Funny story about me and the Great Discovery. So here goes: I used to have a blockbuster by a Jack in the Box less than 10 minutes away from home. Me, my mom, and my brother were their and I think it was right before blockbuster started liquidation. I visibly remember grabbing 2 films, the first How To Train Your Dragon and Thomas and the Great Discovery. The kicker, I could only take one home. While I’m happy I choose HTTYD, save a version of the film made with Hornby on UA-cam, I’m pretty sure I haven’t seen Great Discovery in almost 11 years. A small part of me still misses Great Discovery. The former blockbuster is now a bank. Maybe one day for posterity, I’ll track down a copy of Great Discovery. It’d make my 7 year old self happy.
I’m so glad I found this channel. You have a similar delivery to I Hate Everything but you’re also a huge Thomas fanboy. It’s amazing how many passionate Thomas fans there are on UA-cam. Cheers!
I don’t know if it’s for nostalgia purposes as great discovery was the first Thomas film I watched because it came out when I was 2 but that’s my favorite Thomas film great discovery I used to watch it everyday as a wee lad
9:15 That’s actually a quite biased point. Percy had nothing against Belle and Flynn, it was the fact that Thomas was ignoring him. Remember when Thomas first met Stanley? Percy did not at all treat Belle and Flynn like how Thomas treated Stanley. The biggest supporter of this point is when Percy sees Flynn in his berth at Tidmouth Sheds. He looks as if he’s on the verge of crying, but Thomas doesn’t give a sh*t, all he says is “Where have you been, Percy?” To sum it up, Thomas was more in the wrong than Percy was.
I really liked the great discovery, king of the railway, the adventure begins, sodors legend of the lost treasure and hero of the rails. My favorite character in sodors legend of the lost treasure is Ryan
There’s actually something that bugs me about the CGI movies. It’s that I wish there was a more gap of time between them and the season. You know like Magic Railroad came and then came 6 7 8 came and then Calling All Engine, uh something like that.
Great video, well done! One of my favourite movies is "The Great discovery" I love the movie and I don't know why people don't talk about it that much. Great Waterton is the best, I wish that it came back. The adventure scenes, like Thomas in the mine, are really fun, just like the songs! Stanley doesn't have much character like you said but his design is cool. But the narration is...you know 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃 But unlike many fans I don't really like "Hero of the rails"

I actually wish they did more with Stanley. Judging by his role in The Great Discovery; it looked like they had big plans for the character but they just ended up tossing him to the side. It could have been a new genuine rival for Thomas in the same way Spencer was for Gordon. It's too bad he wasn't given much of a character in his only big appearance. I would have made it so that it would take more than just that special to make Thomas truly respect Stanley, and I would write Stanley to act more like a rival. Or at least; a friendly rival. I'd love to see some episodes where they both try to one-up each other. Putting the number one tank engine up against someone who is better and more modern than he is sounds like an interesting concept, and I'm sure a competence writer would be able to write a bunch of interesting episodes based off of that concept.
I couldn’t agree more with this list. Although Journey Beyond Sodor is my favourite, lost treasure is still one of my favourite films of all time. Great job on the video👍
Honestly, I don't know to feel about Thomas and the Magic Railroad. I kind of like it but it does have a lot of issues. Back then if you asked me how I would’ve ranked it, It would’ve been in the top 5 or at the bottom. But it lands somewhere in the middle for me because of all the Thomas stuff and the fact that this was made by people who really cared about Thomas, unlike Big World Big Adventures, Misty Island Rescue, or Day of the Diesels. Also, I don't think this film killed Thomas. What I mean by this is TATMR changed the show forever, that is a fact, but the show was still alive after this and it still was Thomas. What really killed Thomas was Mattel's lack of internal communication and failure to market the brand properly. Combined with Big World Big Adventures that pretty much sealed Thomas' fate. Basically, to put it in Titanic terms, Britt Allcroft may have been the one who built the Thomas Ship, but it was Mattel who caused the ship to hit the iceberg. And BWBA was the ship splitting in half. Lastly, while I may not agree with her direction for TATMR, I still forgive Britt Allcroft because she cared about Thomas as much as Wibert Awadry and the fans did, and still do to this day. And that's something I can't imagine anyone saying about the CEOs of Mattel.

Hearing your thoughts on TAB, I am really interested to hear why you think season 1 is better. If there are many reasons for that, I would love to see you make a video comparing The Adventure Begins with Season 1.
Honestly, I think what makes S1 better is that it doesn’t have to deal with being one long continuous story. That way each episode can properly build up to an event. Edward and Gordon’s retelling was alright but it had weak build up, The Sad Story of Henry’s retelling is largely cut out and does a bad job of representing Henry imo, and Thomas and Gordon’s retelling feels more mean spirited since later in the movie we see consequences for Edward that were not in S1 so the film could’ve given consequences to Gordon. I think Thomas’s Train retelling is better and the breakdown episode’s retelling was on par with S1 imo
I genuinely love TOB, it’s a great movie but you can’t convince me that Percy and Gator definitely had some chemistry going on. Also SLOLT is just plain gorgeous, the only problem I have with it is the “Thomas gets mad/jealous at new engine” trope
Good video. Just some thoughts I've had is with the Sharon Miller movies angleis was back to his classic series style of narration. A quick question is what other Thomas stuff will you be ranking eg narration or seasons dubs? anyway good work

I liked TATMR, Misty Island Rescue, Day of The Diesels, Calling All Engines, and The Great Discovery for some reason, maybe because that movies was one of my sweet memories. But it would have been more times better if Splatter, Dodge, and Dennis could have been of Day of The Diesels..
Heres how i would rewrite day of the diesels: A: belle and flynn are really overconfident and proud. This gives percy a reason to be angry with thomas because hes spending all his time with them. B. Make percy end up in the dieselworks in a much more threatening way. Like den and dart pushing him in while hes pulling the mail at night. The diesels then force percy to create a huge accident at the steamworks. (The moral in this plot will be to tell someone if somethings wrong, as percy will be too scared to.) After percy causes an accident, the other engines get very angry, but then someone sees huge clouds of grey smoke coming from the diesels. C. The confrontation has something of a standoff feel. Then the tension is broken by diesel 10 using his claw to rip the funnel of someone of tobys roof off. This causes the engines to huff away asap. D. A fire breaks out after engineers attempt to start paxton but fail, igniting some sparks that set the dieselworks alight. The diesels eventually see this, and blame diesel 10, because they could have seen it sooner if it werent for his stupid plan. E. Flynn and belle are called out, and they proclaim their importantness along the way, and now thomas sees why percy didnt like them. However, they fail to put the fire out. Just as the building is going to collapse, diesel 10 reappears, gets paxton down and gets him out just in time, in a redeeming act. F. In a sombre scene, the diesels look at what has happened, and almost give up. Then however, when everything looks hopeless, a barrage of metal and bolts and everything else come to repair the dieselworks. The dieselworks is saved and Finally, the end. Your only gonna read this part
This is the hottest take I’ll ever give: SLOTLT is alright, but it has wasted potential. Thomas is alright, but having him shift to blame to others feels really odd given just how in the past Thomas owns up or is aware of what he did. Thomas’ pairing with Sailor John was alright, but it felt too short and undeveloped. I didn’t really believe Thomas would be conflicted and it felt like so much more could’ve been done with them. The miniature engines and Ryan are alright, but I was kinda disappointed at the “Thomas gets jealous” cliche being used again and not as well as previous material, and Marion’s subplot was okay. Overall, it’s pretty good but it needed a lot more time to develop character relationships and it’s plot. I think the only films that work with its timing and feel more narratively satisfying are The Adventure Begins and Tale of the Brave
I personally felt that Tale of the Brave was better than SLOTLT because of how Thomas was more mature in it compared to the aforementioned film. SLOTLT would have fully won me over if the tension and falling out between him and The Fat Controller was brought on by an argument about Thomas overworking himself on his branch line and being too dedicated for his own good, briefly replacing him with Ryan to show him that he can’t take all the credit, with this pissing Thomas off and making him work at the quarry. Also building on Percy’s development from Tale of the Brave would have been nice, dealing with some repressed trauma from series 5 during the dynamite explosion and maybe the chase.
That part made me laughed when the camera zoomed in at Nia’s face when you said pretty crappy one too 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 5:55 and the camera zoomed in at Thomas’s face when you said but not anymore 12:21

5:23 Something that I’ve not seen anyone talk about it the fact that they chose Whiff because of his glasses. They thought, “Well Whiff has glasses, so he must be nerdy and therefore knowledgeable!” Like The Unlucky Tug said, Edward would’ve been a perfect character to replace Whiff in Misty Island Rescue. Would’ve given him a unique role at least

I grew up with Magic Railroad since i was little. Also, i think Diesel 10 was much better as a good guy in Calling All Engines than he was in Day Of The Diesels, which is why Calling All Engines is my favorite movie from the bad movies group
To be honest, it's hard to rank all the movies. But, I would put Tale Of The Brave at the bottom of my ranking, and put The Great Discovery at the top of my ranking. I love Thomas and the Magic Railroad because it was one of my childhood movies, it was released in the U. S. the day before I was born, and I'll always enjoy it throughout my life. I know it's not the best one, but I still like it. I don't dislike Calling All Engines, but it's not my favorite Thomas movie. It's not a masterpiece, but it's not awful either. Remember, it's my opinion.

#4 The Adventure Begins
#3 Sodor's Legend Of The Lost Treasure
#2 Blue Mountain Mystery
#1 Tale Of The Brave
I like TATMR as well, despite that it ‘killed’ Thomas, I love the Sodor sets.
I can’t make up my mind what The Best Movie Is Bc To Me Sodor Legend Of The Treasure And The Adventure Begins Are PERFECT
I grew up watching Magic Railroad on DVD
That was amazing!
Thank you very much mate! This is definitely one of my favourite videos I’ve made (:
Good video. Just some thoughts I've had is with the Sharon Miller movies angleis was back to his classic series style of narration. A quick question is what other Thomas stuff will you be ranking eg narration or seasons dubs? anyway good work

I'm sorry, Thomas and the Magic Railroad and Misty Island Rescue was my childhood, sorry I'm ranking it way higher
1:55
That was when he knew, he was laughing
(Edit) 3:15
This was from what I recall the first time Thomas did the “bouncing” on the screen
I’m serious that was so funny I’m dying
I liked TATMR, Misty Island Rescue, Day of The Diesels, Calling All Engines, and The Great Discovery for some reason, maybe because that movies was one of my sweet memories. But it would have been more times better if Splatter, Dodge, and Dennis could have been of Day of The Diesels..
Heres how i would rewrite day of the diesels:
A: belle and flynn are really overconfident and proud.
Just like you when I first watched The Adventure Begins, I thought it was pretty good. However I did prefer season 1
Great work Sean, a very long video but it was worth the watch although i disagree with some of your placements i respect them none the less
Excellent work and keep up the amazing work.
Good video but for The Adventure Begins you accidentally put 8 instead of 5
The adventure begins is definitely better than Hero of the rails
2:24 Magic railroad is my childhood to
That part made me laughed when the camera zoomed in at Nia’s face when you said pretty crappy one too 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 5:55 and the camera zoomed in at Thomas’s face when you said but not anymore 12:21
Good video. I like the Despicable Me 3 sentence for the Great Race.

Well, the diesel antagonists have to resume their bad behavior in the show, even after Day of the Diesels. Part of continuing the rivalry which is part of the show and all.

1. Thomas & the Magic Railroad
I find it ironic that you say the voice cast is trash for TATMR but say Eddie Glen is one of the best Thomas voices
yeah eddie glen is actually an excellent voice for thomas, long with gordons voice actor. the voices I do have a grudge with, are James' and Percy's as they both sound like girls
Thomas and the magic railroad is my favorite childhood memory movie of whole time
For the most part, I agree with you! Lovely video!
This is still amazing though
I grew up with misty island rescue and say of the diesels why did I like these 😢
5:23 Something that I’ve not seen anyone talk about it the fact that they chose Whiff because of his glasses. They thought, “Well Whiff has glasses, so he must be nerdy and therefore knowledgeable!” Like The Unlucky Tug said, Edward would’ve been a perfect character to replace Whiff in Misty Island Rescue. Would’ve given him a unique role at least
6:17 , I saw it in cinemas and Legend of the lost treasure in 2015, the day it came out. (I find sodor's legend of the treasure the best movie of thomas)
So excited!
Bro the draft Version of a Special Day is my 2nd favorite Thomas song Streamlining is my # 1 and u can’t say no to that, it’s too catchy
Personally, I thought BWBA killed Thomas, because I loved 6-12, and I thought 13-BWBA was alright at best.
I love BWBA
I just watched Calling All Engines and I thought it was okay. I'd put it higher on a list simply because I prefer the models over cgi.
1:18 "These pieces of dog sh*t." XD
2:07 "Shut up! Just shut up, you idiot." XD
3:14 Well, I don't think it's bad.
6:00 My eyes!
Big World Big Adventures Movie has a dark message behind it: it's ok to go somewhere without telling anyone. Anyone else think so?
And also Ace is a stranger to thomas, and thomas toodles off with him, implying to children it ok to go off with strangers
bwba has a dark message behind it?
Wtf
Rip Peter Fonda
What app did you use for Thomas’ moving eyes in the intro?

The worst crap of all Thomas's story: Big World, Big Adventures.
The best of the best: Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure.
10:00 some Diesels are nice
@@CyberspaceDiscoveryGuy also Paxton
My favorite with no Doubt has to be The Great Discovery, tho it's probably Nostalgia clouding it a bit.
