social media has made it almost impossible to make a living as a skater. even a b tier skater in the 90s was doing okay for themselves.
But i feel like there's a lot more room in the middle... good or bad. Self promotion seems to be of paramount importance these days. If you've built even a small social media following that can get you free shit for sure.
@ dude, people used to get paid. I don’t think you understand. People that were good but not the best used to be able to travel the world and pay their bills. Look at a Chris Robert or Daniel Shimizu back then

100%. Everybody in his comments is all pissed at Soultel like they screwed everybody. The company was literally losing money and piling up debt. It is what it is
That recent Santa Cruz 50th Anniversary video... Has Asta pictured only once with McCoy and Sommer... But NO call out in the entire video. They literally put Sommer's call out over Asta's body. Perhaps other SC pros were also not mentioned or maybe because they didn't skate in the video. Injured or whatever. But Winkowski didn't skate for instance and got a mention. Seemed odd to me.
I was SUPER disappointed in hearing this. It was really funny too because literally just days before he posted this I was on there website just happened to look at the team page and didn’t see him on there and I was shocked. Tom Asta has been one of the main guys at es for them to do him dirty like this really annoyed me to say the least. I’ve bought there shoes for over a decade now. And it’s an absolute shame!!! wtf is going on with sole tech??? Letting Joslin go from Etnies now Asta getting let go from Es wtf????
Sadly skating is a shell game. Uncool kids can come to skating and be free and accepted for their skate powers, and having fun...except it's all run by cool kids. Ricky - you probably need to start an agency to do the nuts and bolts of building distribution / audiences and monetization for skaters who are clueless and don't want to do it. You take 10%. You give your agency people the know-how to do it. Don't be doing the work yourself. You keep working on your channel and showing that it can be done. It's a big opportunity if you're into it.
They don't like youtubers. Unless your on an official youtube channel for redbull like tj or instagram like penny. Apparently they figured he was better off on his own endeavors with the channel.
