The fix is in… no really, this is the fix for delayed PTT Rocky Talkie issues.

- Rocky Talkie reached out to me before I could reach out to them and suggested I check a couple of things on my radios. Some I had already checked, but when I had not thought to turn off, was weather watch. By turning off, Weather, watch the push to talk is now reasonable and not delayed and inconsistent.
Props to Rocky Talkie for reaching out, and I hope you enjoy the update and the fix.

I am impressed with how quickly they addressed this!
Me too! They’re a good company, maybe that’s why expected so much from them. I would have totally different expectations from another company that shall not be named.
This is the result of defective firmware. Pressing the ptt should immediately override the weather watch feature. This is a workaround, not a fix.
Do we know if they have updated their firmware or if this was even correctable? Would be nice to know if they fixed this before I buy. I planned to use these during hurricane season and would want that feature on without an inconsistent delay.
Thanks for updating. Im going to order some now.
I really appreciate the follow up. I am ready to order a pair and your earlier video gave me pause. I would only be concerned about weather watch under very limited conditions - my phone/watch already alert me. Ordering tomorrow.
Good to know for when I order mine.
Awesome! Received mine the other day and good to know👍🏻
Not really a fix if you have to disable a feature to get the radio to function consistently. Maybe nit picking, but for the price point, I would expect a radio to work with all the features. Don't like the idea of paying for features that don't seem to work properly. Have not encountered this delay on other radios. At the very least I would hope the company can add a disclaimer to their documentation that WX will cause inconsistent behavior. All that said, looks like a decent radio with good battery and is water-resistant.
What about monitoring channel B while using channel A? Is there a delay with that setup?
Well, pretty much normal behavior to wait half a second on radios to talk. We were taught that in both WFF and S&R.
@@AnonymousOtters I clearly understand your point, and it’s very valid. However, that is not the case here, the delay was sometimes as long as 7 seconds with random intervals. The answer is that it was scanning weather alerts which caused the delays. When weather alerts were turned off, there was no delay.
I don't know why I have become invested in this as I don't have one, but good that it's fixed. I guess am so used to talking on repeaters that even when I'm simplex, I'm conditioned to wait a second after keying up to speak that I probably wouldn't have noticed. But your average user, yeah, I can see that being an issue.
I totally agree with you, it makes perfect sense that as an experienced radio user… Especially a Ham accustomed to repeaters would be OK with a delay. I think what really bothered me was that it was a random duration delay. But, now I know how to turn it off and I’m happy!
Thanks for the video and explanation. Real good. I saw they were GMS radios. I have the FRS Rocky Talky. After using it and all I would still not hesitate to get another. However my next will be a Rocky Talky gms. Thanks again.
You bet. And remember that you can use the FRS and GMRS so long as you set the 5watt radio to “narrow” band. The on-line instruction manual shows how to do this.

Good to know. This may be an issue with other radios as well. Usually, I don't need weather watch.
Thats like having to turn off your A/C in your car to make the headlights work
I have an Icom IC-7100 and it has a similar issue. With the WX alert enabled, audio cuts out for a moment every 5 seconds. I turned that off on day one.
That’s really helpful, thanks for the info.
Thanks!! I'm looking at a pair of the 5watts. Family of four. Probably puling the trigger in a day or so. Looked at Motorola's, especially T802's and T803's. But I am very sold on these 5watt Rockie Talkies. I am also very interested in a Sat Phone. Garmin Rino 755t. Do you have any thoughts re: Sat phones?
Great radios, better than any others I’ve tested. Feel free to use this link to buy yours.

I carry an Inmarsat phone on trips, but the Irridium network is technically superior if you are planning on going closer to the north or South Pole. I chose Inmarsat because it was less expensive each month and d a smaller phone. Both are great though. There is a lot to talk about with sat phones, so I’ll try to make a video.
This is 100% an issue that can be corrected in firmware.
Did they say anything about this being a potential update?
I have a real radio that work's on repeter's when you get your licensee set your radio
up on a repeater if it can an talk to chicago as a test then come back and show it off
right all you have is a family service radio with a one mile leash and collar with
mom at mission control calling the shots
Please make a video testing the range 👍
Will do, but remember that range is quite subjective. Terrain and obstacles have a lot to do with range. I’ll try to add some real world testing though.
Hey there Bubba, clean off that work bench, you look like you do actual work there.
That reminds me. My garage has a bunch of stuff floating at waist level. I think there is a work bench under there. Huh.
Ha ha!
