My dog Fred was featured in this film, the was the left footed Dobie, he was the sweetest most loving Dog, he had his quirks and I loved every single one of them, The went to the Rainbow brige 4 years ago. ADOPT!! ADOPT!! ADOPT!!! You can make the difference
Honestly, my belief is if a dog can't find a good home, they should be humanely put down rather than ROT in a cage for the rest of their life. I've seen what that does to dogs. It makes them aggressive, and unstable since they only know life in a cage. I stopped volunteering at a no kill shelter because it was too heartbreaking to see animals behavior rapidly deteriorate from living in cages.
summer, i have seen the same behavior exhibited from many dogs as well as other animals. it is a survival instinct and does not mean the animal is violent by nature. Dogs can be trained to break this habit, even older dogs. they say you cant teach an old dog new tricks, from my experience though dogs more well behaved the older they get, kind of how (most) people maure as they get older. keep up the traiing, your dog will come around eventually :)
@summerbrezz74 I also thought it was wrong for her to have that dog put down, many dogs are very protective over their food, the key is not picking them up while they are eating, not putting down a perfectly healthy animal. It was hard to watch.
Such a sad place for a dog to be. I adopted my dog 5 years ago and I love him to pieces I just wish more people would go to shelters and adopt instead of spending over 1,000 for a dog that they bought off a breeder and by the way...it's the breeders who are the number 1 people to blame
This breaks my heart! Most animals, birds, reptiles, cats and dogs etc, will live between 5 to 20 years, some longer. Can you commit 15+ years? If you move, loss your job, get married, have kids, you have committed to this animal first. So please think about this …. animals are NOT disposable because your life changed! This really says something about the character of people who surrender/dispose/abuse. These people are parents, grandparents, friends, coworkers, sons, daughters etc, DO I WANT this person, who is not responsible, who's word means nothing (comitted to the animal and now goes back on their word), be my parent? be my coworker, be my friend when their word means NOTHING.
chuck11166 Don't blame breeders, I praise the breeders who's goal is to keep the breed healthy both mentally and physically fit for their purpose. Irresponsible people alone is at fault. Owners and "breeders" (though I wouldn't call someone who let their dog reproduce randomly a breeder) That couple for e.g. had a Red Heeler. A high energy and highly intelligent/independent breed. And said they didn't realize how much energy and how much work she really needs...
My wife was the manager, my children(3 of them) worked there as well as myself. We are all in this "shockumentary" Nothing you see here is as it seems. I am in no way defending Sue Sternberg as we all lost our jobs because she wanted a staff that would agree with her without opposing her in any way. If anyone is interested in the truth just google "The Truth About Rondout Valley Kennels" and it will give you a look into this shelter.
How can you leave a dog that sleep in bed with you in a kill shelter? Dogs are family! I just hate people. I have 4 dogs and they come before everything. All are from a shelter.
However every story needs to be heard. Some owners love their dogs to death, but are unable to take care of them anymore because of maybe financial reasons, but I do agree that people who buys a dog and not research about the time and energy needed to take care of the dog are irresponsible owners.
tweaking sqeak were not blaming the owner selected a cattle dog that they can't handle and that shelter is a killing pound and owners should look on a website to look
@animallover3667 this is the first day i've ever heard about sue sternburg and ive been sick all day. agreed. and to that fat nasty pig who gave up her animal: you're clearly not starving, but you're willing to sacrifice your dog for more cheetos? i hope his ghost haunts you every time you hit the lights, you disgusting hunk of worthless lard.
having been with animal rescue for over a year ive heard every excuse in the book about whyowners cant keep pets

Cried So Hard. That's Not Fair.
Wake up people. State-money should increase by at least 50%. Well done Cynthia for presenting the argument.

Blame the asshole breeders out there and tell them this is what ther'e really doing and that in my mind they'll always be the ones to blame

this woman has no idea on dog behavior problem solving. I saw her put down a dog that was normal. she deemed dog aggressive when in fact dog was fine.
Made me cry
This breaks my heart!

I want that pitbull that the lady surrendered! :'(

you get a cattle dog and you do not expect high energy
Exactly.

It's so unfair these dogs never wanted this

@conchalibre good point
Anyone know of a site that contains the entire film?
All that time she spends killing dogs could be spent taking them for walks instead
