Here's an idea. Go for ISO 9001 certification for your processes. It's not easy but helps ensure you have everything documented and adhered to and can easily catch mistakes if they happen.
Don't quote me on this, but I believe they're going for that
tbh ISO9001 doesn't mean much, it pretty much means you do what you tell you do. If you put on paper you don't document any processes, that is fine by ISO9001 specs. It does however serve company transparency which is a good thing.
ISO 9001 is great on paper but as ramonj360 said, it basically means you do what you say you do. I have worked in ISO 9001 certified companies that were a complete joke, so it all kinda depends how you implement it.
ISO will certify anything. plus I would think you would need to have an auditor who know shit about tech and processes to have any effect on LTT.
@@skiie
No, they won't certify anything lol.
Having worked at some very large companies I would try to steer away from having employees hash out issues with eachother unless its a minor complaint. Making sure that they always have the option of having HR at least mediate is very important.
@@TheUnknownVideographer bro they have a dedicated hr department
Edit: time 10:42
Didn't that ginger chick get run out of the company by the HR department? HR works for Linus, Linus has always been a greedy a-hole. Don't get me wrong, Linus is entertaining. But he is the type of guy that would leave you for dead if saving your life meant he got blood on his clothes.
Hes only doing this video because he has to. Because the scandals are threatening his profits. His entire youtube career has been centered on maximizing profits.
@@nerdstrangler4804 If you need HR to keep you in check as an adult, either your parents failed you, or you failed them. Comparing HR to things like law enforcement? Please lol. If you punch a guy at work he's calling the cops not HR...that's a crime lmao. HR is there to communicate on your behalf after communication channels between 2 people have been exhausted. They don't make you communicate. If you go to HR with a complaint the first thing they're gonna ask you is, what did you do to try to resolve this. If you say you've done nothing they close the door in your face. They're not your mommy and daddy and they don't hold your hand. The other guy is right. I've never known HR to be like what you describe, but I've only ever worked for regional, transnational, and international organizations. They don't have the time for the bullshit.
HR represents the company, and they follow orders of the company. They are not your friend, and they are certainly not on your side. Having them mediate should always be a very last resort.

I've been away and catching up with everything. Just wanted to say it's great to see you back and hear about all the changes and improvements you've all worked on. Much respect for shutting down production to review and take action, looking forward to what's next!
Quality and accuracy absolutely has to be PRIORITY NUMBER 1 for a channel like this otherwise you erode (and possibly lose) any credibility that the very definition of a review site is founded on. LMG is big enough now and certainly produces enough revenue that they can spend a little extra time and money to make their best effort to eliminate mistakes, misleading content and maximize accuracy. If this effort is genuinely being embraced by the group then I look forward to the improved results. Review sites like this are very important for balancing commerce and for consumers and manufacturers both. Best wishes for LMG.
Welcome back, the sub feed has felt empty 😄Looking forward to see what all the improvements bring! 🎉
Sub feed will look empty a lot more if all goes well
Nerdforge defiantly should collap again! I would also suggest you collab with OTK (Starforge systems) :P
Great to see the community has LTT's back!
He also "committed" to accuracy in previous fake apology video. He had multiple chances to admit mistake and do something about it. He didn't. This latest "we're committed to accuracy" is just PR.
Something I’d like to see moving forward is a distinction between labs-approved content and all the other. Maybe something in the title or thumbnail, but a quick way for people to tell whether this has been thoroughly reviewed, or is more focused on entertainment
maybe even a new channel
Just straight up ltt labs
Could just be the first line of the description or something
@@another_day4783I saw a UA-camr who had a separate channel where he would post videos that were more first impressions or off the cuff videos and I kind of thought short circuit was supposed to be that for LTT but some of their videos don't quite seem like that.
I say that you short circuit for unboxings and other videos where they just receive a product and then do a full review of it later on the main LTT channel with the labs and everything.
Nintendo seal of quality kinda thing.
Suggestion: as you continuously (hopefully) improve your processes, please keep in mind that "you cannot inspect quality into a product". As a former Quality Assurance Engineer, I would say that your new processes will help to catch errors, and that is great. However, you should also focus on preventing them as much as possible to begin with.
Another suggestion would be to start tracking errors and their severity. Thresholds can be set on this data that can proactively indicate the health of your processes and hopefully prevent LMG from "going this far off the rails" again.
I would also highly recommend starting a "Lean" culture. The concept of lean manufacturing has been around for a while. You could adapt a lot of those cultural concepts to workplace processes. I particularly like the "2 Second Lean" book. I think you can read it for free. If the LMG teams can focus on process improvement, not "inspections", more time can be spent providing better content without sacrificing quality. Inspections, or content reviews in LMG's case, will probably always be necessary, but LMG should create a culture that can continuously eliminate sources of error.
I appreciate the efforts LMG is making to address the issues brought up by the community. I want LMG, and other Tech media organizations, to succeed. I think that Louis Rossman said the following a few time, "the internet does not really have a good or standard way of forgiving an entity after they take action to improve." I want to forgive and trust LMG or any other entity that finds itself similarly lost (hopefully temporarily).
These are some great suggestions, and if you don't mind, are ones I may well use myself. My company doesn't have much in the way of testing and QA, and these suggestions are appreciated!
@@haxie4516 Haha! Go for it. I did not come up with these concepts. Manufacturing industries have been using them for quite some time.
I have deployed lean a few times now in my career. I can say that it is always best when a culture of lean is pushed heavily, consistently, and continuously.
I would also recommend you stay away from big lean projects. They are quite tempting because you get a big ROI, but once you finish it, your team, specifically at smaller organizations, will need to get back to their original job in order to stay profitable.
I have found that the best way to get that lean culture is to really push staff to work the small things in a "Just Do It" fashion. The employee should be encourages to tackle small things that annoy them the most in a given work week. This has several benefits; it reduces annoyance for those employees thus improving their day to day environment, gives the employee a sense of control and enablement which will make them more likely to organically suggest and make future improvements, and all of this will create more time for employees to work activities that add value which will equate to more profit for the company.
@@GCTWorks
Thanks!
They cannot adopt ISO 9000. It is not a traditional manufacturing company nor a medical facility. The more they try to reduce source of error, the less they will becaom creative. Eventually, you will see a video with dry-facts and narrations. I don't want 'that' LTT.
@@PARK60264 never suggested that they should adopt iso9000. Only trying to give suggestions on how to continuously improve.
They can take a look at the classical Lean Manufacturing paradigms and adopt some techniques to portions of their business. If done properly for their business, they should free up time for them to put towards creative content. brainstorming.
In fact, some of the things the video indicated they are already working on, like the automations for generating the charts in the videos, which have been shown to be a source of error, would improve quality and remove the need for an individual to spend an inordinate amount of time reviewing that data again. This would free up that resource to focus on other activities like coming up with creative video ideas. This is a great example of focusing on error prevention, not detection.
In general, I respectfully disagree that companies that operate to ISO9000, AS9100, and the like means that their creativity is inhibited. I work for a company now that has segments certified to both standards, and we are constantly creating many innovative products and solutions.
Should LTT adopt Lean methodology to the degree and in the way car manufacturers have? Of course not! They can take the ideas that they believe can adapt to their business.
thank you linus tech tips! best of luck to an improved future with ltt!
Make a week of introspection a yearly thing. Maybe not stop all production work, but plan it so there's plenty of space for some serious chats and reviews of procedures and how everyone is doing.
In all honesty, sometimes, you've got to fuck it up badly to see where it's gone wrong.
Glad to see you post again
This!
Or even every 6 months. Since they are growing so fast.
From my point of view, if the company takes more time to produce videos, there won't be a need to do a week of introspection because you would autocorrect bad things by taking several micro introspections with the times that you have freed with non-scheduled upload. And it's like that for most companies, well tech related anyway because that's where my experience is at
Every video should have a half-hour post-mortem for the responsible team to learn from mistakes made. Or perhaps an hour a week or something. In tech we do more than that, generally biweekly.
@@microteam4 it’s still a very valuable and healthy exercise for a team or organisation to take an annual or so break to the normal schedule and spend that time just discussing issues and concerns for leadership to look at. It creates a good feedback loop between leadership and staff and creates an environment where staff feel part of the decision making in the company and creates a more collaborative and happy culture overall. And it doesn’t really hurt production, as they could load up some fun/simpler videos to drop the week they’re out.
You should take a week off for this every year. Might be healthy for a company like this, focused on having to pump out content.
With proper planning they could pre schedule content for the "reflection week" and we would probably not even notice. It's a really good idea for overall continuous improvement.
It could be a yearly tradition for LTT.
The LTT shame week
Or they could just have a healthy work schedule
That's not really going to help. In a crisis like this, yes; or rather maybe. But in the long run you are better off doing reflections in small increments e.g. like you do in SCRUM
Best of luck to you and your team Linus, Ive drifted away from tech things in the last few years but I wish you and everyone there the best of luck in these trying times
did you miss the beginning of the video. hint: pyramid
This is awesome, great job with the changes 😎👍👍👍
One thing I think a lot of people have forgotten is that at its core, LMG isn't a malicious organization. Missteps on business management don't necessarily mean that the whole company is rotten, and further, LMG has supplied so much helpful content over the years. It only seems reasonable to allow a company that's grown at such a rapid rate to readjust itself at some point.
Cancel culture has led to knee-jerk reactions that assume the worst. It's disturbing
When the boss is rotten, the whole place stinks.
Sadly, we live in an era where a single misstep is enough to call for rolling heads in the Court of Public Opinion.
@@shinigamimiroku3723 This is far from a "single misstep". The video didn't even mention the sexual assault mismanagement.
@@samkadel8185they most likely cant mention it for legal reasons
I see that a lot of other people have already said this, but I want to be more literal about it. It would be so nice to have a stamp or some kind of logo on a video that has been labs tested and approved, just to make the distinction that much more clear. Imagine you just have a flask in the corner of charts that you want to make clear this data is as correct as you can get it. This is the kinda transparency that I would like to see, and I think it would bring more legitimacy to you data.
Actually quite a clever* idea.
This is a company that took a small business' prototype; used it completely different from how it was intended/designed, then on the WAN show said it was an awful product that no one should buy, then SOLD the prototype in an auction instead of giving it back to the company which asked for it back. You think they can't slap a "certified tested" logo on a video and claim it was tested in a lab when it wasn't? How would you know if the sticker in the video was legit or just slapped on there? Serious ethical problems with the decision making from the top. How do you trust that logo claim?
Not sure I'd do that, if I was him. It would just turn in to another excuse for the internet lynch-mobs to get doubly self-righteously indignant every time a mistake gets through *despite* having this "labs tested and approved" logo on it. Cue the "guess your labs tested logo doesn't mean much" jabs. I think it's good enough that they just do their very best, which is all you can really ask of anyone.
@@WayneGretzky- well, they said that they will start beta testing their videos on the community, so the community is supposed to catch all the mistakes and help LTT fix them. It looks like a pretty sound system, and given how wealthy LTT is, I'm sure they will actually pay the community members that will spend their own time checking LTT videos so everyone wins
@@WayneGretzky- Man, get over it. Confess that you had no idea who that "small business" was a month ago, and that you will probably have no memory of them a month from now. I believe Linus when he says that them auctioning off the prototype was a result of miscommunication, because the alternative, that they just went out of their way to screw the other business, doesn't make much sense, and there's no good reason to assume it. And I'm given to understand that Linus has compensated them for it, and I wouldn't be surprised if they have been generously compensated for it by this point, by way of apology. It's over, and there's no reason to assume it's part of some larger nefarious pattern. People love to kick you when you're down, and I think recent events have proven that when it comes to Linus and company.
while the videos now don't feel quite the same as they used to sometimes you find a video here and there that brings you back 5 or 6 years ago man especially the pc build off with luke Its crazy to see how much these guys have grown in just a couple years
I have no idea what happened and watch these videos very occasionally but I'm a fan of taking action on issues and on quality over quantity
Basically they messed up in almost every way possible. Including a really tone deaf initial response video.
A combination of prioritizing quantity over quality in recent uploads and lying about other content creators in the field of tech news. While they were dealing with the fall out of that a former employee made accusations of sexual harassment.
@@Evnyofdeath who was the harasser?
I hope they can come back stronger. I stopped watching some of the video card reviews because the charts just make no sense. Less is more, and a picture is worth a thousand words. This is hard to do and takes lots of practice. What helps is having a concise story to tell with the data. For me, I don't want more data. I want meaningful information.
@@EvnyofdeathMore than that…
Remember that community accuracy checking can come in the form of collaborating with experts in those fields, too. Not everything has to be 100% internal
😂
You have seen the video, but you did not listen, did you?
Their speed of video production had previously prevented that. Hopefully they can show down and get more input.
They already reach out if they know they need outside expertise. they discussed this on the wan show prior to the shutdown and were already throwing this idea around because thoroughly fact checking everything contributed in a script is extremely resource intensive and no matter how hard you try something will slip through the cracks
Your employees should unionize since you treat them like shit. They need protection from you.
It would also be a very good idea for LTT to CLEARLY seperate their entertainment content from their labs content so we know what we're looking at
Make an LTT Labs channel for labs content
nah@@GrueTurtle
@GrueTurtle I'm not marketer, but I think different thumbnail branding could work, like how WAN Show is instantly recognizable from the other videos. Along with a different video format maybe?
It can be also included within the more fun content. It's just important to tell what's what. Just as Linus said: 6:09
They could tweak the LTT intro, kinda like what they did for the Tech Upgrade videos
loving the transparency and cannot wait to see your future content. you have been my favorite channel for so long. I have always been a huge fan of Quality over quantity, keep up the amazing work!
Love the double checking from labs. That is definitely going to help with all the errors that Short Circuit had!
bro he dont know you
@@Boogah2?
Guess the name of the channel fit, seeing as short-circuiting stuff usually ended with a lot of errors
I stopped part way to say this, but here's something that I'd like to see.
Have a "Labs Tested" seal or stamp that appears prominently near the start of labs checked videos, to make sure it is extremely clear which videos they've worked on. And make sure that those videos go through the whole works of extra checks etc before release, even more than the normal ones. Hopefully when there's enough trust earned, it will eventually mean something even when I'm half asleep like the Red Dot seal currently does.
Dittos to this. I think this is a terrific idea.
I hope you meant unlike the red dot (the red dot award is basically one big scam as it's horribly pay to win (my wife's work bought one))
Seconded. This sounds like a great idea! 👍
@@DavidMulderOne Haha 😂
Is like to add that I want to see this applied retroactively too. Give the labs team a chance to go through the back catalogue over the next several months/quarters to make sure past content still lives up to these new quality control standards. Or a splash screen saying why they would fail the checks by those same standards today

Watching midsize, family company slowly transitioning into small corporation is really interesting :) This really gives you an eye opener for all those corpo BS trainings, and why they are there :)
I feel the literal pin point exac same rn
People always mock those meetings.... Looks like they were necessary the whole time
You can learn a lot about a company from its "Corpo BS trainings." Someone on Rossman's JD video was commenting their experience at one company how all the trainings were: "Here's all the stuff that's illegal. Here's how not to get caught."
My former employer did the opposite: "Reputational risk and just plain ethical gray areas are just as important to avoid as legal risk. Don't be that guy."
I’ve been there. Start up to small organization. Manager 1on1 will help. Anonymous surveys will help management know if they are doing right by the employees. Hopefully management can take constructive criticism, if not then things will not go well.

It also makes the whole "whoa, we are really a huge operation now" more relatable. As with most UA-camrs, we as an audience only get to see what happens in front of the camera. What happens behind the scenes rarely comes to light if everything works out fine, but only when shit hits the fan.
Giving us more of the non-emergency behind the scenes stuff would also help garner viewers' understanding of what it takes to produce a video, where the "500 bucks you couldn't spend on fixing the Billet Labs review" are actually going.

Pause the video. There are annotations at the bottom to help understand the graphs. They aren't complicated, and there are videos in UA-cam that explain how the 1%/.1% percentile are measured and used in tests.
1% lows means basically, if they plotted all the fps counts they have gotten and ordered them from smallest to largest, they pick the first percentile of those. In other words, if they split their benchmark time into equal time frames, and end up with 100 of those, they will choose the one with the lowest FPS to show

As for On screen corrections simply puasing the video and having some one like Dan come on and just speak on the correction would be enough it's what sources like ign usually do and I feel like it brings attention to the correction and also for those who don't watch but listen like myself
I would actually enjoy that. Just a freeze frame with a vcr effect and Dan walks out saying "well um actually"
This is a really good idea.
I would also prefer this method because I mostly listen to videos
I mean, they're a production company, on-screen corrections are a time-saving measure, so a middle-finger with "the viewer is not as important" written on it. Next step up would be something like the "Corrections Dan" FlanCakes proposed. Next step up is correct graphics and ADR for sounds and the next step up from that would actually be filming a correct piece of video.
I agree, this would be ideal.
Quality over quantity. People will wait for a definitive review if done right and you can see it in how people relate to the gaming industry these days. People get fed up with half-baked crap.
And the workspace culture is absolute key. It's important to grab problems by the root asap!
Better to nip it in the bud than to end up with a reputation like IGN.
People typically do not wait for in depth reviews. Hardcore folks might, and there are more hardcore PC folks than other industries, but by and large, first to YT release gets the views.

Having new processes to ensure that you never have a repeat of the Billet Labs blunder is great. I would love to know that everything feasibly possible is being done to make Billet Labs whole. Last I heard, LTT had asked Billet to send them an invoice for whatever they valued the prototype at, they were going to pay them whatever that came out to be, and both companies would put this behind them and move on with their businesses.
While a lot of people want a re-test, personally that seems like a giant drama magnet. I doubt Billet wants to provide a second sample at this point, anything less than an absolutely golden review I expect would have people in an uproar even if concerns/criticisms are valid, and half the comments on a theoretical retest would probably be trolling and memes.

They have already addressed Madison's allegations as far as they legally can. But, as they've already covered, they've hired a 3rd party investigator, and won't be commenting on it externally or internally until after that concludes.
It'd be unprofessional to do so any sooner than that, it would jeopardize the integrity of the investigation, and would likely be violating a few laws.
Rushing that investigation can, and will, lead to compromising the integrity. These things take time.

Unlike the stuff she listed at the beginning, SA is an actual crime. A normal person who actually experienced SA and wanted to speak out would have made the SA the forefront of her grievances, and would have went to the cops without waiting for her former company to experience bad press.
She also made claims about being touched inappropriately but never described the kind of touch it was. @@Envinix and kill a startup in the process
they usually explain that it is not meant to be used in that way.@@blazbohinc4964
@@blazbohinc4964 That was not the same type of video as the comment you're replying to is referring to, you can be critical of a company and not be intentionally dense for the sake of hate.
5:55 they supposedly won't
I would love to have a visual indicator on performance charts that’s indicate optically by arrow, if lower or higher is better! It always costs me time to determine, what I have to look for. This really would be great! All the best, you will not loose me. 👍
They have to take Data Visualization / Data Storytelling courses.
@@oliberrrthey hired a guy for that specifically.
Wasn’t that already a thing?
Well I pause if I care that much. they could do for a slightly better vector font on the graphs and highlight deats. that ist true.
@@cameronleach5902i think they mostly had a "Higher/lower is better" hint at the Bottom of the chart, which works but really isn't ideal in for example a larger review
Been watching this dude for like 9 years. Big fan, glad to see you're making positive changes.
man you deserve better... the fact he only changed after getting huge backlash and him promoting merch in his apology video says everything
who knows if they took in the info though@@gyozanomics
what a great video!! watched you for a long time and continue to still!! i dont think i needed to know any of this, but that being said im sure glad i do now.. makes me have even more respect for you and interest in watcghing your videos!! thanks for everything LTT! ps wish my job had the perks and benefits you offer!!
Hearing Linus' voice shake when talking about the harassment other team members have experienced was an emotional one. UA-camrs often overplay their emotions for the camera, Linus among them. To see someone raw honest care so much about his team is quite a rare sight.
Keep it up linus and team. You may have made a stutter and a mistake, but the community (your boss as you say) are still behind you and the true ones are hear to stay, harassment free...❤
Not saying or even trying to imply that one wrong turn deserves another but there's a lot of allegations that the LTT fan base has rabidly attacked the "opposition", like the kid killing himself that everyone has been bringing up since all this drama started.
If there's any degree of truth regarding the fan base, I would certainly hope it widens one perspective to be on the side of that fence.
Ultimately it's wrong on both sides, and I will say that the extra spending mental wellness is a commendable move
@@sonicdoucheThat's absolutely what happenes everytime including this time. The poor women who came forward about her harassment has immediately been bombarded with hate
@@sonicdouche the suicide claim has been refuted according to a sticky post on reddit. Mindchop is alive and well.
That's real emotion right there. This wasn't acting. He was really upset about that, and you can see that he cares about his team.
Most withhold principle is to never harass and to wait. And those are too hard for many people.
These all sound like great improvements, looking forward to more accurate review videos in the future.
I have followed this channel for some time now.
I have learned so many things new It's my reference channel for technology and the channel that I recommend to my friends and co-workers.
Continue with the great work and it's good to know that the channel has trace plans to become even better never forgetting the people who work very hard for the success of the Linus Tech Tips.
Congrats to all of the members of Linus Tech Tips and sub-channels.
Really hope you come back strong
