    Perfectly done. I will advice that if the Nursing home is the option on ground instead of waiting for NHS (which is becoming a little difficult because of Covid 19) come in with that first because we don't really know how long this oversea employment will last== just my opinion though. Interesting to hear different views about nursing in different countries.
    1. In Australia, the pay rate is not constant. The pay rate for Nurses in nursing homes get reviewed and increased yearly after your performance review.
    2. Nurses are paid penalty rates when they work different shifts and weekends. This is across the board, community nurses, hospital nurses, nursing home nurses e.t.c
    3. With the pandemic all nurses got discount regardless of where they work. You only need to show your ID card
    4. Sick leave pay is the same pay as when you are on shift. You don't lose money
    5. Break times is your time off. You can leave the facility if you like except on night shift. The facility will pay for your break on night shift
    6. I feel like nursing home nurses are better skilled in some clinical areas e.g. wound care, palliative care and syringe driver, care planning, behaviour management

    • @ScholasticaUgboka
      @ScholasticaUgboka  3 роки тому

      Wow.. this is really different from what we are used to in the UK.
      What is penalty rate?

    • @OJoy1987
      @OJoy1987 3 роки тому +5

      @@ScholasticaUgboka hi scholastica. I will try and explain penalty rates as well as I can.
      It is a mandated rate of pay that is higher than the usual minimum wage. For example, a nurse who works a morning shift is on 38 dollars per hour. The nurse working in the afternoon would earn more than that which might be 40 dollars. Night RN will earn same as afternoon nurse or in some places will earn more. Then weekend and public holiday is the best. For weekends your penalty rate on Saturday could be 1.50%($38 plus half of 38 which is 19. Total is $57 per hour. Sunday is 1.75%. Public holidays is usually 1.50% except Christmas. Christmas is double time which would be $76 per hour. This example is for permanent full time and part time workers. Casual workers pay could be $45/hr because they don't accrue leave hours (annual leave and sick leave, long service leave). Then if you work agency, agency pays more. The same nurse that earns $38 dollars per hour will earn $51 per hour or more if they work with agency...and some agencies pay double time for all holidays. I hope I have explained better. All nurses get the penalty rates in Australia regardless of where they work.
      Speaking of agency I know someone who earns $65/hr. Good Friday to Easter Sunday she was paid $130 per hour. Same as all other public holidays. That's the penalty rate. When you work some shifts, you earn more.

After nursing school I got a job, worked in various states but mostly lived the longest in Western Australia. I now live in Melbourne. I visit Nigeria every year with exception to last year due to the Covid. There are part time jobs, full time and casual jobs here. Normal work hours is 7.5 hours per day. People say Australia is far from Nigeria so is America and Canada. States like Tennessee in America could take a minumum of 19 hours to get to from Nigeria. Standard of living is high but so is the pay.

    In the nursing home now this days pay changes are reviewed. I started working in a nursing home on a low salary but today am smiling. Talking about the skills, we got training on skills that we don't even used them on a regular basis. Please alway point out correct exactly what you research for. Some of your documentaries are not true.

    • @ScholasticaUgboka
      @ScholasticaUgboka  2 роки тому

      Thank you, the salaries are being reviewed now thanks to RCN and the fight for nurses to earn better wages but even though there are increments its not as frequent as those that work with the NHS. About the skills, it's TRUE that you have to go for trainings once in a while but majority of the time it is because you have to do your NMC revalidation and you need those certificates or you have a new resident in your facility that requires those providing care to familiarize themselves with the equipments and even after learning those skills, you dont put them into use unless the need arises which is rare compared to those that work in the hospital where they are exposed to different patients, gadgets/equipments and scenarios.
      I hope you get where I am coming from now?

      You need to write CBT and OSCE irrespective of where you want to work because it’s part of the NMC UK registration process. You also need to write academic Ielts and score at least 7 in reading, speaking, listening and 6.5 in writing. You don’t need to write ukVi Ielts.
      If you have worked in a geriatric ward at any point in your career then it counts as experience. It’s not really compulsory to have experience but it’s preferable

      It’s possible but how do you plan to make it work? You need a full time job for your visa sponsorship and instead of getting another part time job it would be better to register with an agency for flexible shifts

    Yes NHS has issues with African nurses. When incident occurs the NHS doesn't waste time to dismiss you without proper investigation or consider your length of service as well as report you to NMC immediately for your pin to be stripped off. It is unacceptable

    Can one do some hours with the NHS as part time while working full time in a care home?

    • @ScholasticaUgboka
      @ScholasticaUgboka  4 роки тому +1

      You can if you have previous experience working in the NHS. If you come in with a nursing home and you have never worked in the NHS it might be difficult to get an agency that will post you to the hospital

  • @bloosomojo6237
    @bloosomojo6237 2 роки тому

    You're not absolutely correct, salary is reviewed yearly at my work, on breaks you can do whatever you like, breaks are paid at my work. Most people that work in the NHS still end up doing agency which is not the case in nursing home, pension is now compulsory in nursing homes, I can go on and on. Do your research very well.

    • @ScholasticaUgboka
      @ScholasticaUgboka  2 роки тому +1

      I guess it differs with each company. You are lucky that your employer reviews your salary yearly and you have paid breaks and you can decide to go out on your breaks. However, this doesn't make the information in the video not correct. Most companies/nursing homes operate just the way it is being portrayed in the video. I work in a nursing home and I have been doing agency for over 2 years now. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is just because there are few exceptions doesn't mean the information is not correct. Majority of nursing homes don't pay for breaks and you can't leave the premises on your break

      Home care nurses go to the clients homes to render care, there are care assistants that do the same too but most of them work in a care setting such as hospital or nursing homes.
