Air Combat (or Ace Combat 1) was my very first game that owned for the ps1 that I played when I was a kid. I remember loving the music and visuals of that game, and the thrill of beating that final massive ship boss at the end. Ace Combat 2 takes everything from the 1st entry and steps it's up 5 notches. Every aspect from the previous game was made better and to this day still holds up. Even now, I still consider Ace Combat 2 to have the best top to bottom soundtrack in the series; as well as great replayability.

Psygnosis DD You've never seen both games in full HD, have you? Ace Combat 3's textures are about 3 times lower resolution than Jet Moto 3's and the 3D models have absolutely no detail in them. The only thing AC3 does better than JM3 is the lens flare and bloom when you look at the sun. Otherwise, the 3D modelling, the textures and the shaders are better on JM3.
It's funny that you're saying that WipeOut's level design is better than JM3's, yet there's no level design at all in Wipeout... The track is a flat piece of floating concrete turning left and right, there's no level design there. And CTR's graphics are indeed good, but not quite as good as JM3's.
Just beat this today (7-28-20) about 10 minutes ago . A good, fun, and solid game. The music is really captivating and relaxing. A worthwhile experience.
I just started Playing Ace Combat 7 and despite the grafics I think this (AC2) is still the better game. Amazing soundtrack and the missions were so diverse

The PS1 had some amazing graphics when a game has enough effort put into it. The intro looked so realistic for its time! Shadows to reflections to sun glare. The PS1 was capable of some crazy stuff! I want one so bad! And this game!
This remains my favourite Ace Combat, perhaps tied with AC5. The Assault Horizon was a big disappointment (i.e. it sucked balls) so I can only hope Namco's next offering is a pleasant surprise.
I got the game today. Very invigorating. I'm a little discouraged that the storyline did not follow that of AC 2-0, on the fictional, alternate Earth. However, the DFM (DogFight Mode) is a very cool addition to the game. I hope they can implement this in a game that follows the story of Skies of Liberation.

as a kid, when I saw this intro I was mesmerized. Now its kinda funny watching it again. We have a flight of Su-33 and an F-22 Raptor launched from a carrier, fighting against a squadron of Mig-21. The F-22 got chased by a MiG-21 until the Su-33 saves him lol

I loved the XFA-27. All stats were maxed out except for stability at 50%. Excellent jet and dominated any mission.
