Super issues from a baby boomer who spent 20 years working in Australia & 15 in UK (10 in my 20s & 5 in my 50s). My UK public sector occupational pension is index linked but the Australian Tax Office count it as "overseas income" not superannuation. So it is taxed more than super. If it was a private pension I could have transferred it to an Australian Super Fund with less tax. But UK public sector pensions are generally not transferable as the fund might be "virtual" and paid out of tax revenue. I had sufficient UK NI to get a small UK Old Age Pension or OAP but Australia is one of the countries unlike US or EU where this is not index linked by UK Government. But overall I feel a guilty baby boomer to have an index linked occupational pension - Australia abolished these for public servants in the 1980s as unaffordable. Also Brits need to know Australian OAPs are means tested - 30% do not get one ,hence self funded retirees. By the way I had to give my Australian Tax File number to my Lloyds Bank Account in UK where my UK pensions are paid - ATO and HMRC seem to co-operate!

I was highly offended by the assumption that because the Tinder date was Australian, that it might not go well, and the surprise that he was in fact “really nice” For goodness sake, such small minded ignorance!
