  • Here's how to make your own custom glass-top engine coffee table using parts from a scrap car!
    A car engine makes an excellent centerpiece, TV stand or side table for a gear head. This engine table is made from a Toyota/Lexus 1MZ-FE engine from a Lexus ES300.
    The engine is removed from the vehicle, separated from the transmission and sub-frame and stripped down. All the parts are cleaned with carb cleaner and a toothbrush. The engine was then mocked up, with the pistons bolted to the cam bearing bolts at the head. The next step was disassembly and a thorough cleaning with engine degreaser and another toothbrush. The engine is then dried and cleaned once more with brake parts cleaner before painting.
    The paint applied is Rustoleum Chrome and Rose Gold spray paint. The timing gears, connecting rods, fuel rails, heads and camshafts were painted in rose gold (bronze) to give an accenting look. The piston heads, block, timing cover, heads, intake and oil pan were painted chrome. Small black accents for the thermostat housing and dip stick were painted black.
    The engine comes apart in six main pieces (two heads, block, upper oil pan and intake) to be easily moved. A glass top compliments the engine's bright-work so you can see down the pistons and inside the head.
    Here's all the materials you'll need:
    Chrome Paint:
    amzn.to/2K1wSG8 (US)
    amzn.to/34HoBAR (Canada)
    Rose Gold Paint:
    amzn.to/2V27q9G (US)

      I thought...that's the cleanest 3VZ block I've ever seen. Wait...I guess not. 1MZ has an aluminum block. Much nicer to look at than a rusty old piece of iron. An iron block would be RIDICULOUSLY heavy too.

      Cool project. About 2 years ago I went to Vegas and saw these piece's of art (the alien animals) all made with car parts and about 6 feet tall from the movie terminator, that was very cool, they use shafts, chains, springs, pretty much everything in an engine. I also wanted to saylike all your videos, very informative and funny, keep up the good work.

      I would have filled the bottom of the engine with enough concrete to make it more stable, sed thicker glass & added rubber furniture pads to the pistons. But then I have only made furniture out of high-end leather car seats, as a drunk driver broke my back, so I needed a desk chair with lumbar support...
      With that said, I have heard of outdoor tables being made from a dead car. Basically, they remove everything put the metal, steam clean it, and cube it in a car crusher. Note: Most car crushers are only used to flatten the cars for the shredder, as cubed cars get stuck in the shredder. However, many tend to have the ability to cube scrap cars for international transport...

Old school box not the modern size and the inside has reinforcements so nobody can get in it but it opens on a hidden hinge. Painted in black like most everything in the gothic house we have.

    Some people might think that “this looks like a good idea”, but believe me it is not. I own a vehicle repair shop. We did recycled and repurpose a few things and this is one of it. Repurposing car seats are ok, but engine coffee table is not recommended. We used a V6 engine for it. It looks good, but the problem comes when you want to move it around. It is heavy. My advice, only use a few components. Not use like in this video and exactly how we did it too, use the whole engine block.

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  4 роки тому

      This isn't meant to be moved around. It's meant to be assembled in it's place. That's why it comes apart in 6 main pieces easily.

  • @justglitchman
    @justglitchman 4 роки тому

    Next time you have some 1MZ just "laying around in the backyard", give it to someone in need😄
    But the table itself is badass, here I can't complain. No shiny lights or speakers, real engine internals are installed, and silver/bronze aesthetics is pretty awesome. And of course V-shaped cylinders' look is much cooler than of inline engine block.

    • @speedkar99
      @speedkar99  4 роки тому +1

      This 1mz has been put to better use than it's previous duty being neglected in the ES300.
      Glad you enjoyed my build, I need help thinking of color schemes for future builds.
